The food was decent, but being charged an extra .48cents for extra condiments (yogurt) wasn't cool after I spent 20 bucks on dinner for myself. Will not return

I decided to visit the newly relocated Kabob Grille near West Broad Street. I've dined at the previous Midlothian location numerous times before and it was decent enough for me to come back every few months. I typically got the Butter Chicken, so I decided to order that when I went tonight. It wasn't good at all. The chicken was undercooked and the sauce/gravy did not taste very good either. Also, their service was very subpar. They did not even have straws, the waiter wasn't well informed on dishes and pricing, nor did he do a good job at making sure we were doing okay. Also, requests for checks, etc. took unnecessarily long. The waiter may have been newly employed, so I wont hold that to them as much. However if that is the case, they should put a little more effort into training. I decided to try some of their paan after the meal. Bad idea. It was very dry and poorly put together. I came with a party of four, who often eat out together and have tried everything in Richmond. We're a younger crowd and are pretty critical. All of us decided it wouldn't be worth coming back. On the bright side, the mango lassi was decent. Best of luck.

NR  Good food but over price so I will not going back 2 this place?????
Kabab Grille responds: Terribly sorry for the pricing, we don't control that, the market does. Also, we were actually closed for a month when you submitted your review. I hope you come back and try us again!

Terrible Gyro!. Maybe 1 oz of meat, and flavorless tzaziki, and at $9 it was a solid rip-off. I called the owner and told him it was the worst Gyro I've ever had, and was $2-$3 more than anywhere else that serves a really good Gyro. Will not go back
Kabab Grille responds: Very sorry for the lack of meat in the gyro, we usually measure about 6-8oz for the meat and I apologize that it seemed like a small portion. Please try us again and maybe one of the kababs this time!

★★★  Some of our local friends took us out for a Buffet lunch at Kabab Grille. The place is conveniently located in a shopping part of the town of Midlothian. Restaurant is clean and well-kept. Owners were onsite and made sure our needs were met. The buffet menu included two types of rice, 3 types of chicken (tikka, in gravey etc)., eggplant, spinach, cholay, daal, qeema and mutton Korma. Naan were a little thin but fresh and tasty presented straight out of the oven. Limited sweet items but the carrot-kheer was good. Overall, I'd rate the food average, a little more fancy than what one can prepare at home. No major negatives as such. Clean restroom too. I look forward to coming here again.

★★★★  We tried the Seekh kabab and the chicken karahi. Food is tasty and they can make it as spicy as you want. There is a Halal sign in the window, on the menu and the owner has assured us that everything is halal. A very good option for the Richmond area. I will definitely return next time I come out this way.

★★★★★  Food is excellent and service is good. I know the decor is not good but not bad either. Owners are friendly and have consistent taste. Also they DO NOT CHARGE Gratuity that killed me at other restaurant in West broad Street near Hungry spring road.

★★★★★  Very nice restaurant. I went here a couple of days ago with my family and was glad to see that it was infact a family restaurant. Not many restaurant these days are family owned. The food was very enjoyable and even though it was packed, we still got our food in a reasonable amount of time. When we were leaving the owner, I am presuming, waved and said goodbye. All around I am very happy with Kabab Grille. Keep up the good work!

★★★★★  Was there last weekend for the lunch buffet. The food was excellent. Chicken biryani and chicken korma were outstanding, tasted like wedding food back home. The chicken tikka and beef were also good, naan was fresh and soft. Salad was also fresh. Reasonably priced buffet, would recommend this to anyone in town.

They have to treat everybody equal.

★★★★★  I read the review for Kabab Grille in the Richmond Times Dispatch and thought i would try it. When I walked into the restaurant I was greeted by the owner who kindly said hello and sat me down to my seat. I decided to try their Chicken Karahi and a Pakola. The Chicken Karahi was amazing it was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. And the Pakola was exactly how I read it in the newspaper, word for word. " tingled with rose and floral notes". Even though the wait was long, (considering there was a full house) the quality did not lack. The price was considerably cheap for the quality of the food and amount that was on my plate. I am defiantly going to come again with the rest of my family to try their Saturday lunch or dinner buffet.

★★★★  Its no Ravi of DC or Shalimar of San Fran, but its as good as it gets for a small city like Richmond. This is the only restaurant in Richmond that serves authentic pakistani food. I ate their over a dozen times in 2008 and I was never disappointed. I have no doubts about its zabihah-halal auhtenticity having converesed with the owner several times.

★★★★★  Kabab Grille is amazing place. This Pakistani restaurant has simple but nice decor. This is a great restaurant by all standards. I have been there 4 or 5 times with my gori wife and was never disappointed. Last Sunday I tried Goat Brain karahi. it was exceptionally good (I am from Bhati gate lahore). My wife and her brother tried chicken tandoori and Lamb seekh kabab and they both loved it. At last I have found the best and very clean Pakistani restaurant in this area... period. If you are looking for tasty halal food at reasonable price, give them try...

★★★  Al salamu alaikum ala mun itaba'a al-huda (peaced upon all those who follow the guidance). I've eaten at this restaurant a few times, but not any more because of a great disappointment! I must preface this however by saying that it wasn't the food, the food itself is avg to good and the eldest son is really really helpful. The place is clean and the b-rooms are tidy as well. However, one evening my wife and 2 kids, 4 and 2, were starving after a day of grocery shopping, etc. But as night was falling, I realized that Maghrib prayer was ending and driving to the masjid would have been too long. I actually begged the owner to allow me to pray in some obscure corner, out of eye-shot of anyone else in the restaurant, but the father denied me from doing so. I ended up praying on the sidewalk right outside the restaurant, giving the kids granola bars and driving home 30 minutes and eating there instead.

I am not saying this as a criticism, but as an advice to all of our Muslim brother's and sisters, it is Allah who gives honor and debasement and whereas I agree that a restaurant is NOT a place for prayers, when there is someone in desparate need, I feel that accomodations should be made for them because that is customer service (even if he gave me a prayer rug and lead me outside, I would have been satisfied!!!). For me, I don't care about NBC12's happiness, if it means I may be upsetting The Creator. Honestly, after this incident, I started getting doubts in my mind about the halal authenticity of this joint. Anyhting is doable, and that's my sincere advice to my brothers at Kebab Grille.

★★★★★  Amazing! I have been there a lot of times now and I have never been disappointed! I recommend the Butter Chicken and Bone-in Chicken. The restrooms in my opinion are the best and cleanest of all Pakistani restaurants I've been to. The entire experience is worth the time and money!

★★★★★  I recently traveled from North Carolina to Washington DC and stopped here at this restaurant after reading some reviews on this website. I must say, I was very happy with the whole experience. The staff (who are the owners as well) was very friendly and helpful. I stopped in during the lunch hour as I was going to DC and saw how clean the restaurant itself is and how tasty the food is. The naan, the pakoras, the palak paneer, and the eggplant were very good, as was the chicken curry and chicken boneless, all of which was on the buffet.

On my way back to NC I just had to try some of the menu dishes, so I went back and had the Tandoori chicken (which is the best I have had in all my travels) and the Mango Lassi. The owners were again very friendly and accommodating, and I even took some seekh kababs and boneless chicken home with me. The seekh kababs were also very delicious.

★★★★★  Definitely the best kabab place in the Richmond area. Extremely clean, awesome service, friendly people. Did you know that they also offer mango lassis with Splenda? Where else will you find something like this? If you want it extremely spicy, you can ask and they will make it spicy. A+

★★★★★  Last week I visited Kabab Grille and was very impressed with their service, the quality of the food and the reasonable prices. I was also impressed with the freshness and quantity of their All-You-Can-Eat lunch buffet only $6.99. Truly delicious authentic Pakistani food served in a very clean and friendly environment. Truly superb Pakistani cuisine and in my opinion tops in the Virginia area!!!!

★★★★★  This is one of the best Pakistani restaurants by any standards. Food is authentic. Restaurant is extremely clean. Service is great. I am a road warrior and always checking out halal places while I am on the road and it is a very rear that you find something as good as Kebab Grill. I recommend Lamb, Chicken Karahi and Chicken Charga. I wish we have more Pakistani restaurants like Kebab Grill. Try the Lassi (Butter Milk) is very thirst quenching. Majority of the clientele is non Pakistanis. You go there once and you will return again.

★★★  This restaurant is very close to my home and up until now I was a frequent visitor. Not because of the food being exceptional but more because of the convenience of halal eating only a few minutes away.

I recently ordered a take away for dinner for my co-workers who were visiting me. At the restaurant, the tray of food did seem quite light. The tray was covered with aluminum foil. I did have some doubts, but out of politeness I did not open it in front of the owner/manager or ask any questions. On reaching home and opening the container, I did realize that the quantity was significantly less than what was promised for the money I paid.

When I called back the restaurant, the owner/manager started giving frivolous explanations. There was no expression of regret. On my telling him that he had just lost a customer for good, he responded, "Sure, Thanks!"

So much for supporting a 'halal' restaurant. Is not this sad?

To the owner: Rebut this review if you will. Wish you well in your business. Hope this will make you treat your customers fairly.

★★  Assalam-o-Alaikum again to my brothers and sisters. I love to review since i love to eat and give a fair critical analysis of each establishment. I think its only fair to others who may be spending hard earned $$ at a resturant. I visited with nephews and various friends 4 times to kabab grill by circuit city.So here goes
1. Clean place and clean bathrooms. A big plus for a "Pakistani" place.
2. Too bad the food is not authentic enough even for ABCD's. It lacks any flavor and should be only for locals non-desis. It does not even do justice to the word Pakistani food or Indian food. It seemed to be a bad mix of spices and some red coloring on the chicken and lamb. We ordered nihari it was 2 small pieces of beef without any taste. Ahh i miss sabri nehari or roti boti in ny.
3. Prices are very high for a place in Richmond va! I can pay about the same in Manhattan and get a really good meal @ 23rd and lex.
4. Owners need to get some more flavor in the meats to keep people coming back
5. The rice is not cooked per authentic recipes.
Hopefully they will improve since they are only open 7 months or so.
I recommend going to Northern va for authentic flavor.

NR  i've been to this restaurant couple of times...the food is ok more like an american rather than pakistani food and dont try the naan was a piece of dough........! and to my luck found some human hair in the food...! over all the doesnt worth trying any food here.
Kabab Grille responds: I am owner of kakab grille.I am at the restaurant all the time.No guest complained about human hair in the food or the naan.If the guest found anything dissatisfying they should have asked the management first to resolve the issue. If you read other comments from miali918, it was excellent review for our only competition in Richmond in a week span.

★★★★  We recently tried this Pakistani restaurant. We drove 2 hours and we were not disappointed at all. Great Pakistani food. We tried Chicken Karahi (Very Delicious but very ìPriceyî and not a generous serving), Butter Chicken (Very Delicious but very ìPriceyî and not a generous serving), Kabab Grille Special (Very tasty as usual very ìPRICEYî and no a generous serving at all). Halwa Puri and Kheer were to die for and very reasonably priced. We received great customer service. Restaurant has very nice ambient and very clean look. We surely will go back some time but had entrees been priced more reasonable with generous servings than we would go more frequently.

★★★★★  We've had lunch here a couple of times now. The food is excellent. We have to drive almost 35 mins to get to this restaurant, but definitely worth the trip. The first Pakistani restaurant in Richmond worth going to. I would say their food is good as a lot of the places in the DC area. Their frontier beef and chole's are really good.
