zabihah.com wins "Travel & Hospitality" award at the World Halal Forum in Kuala Lumpur - Today at the 2008 World Halal Forum in Kuala Lumpur, zabihah.com was proud to receive the Halal Journal's "Travel and Hospitality" award, which was personally presented to us by Malaysian Prime Minister YAB Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. zabihah.com is quickly growing into a comprehensive hub for halal resources, and this award is recognition of the global impact we are making on the halal marketplace. A special thank you to all those who nominated our site, as well as the wonderful people at the Halal Journal and the World Halal Forum. Keep watching zabihah.com as we unveil new features in the coming months to more effectively serve the entire halal food chain, from manufacturers to consumers. |
Halal Subways in the UK - Since July 2007, a revolution has been underway among Subway restaurants around the UK. The American submarine sandwich chain has allowed its franchisees to operate halal stores and dozens of them have done just that. Up to 200 restaurants are expected to go halal in 2008. The restaurants are fully halal - meaning all "ham" sandwiches are made of turkey. Breakfast menus include steak and eggs and turkey rashers. If you want to find all the halal Subways in the UK, you can do it the hard way (going to the Subway website and searching by postcode) or you can go to the new Subway chain page on zabihah.com. Listing all the halal restaurants and grocery stores within a chain is one of the new features we've quietly added to the site, with many more in the works. |
zabihah iPhone/iPod Touch app featured on apple.com - It's been under wraps for a while, but we can talk about it now - we've partnered with Apple to promote the zabihah iPhone/iPod Touch application on Apple's website. Apple approached us and let us know that our iPhone app is a great example of the kind of functionality they intended for the iPhone to have, and wanted to include it as one of 200 featured apps in their new web apps directory. Thanks to everyone who helped make this possible - especially you, the zabihah.com user! |
Make your iPhone halal! - If you're one of the lucky few who have managed to get an iPhone, you can now point your Safari browser to i.zabihah.com and look up zabihah.com listings on your new iPhone! Each listing includes a button to automatically call the restaurant, plus a link to the internal Google Maps client and driving directions! You can save phone numbers and locations in your personal bookmarks as well. Works in the US, Canada, the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Singapore. This is a beta release (ver 0.75) - it will be updated soon to allow you to leave reviews, as well as link to salatomatic.com mosque listings in the same area. Update: Nearly 100 people a day are using the iPhone zabihah app - thanks! Update 2: Now over 300 people a day are using the iPhone/iPod Touch to access zabihah.com! |
20,000 thanks from all of us at zabihah.com - Thank you for taking zabihah.com past the 20,000 review milestone. That's 20,000 reasons why the halal marketplace is growing in quality as well as quantity. 20,000 ways in which we are encouraging businesses that cater to the Muslim palate to provide the best possible food and service. And 20,000 testaments to the fact that halal eating is easier and more satisfying than it once was, nearly ten years ago when we started this site.
In the coming year, we have big plans for zabihah.com, all geared toward making it easier and more convenient for you to eat halal, and toward helping Muslim businesses reach the ever-growing base of halal foodies around the world. So for the 10,000 people that use zabihah.com every day: thanks for making zabihah.com the most trusted and widely-used source for finding halal in your neighborhood! |
Organizing and geocoding Singapore - We're in the process of organizing our Singapore listings into districts, as well as geocoding the entries so that they will show up on Google Maps. If there are readers familiar with Singapore who can let us know which restaurants are in the wrong subregion, please feel free to tell us about them. Update: Thanks to a few readers, Singapore is much more accurate now! |

| | ★★★ First of all there is a very strange contradiction on their website, by far this is the only restaurant who has given a detailed description of what is Halal and zabiha, on the front page(not in a tiny weeny corner to be ashamed of) and at the same time their website has a tab for Wine and liqour.
Anyways, the food has a slight smell of raw seafood, take whatever, the lunch special has a soup, a spring roll and the main dish - which is so very less in quantity that you are thinking to again and again poke your fork into your partners plate for any left over but no luck. Service is fast although the occupancy was approx 85% but they were quick in serving with only one server but food is ok in quality and quantity, in comparison the thai food place at Erin Mills near ISNA masjid across the Sheridan Mall is far better in quality and quantity -though there lunch special doesnt have a soup and a roll. |

| | ★★★★★ The Best Shawarma Sandwich I have ever had. My Husband had there Lamb Kebab plate and he said the meat melted in your mouth. I ordered the gyros for my son and it was huge and so very good. We also ordered the chicken wings with bbq sauce that is a must and there philly cheesesteaks was the tastiest. We live about 20 minutes away , but def will be there a few times a week aside from our regular shopping:) My Fav halal place yet . and the owners are just lovely. They catered whole lambs and sides for my sister in law baby shower and everyone that ate from it was in love with the place. IT's DEf a must try for sure you'll be hooked! and ohhh the place is so clean :) |

| | ★★★★★ I tried the seekh kabobs and chicken boti (boneless chicken) with naan. The prices were very reasonable. It was about $7 for each dish. This food was amazing and the best Pakistani food I have tried. My friend said it was better than Shalimar in the Bay area. Keep in mind I'm only vouching for the seekh kabobs and chicken boti. They were really juicy and tender. Not all the dishes were available when we went there. i.e. bihari kabobs and gulab jamuns were out. The ambiance is a little plane, so don't expect much. |

| | ★★★★ I ate there in May 2008 and I remember the steak sandwiches NOT being halal. The owner mentioned he was not able to find good halal meat for the philly cheesesteak. My husband and I encouraged him to make it halal, so his customer base would pick up. Have not been there since then, so not sure if he changed it. The calamari was great. |

| | ★★★★ We had a great experience here. The food was good, fresh, and tasty. The staff was very nice. Definitely try the drinks -- mint lemonade, mango juice (made on-site). We take out from here regularly. |

| | ★★★★★ I went to Village grill after a long time. Now its a new management and the food is excellent. The best thing was the service. The manager was ready to take our request and made dishes as per our request. The food was so good that i have gone both yesterday and today. |

| | ★★★ The food is mediocre at best. You are surely in for a hot bowl of oil for all orders. When I eat there I feel I am eating hot oil with rice. It is also very expensive for its quality. The place is great though, even for families. It can be crowded sometimes. So, if you are really not looking for good food, but a nice clean place with good service with just average desi good, then it is a good choice. If you want great food, then look somewhere else. |
