★★★★★ If you've never been here, and are looking at reviews to see if you should go, the answer is this: You should definitely check this place out. It's excellent. The food will be some of the best you've ever had. This is one of my very favorite restaurants. Great food. Great value. I flip flop between whether I like this place better or Nomad, which was started by the same person. Nomad, in Long Beach, is slightly more expensive, but it's also generally slightly nicer decor and has slightly higher quality food. But, that higher quality arguably comes at the expense of taste; Mas' is slightly more oily, and I know that doesn't sound like a compliment, but some of its items are much tastier as a result. Ultimately, I can't really decide which of the two I prefer. But either way, you can't go wrong. Nomad and Mas are both absolutely excellent, and you should definitely try both. NR Awesome food and service is great. It’s great for families and groups as there portions are family size and good for sharing. Every thing we tried soup , chowmein , orange beef and fried rice were tasty. We came earlier in day and service was quick cant comment about busy evenings. It would be nice to have options for combo meal too. Like 1 serving of rice / noodles and meat of choice etc Posted on December 31, 2018 |

★☆☆☆☆ great restaurant, but unfortunately it seems they are having issues supplying Zabiha, hand slaughtered meat. Ma's used to be a staple for providing HAND SLAUGHTERED zabiha for years, however has unfortunately not been able to do so anymore. I hope, by the will of Allah, this changes. Posted on May 7, 2018 |

★☆☆☆☆ There service and there cleaned dishes are just like they where 20 years ago. California department of health should shut them down wish I could upload pictures to show Posted on November 20, 2017 |

★☆☆☆☆ Would not give me soup for 1 person, only had the full bowl, I was like what do u want me to do with the rest? She was like "you can only order from menu"...brought crispy at end of meal after she was asked twice!! And I was full from the rest of the food...when I asked for a knife she said "sorry" ...only brought me spoon n fork, didn't have a knife in the restaurant !!! Seriously!?!! Very callous employees....Chinese food is ok but nothing out of this world that would make me go again for this kind of pathetic service !! Posted on October 29, 2017 |

★★★☆☆ What can I possible say that has already not been said in the reviews of this Chinese restaurant like no other. The 'parathas' and 'sesame bread' alone are good enough to justify going to this restaurant. I have never been disappointed by the chain of Chinese restaurants that are run by the "Ma's" family in Southern California. I only wish that they would franchise their brand and open nationwide. This place is a must go to for me and my family and friends whenever we visit Orange county.
Here is my update ... made the mistake to go their during New Year's holiday weekend. The place was packed and there was a 45 minutes plus wait time. The staff was slammed and seemed unprepared to handle that many guests. There were 3 tables around us ... EVERY TABLE got their orders screwed up. We ordered something and got something else after a 30 minute plus wait. Our onion Parathas, after several reminders, were brought near the end of the meal when almost everyone was done eating.
When I told the waitress that we did not order a particular dish she told us to enjoy what we got because she could get us what we initially ordered but it would take another 30 minutes plus to be prepared. I did not make a big deal out of it but the party next to us was royally screwed and were visibly upset.
Also the food was bland!! I don't remember this place to serve bland food but I will let this be filed under ..."They were too busy that day, so the quality was compromised" file.
Hopefully the next visit is going to be as good as I remember this place to be. Posted on May 9, 2017 |

★★★★☆ My Taiwanese family and I eat here regularly (or get takeout) whenever we're in SoCal. The restaurant is definitely on the pricey end for us, but the food is delicious, authentically Chinese, and consistent. We tend to order the same dishes every time, but only because they've become our favorites! The restaurant itself is lovely, very nicely decorated, and it would be an appropriate place for special occasions or entertaining guests. We get takeout more frequently than eating in the restaurant, but (in response to other reviews) I cannot recall having any problems with customer service, wait time, or cleanliness. People's reviews are relative to their past experiences and expectations -- I found Mas' customer service, wait time, and cleanliness to be the same as other Chinese establishments my family frequents. ★★★★☆ Tasty food! Would recommend to call in ahead as wait times could be as long as 30 mins on weekends. Posted on January 18, 2016 |

★★★★☆ Went here on Eid weekend and although it was busy, they still gave us quick service. Had the home-made noodles, which was very good. A little disappointed in the Sweet & Sour Chicken. We had a beef dish too, but I forgot what it was called. It was good. Note: the portions are very huge. Each portion can probably feed 3 to 4 people, instead of the usual 2 people. Nicely decorated interior and plenty of seating inside with different areas, which helps to give it better ambience than typical Chinese restaurants which are all open typically. ★★★☆☆ Been there at least 10-12 times and food is always excellent and service is always horrible. So if you do not care much about how you are treated and just want excellent food, this is a place to go but if you like to be treated and served well, stay away.
Since I tend to give rating on basis of whole experience, 3 stars it is (5 Stars for food, 1 star for service) Posted on December 29, 2014 |

★★★★★ I love this place. Depending on how busy it is, your service experience will vary. Food is so good, nothing else matters. Try to go for the lunch special, entre will include egg roll, soup, and steamed rice. Posted on November 16, 2014 |

★☆☆☆☆ I used to be a huge fan of this establishment as halal Chinese food is hard to find and it it quite tasty. Having said that, my last visit (about 2 weeks ago) wasn't up to par. First off, the ladies restroom was disgusting! I carry Clorox wipes in my bag and had to give the toilet and sink a nice once over. I told one of the busboys and he just rolled his eyes. Second, it took forever for the waiter to come and take our order. When he finally did, he seemed to try to rush us. Lastly, I decided to look Mas' up on the OC Food Protection program because the bathroom was really dirty and this is what I found: http://foodinspections.ocgov.com/foodinspections/insp.aspx?record_id=PR0017193&agency=OCH BROTHERS AND SISTERS, THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING AND NO ONE SHOULD GIVE THEM ANYMORE BUSINESS!!!! If any of you have been there for their weekend dinner hours, you know that the place is packed. They have enough money to make sure the food is kept properly and that no rats are in the kitchen. If we can't trust them to keep a clean kitchen, how can we trust that the food is halal? UPDATE 6/25/14- They have made improvements and corrected health violations but the restrooms are still disgusting and the service is rude. I really wish OC would adopt the letter grading system. Of course that doesn't guarantee a clean establishment but it does, at least, give you the option of eating a place with A, B, C or D grade. Afterall, would any of be happy if our children were C or D students when we know that they are capable of getting As and Bs? Posted on June 26, 2014 |

★☆☆☆☆ WORST SERVICE EVER. We went there after reading reviews. Food (orange chicken and a lamb dish) was undercooked (read RAW lamb meat). Called the waitress and complained....to my surprise (and this is the first time I have EVER heard this in a restaurant), the waitress bluntly said, and I quote "we don't care if you like the food or not". REALLYY!!!!!! And it gets worse, she tabs me on the shoulder and states, "talk to my boss". Well, ok let's call the manager. The manager comes and after I told her about the waitress remarks, instead of being apologetic, she pretty much repeated the same (we don't care) behavior. Refused to make ANY attempt to fix the problem. I get it that eating out is always like shooting in the dark, but rest assured, I WILL NOT be recommending this place. Posted on May 31, 2014 |

★★★☆☆ Nice ambience .
Got a table right away and had fast service contrary to what I read in other reviews.
Don't follow the band wagon:p
Ordered thin sesame bread with green onions, it was huge for two of us , I wonder if they have half serving option , but to be honest it is over rated and over hyped .
To compliment bread, we ordered black pepper chicken with mushroom , it was okayish but not bad.
Also had three flavored fried rice, yummy yummy , the dish was good enough for two and had juicy meat and was served hot and tasty.
Overall it was good experience and I would love to go there again to try more of their stuff . Posted on May 28, 2014 |

★★★★☆ Really good food, we are sharing meals, and everything is so delicious. Not classy, but we love their food and recommend it. Posted on August 26, 2013 |

|
★★★★☆ All Chinese restaurants taste the same and this is no different. I like their lunch specials and whenever I am in the area, I try to get group of friends and order one-of-each different items. The average price for each item is roughly $7-$9 that includes egg roll, soup, white rice, and entree. Posted on August 22, 2013 |

|
|
★★★★☆ wait staff too surly. sesame bread, thick/thin is very good. beef/chicken dishes pretty good, parata thick tortillas kinda greasy but still good. overall, it's a good place to eat halal.----went there again recently, wife noticed that the carpet is heavily soiled and worn out. In spite of repeated food safety violations we keep coming back hoping that they have at least cleaned up the kitchen and where else can you get good chinese bread. One thing that put a damper on the atmosphere was a chinese staff member bad talking and giving the evil eye to a latino staff member. Even my son noticed this and it wasn't pleasant. The supervisor seemed nice enough but she didn't stop the waitress. Posted on April 22, 2013 |

★☆☆☆☆ This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to! Yesterday my family and friends had to pick between Lotus and Mas. I advised them to go to Lotus because of their amazing food, atmosphere, and customer service. However, another friend insisted that we go to Mas (he had not tried Lotus btw). So we ended up going to Mas, which turned out to be an AWEFUL AWEFUL experience! They have no sense of 'good' customer service: they did not ask us for drinks, we did not get water until we asked for it (when we were nearly finished eating!), no one ever stopped to ask if everything was okay if we needed anything else, when we asked for toothpicks the waitress said its in the front and asked us to go get it ourselves, and at the end the waitress rudely asked if we were leaving because she didn't want to pack the food find that we had left (why would we ask you to pack our food to go if we didn't want to take it, we paid for it, didnt we!). HORRIBLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Their food quality also has tremendously dropped! the parathas were served in the beginning and by the time we received our order, the parathas were so cold that it was inedible! I will NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone! I am glad we went there yesterday because now, my family and friends are convinced of how horrible their service really is! jeeeeeeez! =O Posted on February 25, 2013 |

★☆☆☆☆ Great Food but check your bill before you pay. Has happened twice and not returning anymore. They have charged me and many others I've talked to for dishes we didn't order. Also food quality fluctuates and have heard of family/friends getting food poisoning. Posted on February 12, 2013 |

★★★★☆ We were visiting from Michigan- we loved the food! Delicious, huge portions- little pricey but totally worth it. No issues with service. Agree with some of the reviews about filthy bathrooms- but the food will bring us back when we visit again inshallah Posted on January 19, 2013 |

★☆☆☆☆ I used to be a fan of this place. The owner used to have Jamilah Gardens in Irvine, which she then sold and opened MA'S. At Jamilah Gardens I did see mice going in and out of the wall near the front door. Now, it doesn't surprise me to see the same for this place. I guess Muslims like to close our eyes, look the other way, as soon as someone says "halal", we think our job is done. But look at this health report of the place:
http://foodinspections.ocgov.com/foodinspections/insp.aspx?record_id=PR0017193&agency=OCH
They have gotten shutdown a couple of times due to rodents, meaning RATS. I guess some of the Mickey and Minney friends have moved here from nearby Anaheim. But as other reviewers said, this place has made millions over the years, and is still packed. They can't hire someone for a lousy $50 per day to cleanup their bathrooms, kitchen and get rid of mice? Unbelievable! I found it sadly common that the so called "halal" places are often really filthy, dirty, compared to "non-halal" places. As Muslims we are supposed to eat halal, plus Tayyab food. God knows which meat is really halal. But if it's halal, it should also be tayyab, meaning good, healthy, clean, etc. No Muslims should go to such a place. Can we ever trust them? NR My family and I went here during our vacation and I was not impressed. The food was greasy and the waiters took forever to get our orders. The worse part however was after we were done eating the manager came to us and greeted us then told us to get our because she had other people waiting. We paid close to 400 dollars and that lady had the nerve to tell us to get out?How unislamic! I truly doubt the food was halal because I have had better Chinese food in plenty of other places. If it wasn't for the halal label I would have never eaten at this place Posted on December 22, 2012 |

★★★★☆ Best chinese ever. Full Halal menu.
To have a great time.. do the following.
if you can book in advance - gr8 else be prepared to wait for 20 mins... patrons move quickly so you will be accomodated. lines form during weekends
While waiting pick up the pink menu from the desk and decide what you want before hand.
The waiter will not offer any advice on whats good and whats not.
Place order > food arrives very very quickly.
huge portions > left over food is packed really well and handed over.
They dont have time so do not expect any frills. ITS THE BEST CHINESE HALAL JOINT IN CALIFORNIA.
Cons: Huge business, great customers, best prices, huge portions. NO PLACE TO PRAY, although i enjoy praying in the parking lot by moving my car a little bit. i do my part + some dawa :) Posted on October 10, 2012 |

★★★★★ Our family loved this place. The lunch special is incredibly reasonable. Where else can you get an entree, egg roll, soup, and rice for just $7, and all delicious. The service was extremely efficient and quality. When we entered and left we were greeted with salaams. Just a great experience all around. The next time we are in Orange County we will definitely be coming back. Posted on June 15, 2012 |

★★★★★ Most of the time when my family visits our family friends in the Los Angeles area, the family friends will often invite us to Mas. They assume that it's the first time we're eating at the restaurant, only to be told that we've been there at the invitation of others several times. This has happened at least three or four times already, and it's probably an indication that the locals in Los Angeles really like the restaurant.
Each time my family has visited, the food has been fresh and really tasty. I would certainly return.
I can especially recommend the Honey Shrimp Walnut dish. Posted on April 19, 2012 |

★☆☆☆☆ We drove an hour to get here. When we got in this lady literally yelled her lungs out saying their closed. We asked nicely if we can eat, but she gave us a big attitude. We found it very awkward that they close from 3-5pm. As we were there I heard a customer yelling that they have hair in their food. Most of all what was a bug turn of the smell in the restaurant and the atmosphere. Posted on December 30, 2011 |

★★★★★ Mas' is a GREAT restaurant. I have been here three different times and the food is second to none for halal Chinese restaurants, or any Chinese restaurant for that matter. We always order the orange chicken, which is excellent. Everything's good though, it's hard to go wrong. Although I do agree that the customer service could use some improvement, the food is so amazing, I couldn't give it less than 5 stars! Posted on August 16, 2011 |

★★★★★ This is the best chinese food i've had in my life, the service was phenomenal and the restaurant itself is very nice, and professionally run. I wish I could have had more time to try out the other things on the menu. You can tell that they cater to all people, not just muslims which is a sign that the food is excellent. ★★★★★ The food is amazing. The place is really nice. This is definitely a place that everyone has to go to when in the area. And the best thing about this place is that it is AUTHENTIC Chinese zabiha food. And most of you are probably thinking, so what, we can get that anywhere. Well, I havn't traveled all over North America, but I've been to Chicago and Toronto (which both have massive Muslim populations), and all the "zabiha chinese" places I've come across are not authentic, but are hakka style or desi-fied chinese. Which is good and all, and a cuisine in its own, but just isn't the same as real chinese food. So I would definitely recommend this place... their menu is huge (lots of options) and the food comes out really fast (for the amount thats made).
As great as this place is, I unfortunately have one issue. So, is it just me or do all the beef dishes seem very similar to each other? I think I've been here about 5 times, and each time try to order a different beef dish, but they are all about 90% same. I mean, its really good, but a variety would be nice. Well if you go, you'll see what I mean. Posted on January 21, 2011 |

★★★★☆ We love the fried rice and chow mien. The portion is huge and it's worth the money spent. We didn't have to wait that long for the food to be ready. Had our dinner here most of the time when were in Anaheim. Will definitely eat here again next time we're in town. Posted on December 25, 2010 |

★★★★☆ I've been here many times with my family and the food is good. You can wait 30-60 minutes for a table on the weekends as this place gets packed early. Service is something else though. The food was fantastic - huge portions, cheap and very tasty. The fact the place was full of muslim and chinese patrons was good testimony
We ordered hot and sour soup, crispy shredded chicken, pepper beef and the sesame bread - all were excellent Posted on August 3, 2010 |

★★★★☆ The food here is amazing. Its comes pretty fast and is reasonably priced. Plan to wait for parking and seating if you come for dinner on a weekend. Although the food was amazing, the water/drink service was kind slow. I didn't experience the service problems that others did. Honestly, coming from PA, I was surprised they were able to keep up with all the customers, but don't expect to be treated special for being a customer. Posted on April 13, 2010 |

★★★★★ One of the best decor I've ever seen in a halal restaurant, so definite bonus points. We had take out and though my friends assured me that the food we had wasn't as good as they've had, I thought it was AMAZING. I've been to a few halal chinese restaurants in NY, one in DC and I think this place tops them. quite possibly the best halal chinese restaurant in america. quite possibly. ★★★★★ We visited the place for the dinner about two weeks ago. The service was excellent, the food was very tasty and large in quantity. Kids love their soap and their "to go" service was also very professional. Highly recommended for any one visiting Anaheim. Posted on August 18, 2009 |

★★★★☆ Ma's has been around for many years, just under different names and locations. They started off in Downtown LA. The food is great! You will not be disappointed in the food. However, if you are looking for great service...forget it. Then again, they have to deal with pushy Indian/Pakistani customers. The atmosphere is nice, again, people let their kids run all over this place.
Best thing to do, order take out to avoid all these issues :) Posted on August 3, 2009 |

★★☆☆☆ The food at the restaurant is delicious - but the service was absolutely horrible. We got there, were seated, Jamilla took our order - no smiling, no courtesy - and then practically stormed away. We got our food quickly - but they forgot to bring our duck and a chicken dish, but they brought the bill with those two items on it. When we brought up the fact that we hadn't received those two dishes, the waiter said, oh we'll take it off your bill, instead of offering to bring us the food. Also we kept asking for water and they didn't bring it to us until the bill came! I'm not from the area but next time I'm down there I doubt I'd go back. Posted on January 6, 2009 |

★★★☆☆ Pros: Lunch specials are reasonably priced ($5-$8) and have big portion sizes. Also, a lot of variety in the lunch menu and the general menu. Hot and Sour Soup is very tasty. I agree with the other poster that food quality tends to be better on weekdays than weekends. Food arrives very quickly. Decor and Outlook of the restaurant is reasonably upscale.
Cons: Bad Customer Service. It starts all the way from the top management to the wait staff. The attitude can be desribed as Indifferent if you are lucky, and downright Rude if you are not. They seriously need to take classes in that department.
Conclusion: If you can tolerate rude service and pushy attitude, then the food, prices and variety are good. Posted on November 22, 2008 |

★★★★☆ Wow, nice place. we were visiting the LA area, ggot a nice quiet place to pray. the place had both muslims and non muslims and was extremly busy. Despite them being busy, the food came within minutes of ordering. Posted on November 14, 2008 |

★★★★★ My husband and I ate dinner here after a visit to Disney. Mashallah, the food here is superb! Try the lamb with Sa-cha sauce!! The dishes we ordered were perfect (non greasy and not too salty). Perfect food in a clean restaurant environment. I'm sure this place does really well. Keep it up!! Posted on November 3, 2008 |

★★★★★ This place is good of course, especially if you have a lot of people in your party. The food is greasy as expected, but great Chinese comfort food. It is remarkably consistent. I always like to order "off menu" and get the chicken with all white meat in anything I order, like Garlic Chicken with all white meat. That's good stuff. I would suggest that they get a pager system like Cheesecake factory, you never know how long you are going to wait, and the staff can never quote you an accurate time. Still an amazing restaurant. ★★★☆☆ The food looks good and smells good, but it is oily and salty. The worst thing about this place is that if you are unhappy with a dish, then returning it is very difficult. I told Jamillah the last time we were there that we will not be returning. We drove from Irvine weekly with our family, but after a few times of getting an order that we did not like and asking if they could get it right, they started giving us an attitude. I was shoked that for a business woman Jamillah would not make things right or refund us for the untouched food. They took our money and the plate was full on the table. I told her about it and she said well next time you come back. What about not charging us for the dish we never ate and then talking about next time. It was unethical and honestly some muslims do not conduct themselves as muslims should. You go to an american restarurent and if they get your order wrong they will fix it, no charge you for it when you send it back. It's unfortunate, since it's the only chinese halal place I konw of. ★★☆☆☆ Assalaamu 'Alaykum. Our last trip to Mas was for a party of 25 for a dinner following my brother's wedding. I am VERY disappointed with the service of the Mas staff based on this experience. We called ahead to make a reservation (showing up with a party of 25 and expecting a table would obviously be unwise) and Mas confirmed the reservation. When we got there, they seated us at 2 separate tables, effectively nullifying the point of making the reservation in the first place (providing them with adequate time to arrange for tables/seating for our entire group). The food came out fast, to their credit, and tasted good Alhamdulillah. As we were eating, the closing time of the restaurant was drawing near. The cleaning staff came out while people were still finishing up and began cleaning the table (using window cleaner spray). No fewer than three times did the worker say something to the effect of "we're waiting for you to leave so we can close." I understand a restaurant needs to close on time but there's a proper manner in which this could have been conveyed without literally shouting it in front of our guests. In any case, we left the restaurant after hearing the worker's gripes. Unfortunately, this will be the last time we visit Mas if this is the "respect" they have for their customers.
Alhamdulillah, we have been to Mas' several times and while the food has certainly been good every time, the service has generally been middle-of-the-road, often bordering on indifferent. There have been multiple times when items were forgotten completely from our orders. Still, Mas being one of the few legitimately halaal restaurants necessitates that we (and many others) continue dining there. Losing the business of 25 Muslims likely won't make a dent in Mas' business, but Insha Allah moving forward they will treat the brothers and sisters who dine at their restaurant with more respect than we were afforded. ★★★☆☆ Assalamu alaykum, Mashallah Mas is a respectable addition to the many great halal Chinese restaurants in the area when it come to good food. It was great but i would not say it is the best. While the food was up to par, the staff was not. To be honest, some of them were very rude and it seemed like they could not handle more than one table at a time. They could not grasp the idea that some people like to stay and chat after their dinner. They came to our table and started cleaning them in front our faces just to try to make us leave. All in all, the food had quality but the guest service did not. Posted on September 12, 2008 |

★★★★★ Mashallah, a really fine restaurant to eat with the family when visiting Disneyland. I was here on the Independence Day week after reading the reviews here at Zabihah.com. The portions are in adequate quantity and rates are very reasonable at such a location. We had the hot and sour soup with orange chicken with the three flavor spicy fried rice. We really liked the food and would love to eat at this restaurant again. Posted on July 16, 2008 |

★★★★★ Simply one of, if not THE, best zabihah restaurant ever. Portions are huge, food is extremely flavorful, and there's a big variety to choose from. ★★★★☆ My family and I have been here a couple times on the weekend nights and this place is packed. Even if you make a reservation you have to wait sometimes up to 1 hour before you are sitted at your table and another 30 minutes for your food. Not very good management. The receptionist should not take a reservation if they know they can not accommodate at the certain time requested. And the servers should come back at least once during the course of the meal to make sure everything is okay. I would suggest to sister Jamilla to hire some more workers during peak hours and also maybe open the party hall area (if available) to accommodate the busy weekend schedule. The food is good however. Posted on August 30, 2007 |

The onion bread (the thick one) is really good, so is the orange chicken and the vegi dumplings...well everything I tried was delicious.
