 | ★★★★★ Rooq's Steakhouse is closed for business. It was a fun ride while it lasted. I'd like to thank all the people who supported our restaurant and I'd like to apologize to all the people who didn't have the chance to experience it. |

 | ★★★ I've been wanting to go here for some time and finally went last night. I wanted to support the restaurant as I think it is a fantastic business idea and our community desprately needs more options. My overall review is the place definetely has need for improvement. The impression I first got was the establishment is failry new, i don't think they want to make a significant investment into the place. the decor is bland, the service was not worth the gruituity charge i received (we were a party of 11). Although we had no complaints of the steak received, the side dishes were not very well prepared. The mash potatoes were bland and cold, the sauteed onions were not caramilized, the mushroom medley was just button mushrooms (I was thinking it would be like the one I had at Palms). I was envying my son's french fries the whole time. I hope improvements are made as there was nothing that made me think of coming back. I also want to state that I speak with plenty of experience as I use to be a non-zabihah eater for many years, I've been to plenty of steakhouses in my hayday (Palms, Ruth Chris, Roots, Morton's just to name a few) and I was hoping to capture that experience once again but with a clearer conscience. hope they can one day rise to that level. |

I'm going tonite and InshAllah lets see what happens. |

 | ★ We went to Rooq's Steakhouse with friends. We were about 20 people. First of all if they cant handle 20 people, then when we called to make reservations they were supposed to tell us that they aren't capable. 2nd we went in and sat on those weird chairs waiting just for someone to come and take the order for an hour, another 2 hour and 15 minutes wait for the food to come. They mixed up all the orders, they didn't know which plates were for us or for the table behind us. The waiter that took the orders just left out of nowhere and didn't even care to give it to the other waiters. Disorganization! When the food finally came out it wasn't hot not even warm and the mash potatoes sucked. The bread was stale, they have no soda they had to go buy, their soda from the machine was all flat, they have no straws, their napkins smell omg, and omg their salad sucked it wasn't washed and it was basically just lettuce. It looked and tasted disgusting! We had to give the food back like 5 times because more than half of all the steak ordered were bloody on the inside when we specifically said well done. We're 4 different families so we gave the first waiter our separate listings but of course they lost it somewhere so they just put all the orders on one bill, how the hell does that make sense because some people didn't get expensive plates like others. I didn't eat my plate and about half of the others didn't eat either, so we just paid the money for having no good service whatsoever. And one of the waiters was so rude, this gets an F++ It was the worst, so not going there again. |

 | ★★★★ Most of the steaks are great, but the chicken dishes are a mixed bag. Sometimes good, other times not. Recently, have been more consistent (and good). |

 | ★★ It hurts me to give this place a bad review, because I truly beleive that for a Muslim owner to come up with an innovative concept like this, it takes a ton of heart, but I am giving this review with the hope that improvement can be made, and we Muslims continue to support the restaurant.
I drove down 4 hours because my wife and I had heard so much about this place. For work, I end up eating out ALL the time, at high end, non zabihah places, and do not eat red meat. Imagine how I felt when i saw a place advertising $45 dollar porterhouse steaks. I naturally assumed it would be a steakhouse at the quality of a top non zabihah steakhouse, but with zabihah meat and no alcohol.
Because they rightfully do not serve wine, it would be very hard to attract a non muslim audience, but at prices of $42 for the porterhouse, $27 for the fillet, and $3 for sides and drinks, there is a certain expectation that needs to be fulfilled, and unfortunately those were not met.
The ambiance is definitely not a $50 / plate quality. The chairs and tables could be from any desi fast food joint.
That would not have upset me, because I understand the spending constraints due to the fact that they cannot attract a non Muslim crowd, but their reputation needs to be built on the quality of the steak, and I got a fibrous filet that was tough, chewy, and overaged. As it was, they didn't have a porterhouse, so I ordered both the Filet and the NY strip. My wife had the ribeye, and she definitely seemed to enjoy her meal. I had tasted the ribeye, and it was definitely a good steak.
My friend who was with me had gotten a perfectly tender filet, and was very satisfied with it, but again, at $50 / plate, you cannot serve a bad steak, especially when your reputation must be built on that.
This is still a very innovative concept. I loved the entreprenuerial risk. I would still recommend people to it, as I am willing to bet my sirloin was the exception and not the rule, based on what I read in the other reviews.
I would ask the owner to continue to be innovative to try and attract a non muslim crowd somehow, so that he may continue to make this business grow. |

 | ★ 3 hours of my life gone. I was just there yesterday and again the place disappointed me. This was our third time coming. We had made reservations for 8:00 and were not seated until 8:45. There were people who waited even longer to be seated. There were lots of groups of people who just left because of the wait. Once seated it took a while for someone to take our order. Thank god we ordered appetizers, otherwise we would have starred at eachother hungry for 2 hours. We did not get our food until 2 hours later. Unbelievable. The waiter kept telling us 15 min. The portions of the food were smaller than the last time we were there for the Mix grill. Anyway i would not recommend this place unless you have the time to waste 3 hours. The waiter also confirmed that this is how it is all the time. They have only 2 cooks. |

 | ★★★★★ Had the food and was amazed at the quality of meat that was given for the price. Decor could use some work but I didn't notice it when I started having my food. Got packed quick due to the iftar crowd. A little wait for the food but i guess if the chefs get flooded with close to 65 orders at once then delays are expected. All in all, a very well experience. can't wait to try the cowboy. |

 | ★★★★★ When I drove into this complex and walked into the place, I thought to myself..."I'm not gong to be happy". But when I got my food and cut into my steak. I was really surprised. The royal medallion was as tender as some firm cheese cakes i've had. My wife opted for the chicken parm and it too was really flavorful....and HUGE. So huge that i ate it for lunch the next day. i asked the management about some of the negative feedback on this site and they said that it only help them get better. Awesome. They'll see me back. |

 | ★★ BEWARE!!!!! I called in an order for a couple of delmonicos and was told that it would take 40-50 minutes. By the time I got there 1 hour had passed. When I asked for my order, they said it would be right out. 15 minutes later, I asked the waitress the same question and again she gave me the same response. Another 15 minutes later I asked her the same question and was again given the same response. What really annoyed me was the fact that I called in my order so I wouldn't have to wait and the restaurant wasn't even half full. All in all, it took 1 hour and 50 minutes from the time I called for me to get my steaks. The service was terrible, the steaks were chewy and undercooked, and they screwed up my sides. I will not be going back to this place |

 | ★★★★★ I have been to many steak houses and have eaten fish. It's great to finally experience the steak itself. The outside of this steak house is beyond impressive.
The inside is disappointing relative to the outside. The steaks are huge, the Delmonico which I ordered is a lot of food. The Juggernaut is a artery clogging monster.
The steak itself is very very tender. They house steak sauce is pretty good. But they also have A1 for those that want to use A1.
They have chicken and a lot of Italian dishes that are also Zabihah Halal. Next time I go there I want to try those as well as they looked excellent. |

 | ★★★ Rooqs promised to change the landscape of NJ Halal Restaurants. Is it still living up to it’s standard? We certainly hope it will.
1. Decent Décor – now tables are sticky, dress code has dropped to athletic shorts. No longer a place for couples to enjoy.
2. Amazing Steaks?!?! Seems like Chef may have changed. Steaks do not come out as ordered, meat quality is definitely poor. Under seasoned and meats smell (noticed in July, 2010). Have got take out where meat was pink in center when I asked for well done (Aug 2010). Oh and the Burger, what happened there?
3. Pricing is still odd. Get told sides come with steaks, but got charged for it, even though I declined the side, was told repeatedly that it comes with steak, then got charged for it.
4. Salad & Bread – generally works as a plus, not at Rooqs! Found on two occasions salad was unwashed (nothing but lettuce). And bread can definitely be improved on (skimping on the small stuff is in poor taste).
5. Owner – no doubt one of the nicest around.
We urge the management to look into this. Hope this doesn’t become a “fad” restaurant that fades away. All in All, not the Rooqs we came to love. Please bring it back!!

 | ★★★★ We started going to this place when it first opened.. LOVED the food. The food was just amazing. But I dont know if they had a change in cooks or what but I've been there 2 times in July and the food was totally off. Not seasoned enough and the steaks taste like rubber literally. Not the ROOQ's we used to love. |

 | ★★★★★ My husband and I went here last night. Our waiter was Bilal, he is the owner's brother, if I heard correctly. This brother was amazing, as well as the rest of their waitstaff. Actually, this was probably the best service we've EVER had at ANY restaurant, even the pricy non-halal American places. My husband ordered the Juggernaut with french fries and I got the Delmonico with sauteed mushrooms. The juggernaut was HUGE! we actually had a bet that there was no way he could finish it, but he actually did. The Delmonico was amazing as well, it wasn't as big as the Juggernaut, but I couldn't finish it. I told my husband that next time we'd just share, and he flat out refused to share his steak with me :-P
I really wanted to try the gelato after reading the comments on here, but unfortunately they dont have the gelato anymore. We got a tartufo, which is chocolate and vanilla ice cream inside a chocolate shell. they cut it into 4's, and put whipped cream and drizzle chocolate on it. i've had better deserts, but it was still very good. A bit too rich for my taste, but I'm not too fond of too much sweetness.
I don't normally trust non-desi food reviews from zabihah only eaters, because many times some of them haven't had REAL american food, w/o the Shan Masala. I was actually a non-zabihah eater before, and i can say that this place beats almost all, if not all, the steakhouses i'd been to.
the website does need to be updated, because it says that the steak comes with a side salad and choice of one side, but we actually had to pay extra for the sides.
This is so not your average halal restaurant. It was a very clean environment and the atmosphere was perfect. We've decided to go here once a month (or whenever we have another date night w/o the kids) and splurge on ourselves! |

 | ★★★★★ This place is amazing. If you're looking for a night of high class, Steak dining, even as a non-Muslim, this place is incredible! I have nothing to say about it except that their steaks are brilliant! Anything on their grill, is so tasty, best steaks I've ever had! Even their rice is delicious! The only thing I recommend is not ordering their cheese steak, because it doesn't taste that great, as one of the guests in my party said. But I really loved this place. I've been looking for a restaurant to make my favorite hot spot and this is it. I usually don't even like eating at restaurants but I'm definitely going back here. It's a little pricy, but it's completely worth it. Their portions are huge too so you can easily split entrees. |

 | ★★★★★ Great Restaurant
I ordered the Delmonico Steak which is a 20oz Boneless rib eye with a side of Sauteed Mushrooms. The steak was absolutely fantastic. Other members of my group ordered the Filet Mignon, and the Jauggernaut (32oz Porterhouse). Everyone walked away extremely satisfied with their meals.
I will agree with a previous comment that the steaksause is overpowering.
The service was slow and it was mainly because we went on a Sunday night when they were about to close and a family of five walked in including our party which was a party of 14 and there were only two waiters to take care of everything. The waiter however was extremely friendly and gave a breakdown of everything and what he recommends.
I would also hope they get an Air Conditioning unit in there, cuz it got fairly hot in there.
This place is great for a family / friends to get together and have a great meal.
Alhamdulillah. |

 | ★★★★★ I was at Rooq's a few days ago and have all but good things to say about this steakhouse. The staff is very friendly and they really take care of your needs. I ordered the New York Strip and was quite satisfied. However, the steak sauce was a turn off for me because it was too overpowering. Overall, an awesome place to go w/ friends and family and best of all its HALAL!! |

 | ★★★★★ That was the most succulent stake I've had in a few years. I had Filet Mignon. It was so tender, I almost didn't have to chew it, it was literally melting in my mouth. And better yet no guilt feelings, no remorse, cause it's halal. It also did something special to my husband (whatever they put on his stake :) |

 | ★★★★★ Man, this place is amazing. It's a real steak house, no desi-fied food. The steak is delicious and well-made. The sides are also great. They have a good number of options available, a friend of mine took down the 32-ounce and was quiet satisfied afterwards. Rooq's also has great service. I'd recommend this place without reservation and will stop by whenever I'm in central Jersey. |

 | ★★★★★ I'm from NY and have been to the area's best steakhouses before I started eating zabihah and this place is right up there with the best of them. My wife and I have only been once but are trying to make it out a couple times a month. I had the boneless ribeye which was cooked to perfection. This place is the real thing, thank you for finally opening up a legit halal steakhouse! |

 | ★★★★★ This place is awesome. I never post but I felt so passionate after eating at this place. I've been longing for a halal steakhouse for some time and my stomach's prayers have been answered. The steaks here are on par and above many other non-halal steakhouses. Prices are very, very reasonable and service is top-notch. My wife, young daughter, and I went for dinner tonight and left beyond satisfied. We even accidentally spilled drinks two different times and the staff (who should have been annoyed) remained calm about it and cleaned it up ASAP. I got the 20 oz Delmonico and it melts like butter. My wife's chicken pasta dish was delish as well. Don't forget dessert; we got a two berry gelato and this awesome thing where the chocolate/vanilla gelato was inside a chocolate shell.
Please support this restaurant because we need to keep halal restaurants like this in business.....and don't forget to tip the staff.
I hope these guys are around for a long time because I will be a repeat customer. |

 | ★★★★★ Rooq's is an amazing place, from the owner to their bus boy, everyone is excellent and friendly. The place is very clean and their food portions are ridiculously large. Outside of the food though, the service is so much more than expected, my wife and I had Javi as our waiter and this kid is amazing, we never had to ask for a refill, he was on top of everything and just makes you smile all night. He is very funny and attentive, which is something we appreciate especially when we have a long drive from New York. His knowledge on steaks and their preparation is mind blowing. To anyone interested in attending Rooq's, I would recommend Javi as your server!!

 | ★★★★★ Halal Steak? You can't find it anywhere else... I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to have a steak served to their liking... I went with a couple of my buddies and enjoyed it... I had the Royal Medallion cooked medium rare with mushrooms and it was to die for... Some of my other friends had the FRIED CALAMARI, COCONUT SHIRMP, JUGGERNAUT STEAK, and THE MEDITERRANEAN LAMB CHOPS... The portions were simply MIND BLOWING... The service is spectacular and the environment is very clean... Soft music playing in the background with low light really sets the mood for couples who choose to come for a nice "CANDLE LIGHT DINNER." They also have a nice selection of Italian dishes... Homemade pasta too... You can't find authentic Italian dishes anywhere else... Their Two Berry and Pistacio Gelato is to die for... Overall, excellent service, clean family environment, and great food... This is the place to go!!!!!! |

 | ★★★★★ Love it! Loved the place when it was in South Plainfield, and their steaks are just as delicious in the new location. Can't choose your own steak size anymore, but understandable in the interest of the business. We went during their grand opening weekend, and the place was packed with all kinds of people (a good sign). The service was still great, with everything arriving at a sufficient pace, and the staff (including the owner) coming by every now and then to check on us. The decor is tasteful, the food is high quality, and the two-berry gelato was yummy :) My new favorite place now that they're so much closer to us. Will be coming back often - the family that runs the restaurant is very genuine and sincere mashaAllah and we wish them well. |

 | ★★★★ We went to opening day, and we were very pleased with the setting. The restaurant was very clean and elegant, and the food was good. However the service was not up to par. The food took a long time to come, which was understandable since it was opening day, but the waiter never came to check if we were okay, or to let us know that 'food as coming'. We would recommend it to our friends, and hope to come again. |
