The zabihah.com story
Even though I was born and raised in America, I love food from around the Muslim world. Curries from Pakistan, tajines from Morocco, Islamic Chinese there are so many delicious options for those of us who want to eat primarily zabihah (conforming to Islamic dietary codes) food. But it's hard to find those few restaurants that serve zabihah food, so we miss out on great dining experiences. That's why my friends and I started zabihah.com we want to share the news about the places where we love to eat.
The thousands of reviews on zabihah.com's are honest evaluations by people like you. And just because a restaurant serves halal food doesn't necessarily mean its good. We feel that by holding Muslim restaurants to the highest standards, we can improve the dining experience of all Muslims. And if you don't agree with an evaluation, just let us know and we'll add your comments to our site.
In the past year, we've expanded all over the globe, helping Muslims find Halal food in countries where Muslims are a minority. We're adding new countries and regions all the time - if your favorite Halal establishments aren't on the list, add them to our list and spread the good news! To get started looking for Halal food in your area, just use the menu on the left.
Our origins
The origins of zabihah.com come from the website of American Muslims Intent on Learning and Activism (AMILA), which zabihah.com founder Shahed Amanullah created and maintained. As part of that website, a short guide to Bay Area restaurants that served halal meals was created in 1998 as a service to the membership, who enjoyed eating out and wanted to try to stick to halal food.
Response to the halal restaurant guide was tremendous, revealing a pent-up demand for locating and rating halal food. In order to reach a greater population and expand the capabilities of the service, zabihah.com was created in July of 1999. With your support, zabihah.com has become an indispensable resource for Muslim communities worldwide.
