Tangerine Asian Cuisine specializes in Hakka Chinese Food. The Hakka Chinese population in Toronto comprised of first or second generation of Chinese born in Calcutta, India. The word Hakka means "Guest". The Hakka Chinese are minority people who have emigrated from South China to places like India, Mauritius and Jamaica. In India, Calcutta was a primary location for Hakka Chinese to settle and further expand business opportunities such as dentistry, photography, leather tannery and Hakka chinese restaurant. Quite often our Indian customers have heard of "Bentinck Street" and leather tanneries in Tangra, now populated with scores of Hakka Chinese restaurants. Since the 1980's, most Hakka Chinese from India have settled in Toronto, Canada. The Chinese Indian flavour food is unique and different cooking style than the traditional or main stream Chinese food. The Hakka food is cooked with various Indian spices such as our famous Chicken Pakora or Chilli Chicken. Our head chef is originally from Bombay (Mumbai) who has mastered Hakka cooking over the years and opened Tangerine Asian Cuisine on July 17, 2003. At Tangerine, we strive to provide our customers with great service and good food. Keeping truly to our motto, "A Taste Above All the Rest."  Added on November 28, 2010 and last updated 2 years ago

It is definitely not halal. I asked the waiters many times, they were confused themselves. One of them said that it "might" be halal, I was a bit surprised of the response. Please, don't visit this restaurant. They are definitely fooling Muslims with their "halal" food.

Not Halal, No Certification displayed. I know some muslims don't like to investigate if place is really serving halal food or not. So to some as long as it say halal it does not matter to them however these hakka places are NOT serving halal meat, unless they have certification. I know Hakka Masala at Midland and Lawrence has HMA certification so since I have a choice I do not eat at these other places who don't care about my belief.

NR  Please make sure it's halal. I called and asked so many times and they keep telling me different places where they get meat from. Very suspicious.

★★★  Decent place with decent food. Food is not expensive and you get huge portions! For the amount of food you get, it's definitely worth the price. Try the chicken pakoras and hakka noodles which were the best items I had, they can make it mild or spicy. I'd stay away from the fried rice dish because it was dry and tasteless. I'd visit this place again. My real rating is 3.5 stars :)
