 | NR Craving authentic Italian went there with my friend . Service was very poor . Don't give consideration to who came first and has been waiting on the tables. Under staffed as well.
Ordered Pasta Alla Milano broccoli, mushrooms and tomatoes , would not recommend I refused to pay for a watery tasteless concoction.
Also ordered calzone which to me was tasteless an I feel they added cheddar cheese and it wants modzerelaa .
People seemed to enjoy gyros.

 | ★★★★ Clean, nice place with friendly staff. I had the burger topped with gyro, it was SO good! Husband had the grilled chicken sandwich which was ok as well. Will definitely eat here again. Portions are fairly big, and food came out fast. |

 | ★★★★★ This is still the best zabiha gyro in town and best zabiha thin crust pizza in town (lots of toppings, heavy on the cheese). There is so much meat on the gyro that if you ask for an extra pita bread, you can make a second sandwich with the extra meat. Many people have never tried the deep dish here and it is fantastic - takes longer to make so order ahead but well worth it, the only halal deep dish in Chicago. My wife actually thinks that it is better than deep dish at non-Muslim Chicago deep dish restaurants, which would make it the best deep dish in the world. |

 | ★★★★★ I love this place. I had to move out of state and often crave their pizza. I moved to another city with lots of Muslim food choices, but no one compares to Italian Express, mA. Alhamdulillah, on my last trip back to Chicago, I got a full pizza to freeze and take home with me! |

 | ★★★★ Thought I was going to have a heart attack after eating the pizza here, that being said the food was amazing. Went with a group of about 12 and we all could not look or even think about food after finishing here (thats how full we were), try the chicken nuggets and gyro pizza but make sure you have people to share with....... |

 | ★★★ The food here is good. The prices are OK. For someone from a city with only one halal pizza or burger (two different places) place, this was definitely adequate. I found the food to be good. I'm not really sure why everything with fried chicken takes 30 min to cook. Fried chicken strips at the one place near me takes about 15 min. I feel this is especially odd since they also sell french fries, so they already should have the hot oil ready. Service is probably best described as slightly subpar. They seemed nice enough, but didn't really seem to care if you were there. Also just to give you an idea, they attempted to sell us one smaller portion thing that was overpriced, saying the other one was either finished or the machine wasn't working. I was about to accept that, but then my brother-in-law that lives in Chicago was like, "let me see, are you sure you can't fix it" and they so OK we'll try, and magically in <5 min they brought us what we originally ordered. |

 | ★★★★ One word to describe how I feel after eating here: Fat! Only have it once in a while cause it's really greasy and salty. Gotta try the Gyro pizza at least once. But I think I'll stick with Veg or chicken. The food is good if you have it in moderation, because the servings are HUGE! I didn't want to look at at another gyro plate for a long long time. (Tip: skip any extra cheese toppings. The plates are already stacked!). |

 | ★★ The place is clean but the food is not worth the money.
Pizza is too salty and chicken too dry. ribs were also very hard and dry and the lasania was watery. |

 | ★★ Food at Italian Express on Devon Ave (new location) is sub-standard. Place looks clean but food is not as good as what they use to serve at their older Western Ave Location -- perhaps a management change? |

 | ★★★★★ I love Italian Express! Granted, I have not been to the new Devon location (but seen from the window, and can tell you that it is much cleaner than their old, original location on Western!), but I used to go to the one in Bloomingdale all the time. Great food, great prices!
btw, the gyros are close to a POUND of meat. If you call that skimpy, I don't even want to see what you call "right sized portions."
Oh, and as far as I know, the Browns is still there! Right next to Usmania Chinese! |

 | ★★ I have vowed to never set foot in this restaurant ever again. The portion sizes are terrible, the food is overpriced, and the service is slow. I have been there a number of times but the last time I went, they charged me $2 for a side of fries (which was supposed to come with my order for free), which they served in a saucer (just to give you an idea of how little the quantity was). The fried chicken took 25 minutes, and while it wasn't bad, it certainly wasn't worth the wait or the money. I wish Brown's Fried Chicken never shut down, which is the spot this restaurant has taken. The pizza is average, and the pasta dishes are ok. The only thing really good here is the burgers and steak sandwiches. All in all, not worth it if you're looking for reasonably-priced fast food, with portions that don't leave you hungry. |

 | ★★★★ I went to this place many times while I lived in Chicago. Their gyros, burgers, and fries are very good. Also I enjoyed their New York steak dinner very much. I would stay away from their italian dishes, they were horrible. Dining area is ok, but could use some improvement. Service is ok. Overall, thumbs up - recommended. |

 | ★★★ Like with any restaurant, the more popular they got, the lower the quality became. I remember when the gyros at this place were 3 dollars. Now, they're six dollars and it's not like you get any more gyro meat than before. Obviousley, inflation didnt cause this price hike. |

I went to this restaurant during the ISNA conference weekend. Masha Allah the food excellent, there was a wait but it was worth it. They give you good portions at a reasonable price. The service was excellent and very friendly. If your in the mood for a different taste I would recommend this place. |

 | ★★★★★ Ok, the service hasn't been the best over the years - but they have improved majorly.
And let me tell you, they have the best gyros in Chicago hands down, I don't care what any one says. Its also the only place I know that makes it the "spicy" style. Once you have it like that - you can't go back.
Also, I was surprised as hell - but the pizza is freakin amazing too!
This is an awesome place to eat, yes they could use some remodeling, but everyone I know loves this place.

 | ★★★★★ Gyros is king at this restaurant. The "spicy" option accommodates South Asian tastes, but its regular gyros is fine. Warning: you can't always get some of the more exotic dishes on the menu (they're often out of items like veal parmesan). Cheeseburgers rock! For a decadently-halal experience, enjoy eating the zabiha ribs. Above all, with your friends/family, order a pizza with onions, halal sausage, halal pepperoni, and gyros. That's right, I said sausage and pepperoni! My cousin "invented" the gyros topping a few years back when he ordered a pizza here, and its now a well- established topping. |

 | ★★★★★ Man i live for Italian Express,
you gotta get two things there everytime you go there:
1. Spicy Gyros Sandwhich
2. Fried Chicken Wings.
The Italian experience is not complete with out the big scary uncle giving you horrible service, and of course buying youre own two litre of pop and smuggling it in.
BUT THEIR LICENSE WAS REVOKED! These are very trying times, please make dua that i survive to see Italian Express back and in business! |

 | ★ This is one of the worst resteraunts I've ever been to. The service is horrible. During my first visit, I ordered a steak w/ a baked potato and some spaghetti. It took them an hour to bring out the steak, I had to remind them about the baked potato, and the spaghetti arrived with the check. The last time I went there, one of my cousins had a FLY IN HER SOUP. The owner resolved the issue not by bringing out another bowl of soup free of charge or even apologizing, but by asking us to leave the resteraunt immediatley. Worst. Resteraunt. Ever. |

 | ★ DONT GO TO THIS PLACE: used to go to this place a lot for their gyros. The gyros now a days lack big time in quality and quantity. e.g. "just a 1/4 of tomato slice", couple of onions slices. Believe me gyros looks anything but a gyro would normally look, I guess even a single shami-kabob with pita bread would give more taste and enjoyment.
Complained to the old lady manager about the food item. Instead of listining to our complain she gave us an attitute to describe her food and service as one of the best.
As people told to me to talk directly with the owner himself but the owner is busy with another restaurant in the suburbs and seldom stays long at Iti-Exp at Devon.

 | ★★ I don't know why everyone gets all hot and bothered about this place. Perhaps the Gyros are OK, but most of the other food I found lacking. The chicken parmigian (sp?) was absolutely gross. Perhaps this has more to do with the purveyors of the meat than the establishment. The decor is standard let's-throw-a-restaurant-together 3rd hand tables and chairs. May God bless them, but I go elsewhere. |

 | ★★★★ My husband and I only ate here once but really enjoyed it. I am American and was so excited to find so many non-Pakistani Halal food items on the menu. I had the non-spicy gyro and tasted their cheeseburger as well--definately tasty. It was good to be able to eat a very tasty halal cheeseburger in a restaurant for the first time in my life (not the cheap McDonald's type). I found the gyro to be a bit oily but they often are. It had a great taste non-the-less. I would disagree with Fatima when she said to eat the gyros paratha instead. (That was Ghareeb Nawaz's sad attempt to desi-ize middle eastern food--Yuck!) |

 | ★ "The food here is moderate its not the best in town. I bought the Gyros here and it is really bad. When you unwrap the Gyros the lettuce looks like its been old for days and the fries you receive with the Gyros are all soggy they look like they were made in the morning and left on the side. And the sauce you recieve with the Gyros is liquified like they made it with a mix of milk and some yogurt. When I usually go there I never sit in, beacuse the place looks like its been run down, they really need to repaint the place and get rid of the old furniture. Some times its so dark in the dinning room they need to brighten up the place." |

 | ★★★★ "Used to be a great great place to eat, with really good food. Now, the management has changed and the food is pretty lousy. If you liked Italian Express Gyros before, go to Ghareeb Nawaz (which offers food that is still acceptably edible) for their gyros paratha. Not the same thing identically, but definitely better Devon-wise. Ravi Kabab House is also another good alternative, the food is pretty tasty. Otherwise for some good gyros go to Pita House in Schaumburg or Lombard (not Pita Inn in Skokie, that's not Zabiha Halal). I've also heard good things about Osmaina Restaurant on Devon, but haven't tried it yet. Will the old Italian Express Management and Staff PLEASE come back?" |
