| | ★★★★ I've been here twice now. Great food. The chicken Shwarma sandwich is definitely unique and worth trying. The owner is very friendly and food was ready rather quickly. The parking may be a little hard to find. |

| | ★★★ The food here was average at best.
I had a Lamb Kabob with some Zaalouk (a type of Moroccan eggplant dish) and it was not very good.
The Kabob tasted very fatty which the owner attributed to it having been marinated in olive oil (which I don't buy). It was completely different in taste from anything else that I had eaten; if anything, it tasted like a very fatty sausage.
The eggplant (Zaalouk) was almost bitter. The salad though was good.
I'm not sure if I'll go back.
ON the positive side, the owner was nice enough. |

| | ★★★★★ Marrakesh Express is definitely the place where a foodie can get fresh, homemade, halal grub. The best shawarma sandwich is made here, which keeps me coming back at least three times a week. The owner spends so much time preparing his shawarma from the time the chicken breast leaves the market to the time it's made and served. The meat is cleaned, thinly sliced, and marinated in spices overnight. It then gets cooked in the shawarma maker, then shaved on to te grill. Fresh tomatoes, red onions, sliced green olives, lettuce and homemade sauce is mixed in. The mix goes inside a pita, which is then grilled in a panini press. The finished product is to die for. It's no wonder that my coworkers love the shawarma, sandwich-style or as a topping to fresh moroccan salad. I love everything in the menu, including the merguez sausage, which is made in the back kitchen. The sausage is very special because halal sheep casing is used, as well as special blend of spices from Morocco. I highly recommend this place. |

| | ★★★★ It was a relatively good Saad's substitute.
The Chicken Shawarma reminded me of a taco with the sauce they used, it was solid. |

| | ★★★★★ The food at Marrakesh Express is of far higher quality than other restaurants in its price range. The food carries the distinctive flavors of each dish. The seasonings are by no means an afterthought. For a $6.50 sandwich or $10.50 platter with two sides you can enjoy delicious food which is freshly cooked. My personal favorites are the merguez, or homemade lamb sausage, and harrira soup. I picked up a dozen orders for my job for lunch and everybody loved the food.

| | ★★★★★ The restaurant is clean (not always a sure thing for halaal places). The owner, Ibrahim, is a real nice guy, masha`Allah, who goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable and enjoy your stay (he gives free green tea; all you have to do is ask!)
All the food items I had, I enjoyed thoroughly. I would personally recommend either the lamb or chicken tagine (rice + meat dish) or the chicken shawarma (his own special style; not like your typical shawarma, but I loved it--especially the sauce that he gives on the side).
I would definitely recommend checking this place out and give our Muslim brother some well-earned business! |

| | ★★★★★ My wife and I recently dined here on a Friday night. The ambiance is nice and the inside of the restaurant is colorful and vibrant. We ordered the Zaalouk (sauteed grilled eggplant in garlic and tomatoes with olive oil) for an appetizer and the Chicken Tagine (braised chicken with green olives, saffron and preserved lemon) and Lamb Ketban (tender leg of lamb morsels marinated overnight in olive oil and fresh Moroccan herbs, grilled to perfection) for entrees. The food was delicious! Neither of us are Arab or all that familiar with Moroccan cuisine, so the food was a bit low on the spices for our palate, but it was wonderful nonetheless. The owner was extremely friendly and there were other customers coming and going, so clearly others must enjoy the place, as well. I'd definitely try it out if you're looking for something besides the typical South Asian or Arab/Mediterranean cuisine! (Note: Yes, I did grab a copy of the menu to describe the dishes!) |

| | ★★★★★ Food: You must try the Lamb Tagine and Chicken Tagine. The soups are delicate and perfectly seasoned. Marakesh Express's other dishes are including the sandwiches are standard Moroccan fare with a home-cooked twist. In a word the best way I can describe the food is authentic. Service: The owner is extremely welcoming and couldn't possibly be any friendlier. All the while he maintains a professional service atmosphere and makes sure your order is taken accurately and cooked quickly. The last time a couple of my friends and I went the owner sat down with us and talked to us like he was just one of the guys. Atmosphere: The restaurant is in the heart of West Philadelphia yet has a bright, clean, and friendly appeal. While there aren't any extravagant Moroccan decorations there is just the right mix of (quiet) music, paintings, and lighting to make you feel like you're really dining out. Overall: This is now my favorite restaurant in West-no-ALL of Philadelphia and I think you should consider it too if you get the chance. |

| | ★★★★★ West Philadelphia is slowly developing into the new spot for eats. So much so I have almost no interest to eat in Center City anymore considering the prices of most of the restaurants and what you get out of them. But enough of that.
Marrakesh Express is simply delicious. Carved out of a small row house, the owner spent nearly six months getting it ready to launch. The interior is simple though tasteful with the walls painted a warm red and yellow combination. There are an assortment of pictures from around Morocco on the wall. The owner was also quite gracious, having taken time to converse with us about his menu as well as about his homeland.
Ok, down to brass tax: the food. It's Moroccan so of course we had the tangine, ours was the lamb. Cooked with the meat on the bone, the lamb just melted in your mouth. It was simply ridiculous. Prunes and olives..., it was just really amazing. He even had some Moroccan "puffy bread" which my wife had asked about and he just happen to have a batch made. Apparently it's a back-home specialty or something. Anyway, it was very tasty, making a nice combo of crunchy crust and soft inside to sop up the juices with.
We started the meal with the harrira soup [a tomato-based soup with cheapeas, herbs and lentils] - he even gave us extra so I could sample some. Very courteous.
I also ordered a sandwich: the lamb ketban, which features leg of lamb that has been marinated in olive oil and herbs overnight and then grilled, tossed on one of Amorosso's buns with olives, onions, the kitchen sink. This thing was AMAZING! I could have eaten three. It also comes with a special sauce. Even the fries were good.
The shawarma is dynamite. He puts it between two pieces of pita and the presses it like a panini but better. It's got two sauces, olives, and the whole shabang. I also tried the ketban again and it was as good as the first time. Tangine was also great second time around.
We'll be heading back soon to sample the couscous, paella, and baked fish [the owner is from Casablanca which is known for its seafood so we're excited to try the baked fish].
I can't say enough really. It's clean, features a gracious owner and offers up some of the tastiest food you are to find in Philly for sure. This is a MUST-STOP joint.
