The food is Bosnian but is very western like sandwiches, Gyro, burgers etc. the ambience is still small from outside but clean and western from inside (they have a Bar and family seating area). The owner lady explained the she got halal meat through order and the MENU clearly marks dishes which are halal (helps to reassure their authenticity).
Although this is 20min drive from Downtown, Des Moines but (there are not many options of halal restaurants) I would highly recommend the food and service (very courteous).
★★★★★ The Saraj is under new management/ownership. Not everything is halal but the owner tell you what is. The gyros are halal and they are really big, and tasty. It's a small, clean friendly place. I'll be back there soon!
★★★★ I think this is only Halal restaurant in Des Moines, they get their meet from holyland in Minneapolis. Not everything is halal and owner is very upfront about it. Bosnian Gyro is very good, chicken strips and kabob are OK. One advice call before you go as it can be closed without schedule.
