★☆☆☆☆ This establishment is NO LONGER HALAL. I confirmed with the worker when I visited in June 2022. It may have been no longer halal way before that. It is under a new owner now so this Popeyes location needs to be taken off this website so others don’t waste their time going. Posted on June 20, 2022 |

★★★★★ Recently visited this place twice. Halal chicken is available on request so either pre-order or wait 15 minutes. Owners are Muslims and they are really nice people. Love the experience!!! Posted on August 17, 2017 |

★★★★★ While generations of Muslims have been spoiled by the universally halal Popeyes Chicken and Biscuits in Canada, in the States, they've been forced to flock to this lone outpost. The staff verified there is a limited halal menu and showed me a halal certification for their supplier (though they declined to let me take a picture of the certificate). There is plenty of fast-food booth seating inside, so you can bring small parties of 4-6 people or so. Plenty of parking is available in the parking lot, but you still probably want to leave the 2014 Cadillac CTS-V Manual Wagon at home. But you can still bring the trusty 2005 Mazda 3 2.3L 5 door.
This Popeye's offers a limited halal menu and you'll have to be very clear that you are asking for halal chicken. The staff assured me the halal chicken is fried separately from the nonhalal chicken. Because the chicken is cooked separately, it takes longer to make (about 20-30 minutes), so call ahead or be ready to wait. The only halal option is fried chicken (not the chicken tenders, etc.) but obviously that's why you came anyway. The halal chicken must be bundled in a "Meal Deal" which combine some number of pieces of fried chicken (8, 12, 16, 20, or 24) with a commensurate number of sides and biscuits. This author will recommend the Cajun fries and wonder aloud why anybody would get the green beans.
As of this writing:
8 pieces/1 large side/4 biscuits - $19
12 pieces/2 large sides/6 biscuits - $29
16 pieces/3 large sides/8 biscuits - $37
20 pieces/3 large sides/10 biscuits - $40
24 pieces/3 large sides/12 biscuits - $43
It is unclear why the number of sides plateaus at 3.
The chicken is crispy and oily and just about as good as chain fried chicken gets. Here's hoping more Popeyes go halal. And skip the green beans, you're eating fried chicken not tofu. Posted on February 3, 2017 |

★★★★★ I had never eaten popeyes chicken before coming here. Now, I have been here twice and loved it both times. You must pre-order by phone or just come in and wait about 15 minutes, but it is definitely worth it. The cost is the same but they have a limited selection of cuts. Mainly, no boneless items. ★★★★★ Call in advance and start the countdown for getting your hands on phenomenal fried chicken. Posted on February 23, 2012 |

★★★★★ I've been here countless times and am never disappointed. Call in advance (half an hour is fine), and get your fresh hot chicken when you're there. The halal chicken is made in a separate fryer by separate people.
They also have chicken tenders and chicken sandwiches if you call a few days in advance (best tenders I've had to date).
I will keep on going until I die of a heart attack! Posted on July 18, 2011 |

★★★☆☆ I want to support muslim owned businesses as much as I can, but this place seemed just a little shady to me. I asked the owner if the meat was halal and he said that all the chicken he orders is halal and he even showed the invoice. It looked legit so far. Then I asked him why my chicken was taking so long and he told me that the halal chicken takes longer to prepare. I said to him 'but you said that all the chicken you order is halal' and he replied with a no and told me that they order the halal and not halal chicken seperately, but use different fryers for them. He flipped his previous statement about all the chicken being halal around. I realized how easy it would be to get the orders mixed up, so I kept an eye on my food. The cook even went so far as to change his gloves when he handled my chicken and battered it in a different battering pit. The cook also used a different friar than waht he was using for the regular orders. The owner personally handed me my food. The chicken itself was very good and fairly priced. I visited again several times and the owner would always say all the chicken is halal at first then switch it up and say only some is halal. I didnt give it 4 stars for this reason and also that the restaurant itself is very dirty. Everytime i have been there the bathroom is a mess and the sitting area looks like it wasnt cleaned all day with dirty/sticky floors and tables. Posted on June 27, 2011 |

★★★★☆ A Halal food option for my fellow Muslims visiting DC. Only the chicken pieces are Halal (Sandwiches are not halal). You have to ask for them specifically & the owner told me they even have a seperate fryer for the Halal chicken. Only negative is that if there is another Muslim in line in front of you your wait time goes up because of them having just the one fryer. I specifically asked about tenders and sandwiches since I know how great Popeyes is at making those (try them if you're ever in the Toronto area) but the owner informed me that they only have chicken pieces at this location. ★★★☆☆ This location does not have ready made halal chicken available. Typically you must order in advance and it normally takes 10-20 minutes to make. The minimum order for halal chicken is 8 pieces; not 20 pieces as some have stated in their reviews here. This place also has Chicken breast fillet sandwiches, which are very yummy. It comes on a roll, with mayo, lettuce, tomato and pickles. We should all encourage the owner to carry halal chicken items all of the time. Posted on November 15, 2010 |

★★★★★ The chicken is very yummy! I'm glad they have halal chicken. Been there many times. We always call in our order so it's ready in 15-20 mins. Owner and his son are nice. I wish they had everything halal in their menu. Posted on November 15, 2010 |

★★★☆☆ ***Please note: This place does not have Zabihah meat ready to serve. You must call in and pre-order your meal and state you want Zabihah meat used, and your order must consist of at least 20 pieces. Initially I was really excited to see a Zabihah Popeyes, but disappointed to see it does nt have Zabihah meat ready for use. Posted on November 5, 2010 |

★★☆☆☆ I went to this Popeyes outlet last week with a print out of coupon deal. The owner refused to accept it even though the address of outlet was mentioned on the coupon. When I asked why he would not accept coupon, he rudely said if you can’t pay regular price then go some place else. Also this outlet is untidy as the floors are always very oily. Someone can easily fall and get injured. Posted on January 8, 2010 |

★★★☆☆ I was surprised by the good service I received when I called them and asked if there food was halal. I was transferred to someone named Ali, and he explanied to me that he would first check the freezer to see if they had halal chicken and then they would make me what I wanted cooked seperatly from the other meat and ready to be picked up in like 20 minutes. Ive already been back twice since then! Posted on July 17, 2009 |

★★★★☆ Okay here is the spin on Popeyes. The chicken is halal and very good. However, if you want halal chicken, you must order at least a minimum of 10 pieces and you must give them 15-20 minutes to prepare the food. Also, the owner of this place is kind of getting old, so he forgets the orders a lot. There have been numerous occassions where I ordered over the phone, and either some of the side orders were missing, or sometimes I would walk in and give him my name, and he would tell me he accidentally gave my order to someone else, and then I would have to wait another 20 minutes for my food. Because he is an older Muslim brother, I usually control my anger and just ignore it, but I must include this in my review. Posted on November 28, 2008 |

★★★★★ We ordered ahead of time so we got our food when we got there. I had about 7 pieces of chicken :). Very good chicken better then your typical Crown Fried or Kennedy Fried Chicken. Highly recommend it. Posted on July 7, 2008 |

★★★★☆ The chicken is very good, along with the sides, but.. the service is slow, but the owner is very honest individual. Posted on December 3, 2007 |

★★☆☆☆ If you like Popeye's Chicken then you will like this place. You have to wait for your chicken to be cooked, which takes like 10-15 minutes because they cook the halal chicken separately. Very tasty chicken. Friendly service and nice clean dining area. I am giving this place 2 stars because I found out they machine slaughter chickens which doesn't make it zabiha. ★☆☆☆☆ The description for this restaurant says 'Uses machine-slaughtered halal chicken.' Is that some kind of joke? Since when machine slaughtered animals are permissible? Muslim supposed to eat Zabiha meat not just halal meat. Chicken is halal animal whether it is machine slaughtered or hand slaughtered. So what's the difference between the chicken he is selling to Americans and the chicken he is cooking 'in back' for Muslims? Both of them are machine slaughtered then why he is calling one as halal and other as non-halal?
The chicken you buy from frozen section of super Wal-Mart is halal too since chicken is a halal animal. But this doesn't mean that Muslims can eat that. I am baffled by looking at all 5 star ratings for this restaurant by Muslim. This restaurant doesn't sell Zabiha chicken then why so many good ratings. Just because the owner claims that he cooks halal chicken separately you guys are giving him 5 stars rating even though it clearly says in the description that his chicken is not Zabiha and it is machine slaughtered? ★★★☆☆ I asked the person about their chicken if it is Halal. He said that it is Halal but Machine cut. He showed me the certificate which state that Allah's name is recited before the mechanical knife turned on. Keep in mind that according to Ulamas the machine cut is NOT HALAL. ★★★★★ Excellent food! owner is from pakistan named Mr. Ali. he cooked separately if you asked for halal chicken. so friendly and cheap if you compare it with other halal food in viriginia. please go visit this place and keep it running for muslims. Posted on April 2, 2006 |

★★★★★ The food was great. I had to wait a long time for the chicken but they gave me a free drink since it took so long. Next time I will call ahead of time so it can be ready when I come. I have been waiting for Popeyes and hopefully other american eateries to open a halal branch. As an american who is somewhat tied of the only halal restaurants being Indian, Pakistani, or other Asian fare, I am glad there is finnaly a fried chicken place. Now if we can get some decent pizza and BBQ places set up. Posted on October 17, 2005 |

★★★★★ Aslaamu Alaikum... good place.. great chicken.. good food.. owner and staff did inform me that they cook the halal chicken separatly to insure it doesnt mix with the non halal chicken.. Posted on August 22, 2005 |

★★★★★ I visited Popeyes again. The co-owner, (the lady there) is sooooo very friendly. She informed us that she is planning to start Chicken Fillet soon, insha Allah. She also confirmed that they use vegetable Oil for any Halal Chicken item, or else, they would use Beef Based Oil for their non-halal items.
Also if some of you didnt know, Mc Donalds uses Beef product in their French Fries, which makes it Haram for us to eat. Posted on January 20, 2005 |

★★☆☆☆ BE CAREFUL. THEY SAY IT IS "HALLAL", BUT NOT "ZABIHA". When I inquired about the difference, the man told me that it is Hallal chicken, but NOT Zabihah...which makes me wonder what he is talking about. INQUIRE CAREFULLY!!! Posted on December 9, 2004 |

★★★★★ The chicken is awesome, and the owner is honest. He told me straightforwardly that nothing but chicken and french fries are halal at the store, and they fry both of them seperately, inside the store. One time when I was there, the owner told me that they were having just leg nd thighs, which are a big no no for me, as the halal meat and I had to return without buying anything. But owner had no problem with that. For him losing a customer was far much better than offering him/her non-halal meat. Posted on November 19, 2004 |

★★★★★ I have been to Halal Popeyes and this place is amazing. Owner as well as staff are quite informed of Halal Chicken. I must agree with what Muslim brother said about the concern of informing and not letting Mr. Usman leave with non-zabihah chicken. Posted on August 29, 2004 |

★★★★★ Assalamu Alaykum,
Instead of putting a negative spin to this previous experience try to look at it a positive one. Unless you actually go to a farm, slaughter, cut, cook, and eat the meat right there you can never be positive on the authenticity of zabihah food. The owner could have easily let you drive away but the fact of the matter he was concerned enough to come out and inform you should be validating the establishment and his intentions for the Muslim community. ★☆☆☆☆ Assalamu Alaykum ,I had very bad experiance with so called halal Popeyes as I went there to get a box of chicken. They were busy and i had no problem waiting for 12 pc of chicken. As casher gave me chicken and i left store, went in my car and was ready to leave,he came to me and asked to give that box back to him as it was not halal product.Their frying person mixed up with regular chicken.I left with out chicken.Tell me when they are selling halal and haram at the same place how many time it can mix up and their gravy and beans have pork productin it. ★★★★★ Assalamu Alaykum
I was looking forward to in eating chicken for the first time over 20 years in America. Alhamdolillah may AST help the efforts of the brother who is providing for his community. My order took about 10 min but I suggest calling the order before you come to pick up. I was briefed on the owner's vadility already so when I inquired he immediately presented me with a document validating the zabiha chicken. Posted on August 6, 2004 |

★★★★★ The food is served Halal. Halal food is made specially to order, its 15 minutes to prepare it and the minimum order is 8 pieces. For Halah chicken, they use thier own Frying Basket as well as flour and seasoning. The chicken is very good. Posted on August 1, 2004 |
