Arriving in Hungary isn't an easy prospect for any Muslim. Wondering where the Mosques and halal food places can be extremely limited, with little help from local Hungarians who wouldn't even realise that Muslims are in their country. However, a small community of Arabs living here since the communist era have established a good base especially near Keleti. Finding a halal restaurant often means trusting your instincts - dont be fooled by the Turkish Kebab houses seen on many high streets, as many local Mosques verify that they are not to be trusted. Best place to start of is the Mosques, with a variety of Muslims, both Hungarian and non-Hungarian born, who can welcome you and give you a head start for all your needs. Luckily there are a few halal meat shops for those who rather cook. Nevertheless Budapest is a beautiful city with lots to see, so you won't be disappointed.
