★☆☆☆☆ Didn't ask how we'd like the steak, no gravy offered and got our entire order wrong for everyone at the table. Very young inexperienced staff who didn't apologise for the mistake. Wont be going back. Posted on August 30, 2011 |

★★☆☆☆ Service very slow, food cold and small portions, BUT steaks are very good if you get them hot. Posted on August 6, 2011 |

NR Anyone on here who rates their stakes has obviously no past experience on what a steak us.
We gave been to chilis in Dubai, who use prime quality cuts and serve with a plastic knife and fork and has no problem slicing through at all.
We went after hearing radio advert, to find the place empty.
Waitress took our order of one beef stake and a chicken one for my wife.
The waitress did not even ask how I well done I wanted it.
When it came, the chicken one was over cooked and dry. As for the beef. It came with cheap gravy already on it, which meant I couldn't taste the beef, which was also quite tough. When i told her I didn't want gravy, she replied with that's how we serve it. I didnt hold a grudge with the waitress as she was obviously inexperienced in steaks.
The accompaniment with the steak was a bit if lettuce and cheap oven chips.
The meal cost around £12 for beef, which was a Rip off for such a poor cut of beef and aldi chips and lettuce.
When I went to pay with debit card the waitress told me the machine wasn't working, so I had to walk over to the cash machine.
Really poor!! Will never go or recommend this place!
Remember people a steak is not just a cheap piece meat , it needs to be of quality rump or underside. These people are passing anything off as steak.
Avoid!!!! Posted on January 1, 2011 |

★☆☆☆☆ not Ismails, more like "is snails"
Booked a table for my birthday. Wanted to start at Iftari. Arrived on time 20 minutes before Iftari. after 10 minutes, they had not taken our order so we grabbed the manager to give our order. Told them our 3 young kids were fasting so could they make sure the order is dealt with promptly.
Chased up the waiters a couple of times as we were seeing food going out to people who arrived well after we arrived. 2 minutes, 2 minutes they kept telling us, no food.
30 minutes after iftari, no food. We got up and left. Appalling service. The owner came out and blamed the chef. I told him that they had managed to serve everyone else in the restaurant 2/3rds arrived after us. We were the only family with kids. He did offer to feed us for free. we ware not looking for a hand out, just good service. I asked him why we were ignored.
They ruined our evening.
So 40 minutes after ordering they managed to deliver nothing.
The place looks nice, it is a shambles with no organisation. waiters ignore you, management ineffectual. No care of customers or consideration for children.
Went to another restaurant and was served prompty with attentive waiters.
I would avoid this place, it is over priced and a cafe service. cannot comment on the food for obvious reasons. Posted on August 27, 2010 |

★★★★★ The first thing to note about this place is that it seems to be trying to cater for a particular niche: practicing muslims who are probably not 1st generation immigrants. i.e. those muslims who are fed up of eating curry every time they go out and who are not afraid to eat 'westernised' food.
If you do not fall into this niche group then don't go here: it's not a curry/balti house, and the food is not of asian origin. Stick to ladypool road or something, or better still, go round to your mum's house instead.
Right, so moving on: this place is hopefully the start of many many other places like it. They have cleary realised that there are younger muslims out there who want to eat different food in an islamic setting.
The decor is very modern and very nice. The toilets are very clean (this is always something I check when i go into a place: if the toilets are unhygenic, then you have to wonder what the kitchen is like).
The staff are fine and we found them to be rather friendly and attentive.
What I found odd was their reliance on blue tooth headsets for communicating with other staff who were probably no more than 25 feet away and could hear their voices just fine without the use of gadetry!
The prices are high; let's not beat around the bush - this isn't a cheap place. You are probably looking at no less than £15 per person - minimum. My family of 6 (4 children) ended up spending about £120 here.
Was it worth it? well I like to think it was.
The steaks were not the best that I have ever eaten (Had better in Dubai) but were probably better than most I've had in this country.
The starters were very good though, especially the chops and the wings that everyone else seems to have commented about too.
They gave us a free bottle of some 'islamic champagne' some kind of grape drink, which was nice.
There were Nasheeds playing, which some people may find inappropriate - we weren't concerned and it added to the modern islamic ambience and atmosphere.
Best of all, when it was Maghrib time, the staff advised all those who were visibly muslim (i.e. everyone!) that they would be doing a jamaat upstairs and we all went and prayed - staff and diners alike together upstairs.
Overall, a very very good experience, but it does cost you though. Definately worth a visit, but only if you are prepared for a non old-school type of eatery; be modern in your outlook and you will enjoy it thoroughly.
If only more places opened up like this, catering for those of us who want more than just a halal curry in a modern but islamic setting. Posted on August 16, 2010 |

★★☆☆☆ decor is nice and if you don't mind ordering ONLY starters you will be okay. The main dishes are terrible and the staff has no clue what is going on. Highly recommend the ribs and wings... everything else? blah... Posted on April 5, 2010 |

★☆☆☆☆ Went to Ismails grill after hearing advert on the radio. When I got there the place was empty which was quiet worrying. Ordered the lamb chops, buffalo wings as starters and T-bone steak as the main course. The T-bone came first it was very tough and chewy. the lamb chops and wings came after eating the main course. Staff seemed arrogant. Posted on March 29, 2010 |

★★☆☆☆ Service was slow, knives and forks were dirty. T-bone steak was dry and i didnt like english style gravy. Chicken wings were nice though. Very expensive. I wouldnt recommend. Posted on March 22, 2010 |

★★★★★ The T-bone steak was excellent, hope the next one is just as good. I would recommend it over the sirloin, but having said that I have only had 1 of each. One criticism is that vegetables and fried onions are meant to be part of the steak meal on the menu but don't seem to get served, instead there is salad on the plate and mainly lettuce at that ?? go figure. ★★★★☆ We sat on our table to find dirty table cloths and dirty cutlary, but good food, nice wings and t-bone. too many waiters were running around with MI5 hands free kits, which thought was OTT as the place wasn't that big. however the waiters were helpfull. Posted on January 25, 2010 |

★★★★★ Excellent steaks, buffulo wings. The best in birmingham for sure I've been to a good few, been there loads of time. Waiter with the red hat very friendly and helpful, ask for him much better than other staff, i don't think the boss is bothered much when it comes to slow service when it's busy just the waiters running around as he seems to just stand at the bar, proberly no experience customers service. But still the waiters do the best at making up for slow service.the milk shakes the best in here. Really nice restaurant decor. No alcohol at all which is good. Seems 100% halal even though waiters confirm this. I highly recommend this place if you like steaks. Posted on December 25, 2009 |
