★★★★★ The food is amazing! My husband and I have been once before with a friend. This time we brought our family visiting from out of town. We were a group of 6 for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Excellent service. Started out with a couple appetizers, the double-double (like a version of channa poori) and fish fritters (like pakora). Both were fantastic. Mom loved the fritters so we even ordered a 2nd plate of them. For entrees, we got oxtail, goat curry, beef roti, and jerk chicken. I love fried sweet plantains! They came as sides for some entrees. They were a big hit and we ordered extra as well. The red beans and rice that comes as a side with the oxtail is also very good. Only the jerk chicken was moderately spicy, everything else was non-spicy, which was good for Mom. For the rest of us, there were 2 options for hot sauce. The special orangy hot sauce in the bottle is great, a nice kick and you can still feel your face after. There was also a green jalapeño hot sauce that's supposedly milder than the orange sauce. I didn't try it but others said it was good. My brother-in-law is gluten free and he could eat most of the food, just not double-double, fish fritters, or roti. The owner is so nice! Island people sure seem happy. This is my favorite halal restaurants in the LA area for being so unique and good, but also one of my favorite restaurants in general! Posted on May 25, 2014 |

★★★★★ Al salamu alikum
I live in Long Beach and I always look for nearby halal places to eat or shop and thanks to Zabiha .com and its smart phone app. I found Callaloo Caribbean Kitchen. so I decided to go there for dinner and try Halal Caribbean food for the first time !!
So why I'm writing this?
first/
Most of people who eat Halal are not familiar with the Caribbean food simply because its very hard for them to find Caribbean halal restaurants.
Second/
This place is new and have no reviews on this website so as a Muslim I feel responsible to write about my experience at this restaurant To help our Muslim Brothers and Sisters finding new halal places esp. the ones that introduce new food and culture to our expanding American Muslims community.
My review. . .
>Who is the owner ?
The Owner is Muslim and his name is Hamid (not sure if this is how he spells it though) he runs the place with his wife Jennifer and they were both very nice and welcoming and happily answered my questions about the halal status of their restaurant.
>Is it Halal ?
the owner Hamid told me that he buys all the meat from Altaybat market in Anaheim and this is where I buy my Halal meat too however they have no sign that says its Halal but the owner said that he is working on that.
>How was the food ?
The Food was really good and the portions were big, we ordered the Jerk Chicken and Goat Curry and were both delicious but next time I want to try their Roti and Oxtail Soup !
And Guys don't forget to try the coconut ice cream, it was so good !!
What to drink ?
They have Guayabana!!fresh juice (tropical fruit juice)it was the best.
they also serve water &soda !(Alhamdulillah this restaurant doesn't serve alcohol).
> How is the area and the place?
.The restaurant is located in a safe and quite area, about two miles from the beach,
.parking wasn't a problem at all.
.The place was really clean and nicely decorated with an extra room to host parties, groups and meetings.
>Was it expensive ?
For The quality of the food & service plus the size of portions, I think the prices are very reasonable, most of the main dishes are between $10 & $12 as far as I noticed, each served with rice plus another side (mine came with sweet fried banana slices !).
Zabiha team please correct the number 562-230-7530 not 562-230-5730( I called before going and it was a house).
Thanks for reading

★★★★☆ Was happy to see a different type of Halal food I hadn't tried before. I had the chicken roti. I was expecting to get it Indian style with roti and chicken separately. It came wrapped up like a big burrito and it was big. Chicken breast curry in chick peas and potatoe curry. It is big enough for 2 to share. It was different and I enjoyed it. Will be back later to try something different. Posted on September 8, 2013 |
