★★★★☆ This is a halal Mediterranean restaurant serving a completely-halal menu with appetizers (hummos, baba ganouch, fattoush, tabouleh, etc.), sandwiches (shawarma, falafel, kuftah, shish kabab, etc.), entrees (chicken kabab, kufta kabab, shish kababs, lamb chops, etc.), and Yemeni specialties (salta, fahsah, galabah, haneez, roasted chicken, etc.). There is plenty of seating in the dining room, though it's unclear what you need to do to get seated in the dark room in the back with the booming music and mood lighting. Parking is available on the street, and you should bring your riciest ride to blend in with the ostentatious BMWs parked carelessly out front, which probably have something to do with the dark room in the back..
This reviewer has been to this restaurant once and sampled the hummus, falafel, and chicken shawarma. The hummus ($4) was creamy and well-balanced. The falafel ($4) was crisp with a tender interior and all the right flavors, definitely the best falafel in the Bronx. The chicken shawarma with rice ($12) was a bit bland, consistent with this reviewer's experience with this dish in general.
Based on reviews and this author's experience, this is probably the best Middle Eastern restaurant in the Bronx. 4/5 stars for quality and 4/5 stars for value. Posted on November 4, 2014 |
