★★★★☆ Edit (4/29/19) My husband and I have returned here a few more times since my initial review, and their buffet has gotten significantly better Alhamdulillah.
A $6.99 lunch buffet on weekdays? Sign me up! This is a clean, quiet restaurant that's across the street from a masjid and on the same block as several other halal restaurants and markets. The buffet food was standard Desi buffet food, not the best I've ever had but you can't beat the price. The service was friendly and fast. I would come here again to order off the menu rather than get the buffet. Posted on April 29, 2019 |

★☆☆☆☆ Very disappointing lunch, one of the worst meals I have had in any of the Capital District's halal restaurants.
I went for the $6.99 lunch buffet and arrived quite early around 11:40. There were no other customers during our time there. The variety in dishes and choices of dishes was good - a chicken korma, another chicken dish (incorrectly labeled as a goat curry), chicken tikka masala, a chicken biryani, tandoori chicken, palak paneer and okra. There was also plain rice, salad of lettuce/tomato/cucumber, shredded cabbage, raita, chutney. Kheer was available for dessert. Hot buttered naan was delivered to the table shortly after we had made our plates. Unfortunately the food itself was very disappointing in quality. The naan was good as it was clearly made fresh, however I am not sure about the rest of the food and I strongly suspect it was leftovers from the Sunday dinner buffet. Although the variety of food was adequate, the amount of food in the buffet trays was surprisingly minimal. The chicken tikka tray had a total of 4 pieces of chicken - one leg, and 3 smaller portions of a single breast that had been divided into smaller pieces. I would have expected to at least see an entire chicken's worth of meat in there. The chicken korma and second chicken dish (the incorrectly labelled goat dish) were both warm. The biryani was lukewarm, well below 140 degrees F that food should be for safety. There were a total of 2 pieces of chicken in the entire tray of biryani. The chicken tikka masala was extremely thick and again, well below 140 degrees F. It was inordinately thick to the point that I would be shocked this wasn't a result of repeated reheating. My dining companion had the same problem with her food. I did not eat the palak paneer, but she did and it was clear that either butter or heavy cream had been added, but the emulsion had broken and the cream had risen to the top due to the dish cooling down to room temperature in the serving tray. I would not return here. It is very disheartening to see a halal restaurant serve food like this, especially since we are lacking in Bangladeshi cuisine in particular in the area. When I went to the pay the bill, I was not asked about how the food was, despite the fact that my plate was half full and neither my companion nor I had refilled our plates once. I hope they turn things around, but I am not planning on returning. Posted on January 28, 2019 |
