★★★★☆ Birmingham severely lacks halal Chinese food outlets.
The only place of note has always been Lahore Karahi in Sparkhill but that place is arguably over-rated and definitely over-priced.
Hot Wok appears to be an existing Chinese take away that has been taken over by Muslim management and now serves halal Chinese food as well as halal Indian food under it's 'spice 3' alternate identity.
Indian take aways are a 'dime a dozen' in Birmingham so it's the Chinese menu at this establishment that most Muslims would focus on.
I have tried a variety of dishes from here and am generally quite pleased.
The prices are pretty good when you consider the quantity you receive - very generous portions.
The menu can be found here on the just-eat web site: http://www.just-eat.co.uk/restaurants-hotwok-b28/menu
We found the lamb and beef to be not-so-good; quite chewy on each of our three recent purchases to date.
However, the prawns are really really good and the chicken is fine.
The chow mein / noodles are quite authentic as is the egg fried rice and the soups.
I can't really fault this place other than the quality of the lamb and beef.
A halal Chinese takeaway was long overdue in Birmingham and I for one am very glad that this has opened so near me.
