★★★★★ This is a full-service halal (authentic) Chinese restaurant serving Northern-style Chinese cuisine. The restaurant advertises itself as halal and the menu is labeled as such. Regrettably alcohol is permitted but not served (this place would have trouble staying afloat if it did not, I suspect). The tables and chairs are packed into a small dining area but this author has never had trouble getting a table for 2 or 4, despite showing up at peak dinner times (meaning 8pm by Asian time). Parking is available on the street, but given the neighborhood you'll want to leave the 1994 Toyota MR2 Turbo at home. This reviewer has been to this restaurant several times and it has become his favorite halal restaurant in NYC.
The cumin lamb ($16) was spicy, cumin-y and perfectly cooked -- definitely a highlight and highly recommended. The cilantro chicken is shredded chicken strips served with a salty seasoning and topped with cilantro ($10) -- this is an excellent dish and has been ordered on nearly every visit by this reviewer. The sauteed sliced chicken home style (yī lán jī dīng) ($13) is a mix of fried chicken and crispy fried pita-like chips -- we call these Chinese chicken nachos (but without the cheese) -- ordering them spicy earns them 5/5 stars (just separate out the star anise before eating). The chicken flat noodle ($8) was chunks of chicken with pan fried rice noodles, a solid 4/5 stars but unremarkable. Avoid the chicken mushroom hot pot ($14) as it's a bit too earthy. The shredded beef with peppers has small chunks of perfectly-cooked beef coated with a savory spicy sauce -- an outstanding dish earning 5/5 stars. The sliced beef with peppers (careful! don't confuse it with the prior dish) is slices of beef and napa cabbage served in a spicy gravy best eaten with white rice -- another 5/5 stars. With apologies for the lack of paragraphs, Zabihah does not acknowledge the return/enter key. Try breakfast sometime for a deep immersion into Chinese cuisine -- safely halal, feel free to try anything on the breakfast menu posted on the wall -- but beware that during breakfast English is a language spoken only far, far away.
The extensive menu deserves further exploration, but with so many favorites, this author finds it difficult to choose between the familiar and the unknown. Ignore the Yelp reviews, they are inaccurate and completely underrate this restaurant. Posted on January 8, 2017 |

★★★★☆ I tried almost every dish here. I really enjoy the sesame chicken. some of the items can be hit or miss. Also, it gets very hot in here even with the AC blowing on full. Posted on October 28, 2016 |

★★★☆☆ This restaurant serves a more authentic Chinese style of food, but the lack of more popular Americanized dishes may intimidate some. Their beef is better than their chicken Posted on March 27, 2016 |

★★★★★ Authentic Chinese food. Not the typical desi/fusion chinese, take out. Their menu has a great selection. I recommend taking-out rather than sitting and dining. Posted on July 12, 2014 |
