HALAL SUMMARY
This market is reported to carry one or more certified Halal products. Select locations within this chain have begun offering halal products, including the ever expanding certified Halal Saffron Roads brand. Some Saffron Road offerings at this location may include gourmet Halal entrees, dessert mini tarts, artisan broths, chickpea snacks, and simmer sauces. Availability varies from store to store.
★★★★★ -in general I have always liked whole foods. A major con is the prices but they have great quality food. In the recent controversy over pink slime, Whole foods was found to NOT sell helathy products containing the slime.
-The essential question is what is halal? they have grassfed beef from Baldwin farms, lamb and local chicken ( the whole frier chicken). ( the latter is on sale this friday May 4th 2012.only 2.99 per pound)
-Staff is very honest about certification status. I have checked that the beef from baldwin farms is halal per the website (http://www.baldwingrassfedbeef.com/shop/pc/home.asp)
-a an update I went to whole foods today: they had grade 5 chicken on sale which is not organic. the grade 4 chicken may be halal. id talk to the staff before I buy it. Posted on May 4, 2012
