San Francisco is home to one of the most vibrant Muslim neighborhoods in America - the Tenderloin. Located close to the downtown core of the city, the Tenderloin has been known as a run-down area, but over the past 10 years Muslim restaurants and businesses have multiplied, creating tourist draws for Muslim and non-Muslim alike. The cuisine ranges from Brazilian to Thai, though the area is known mainly for its authentic South Asian food, so much so that locals affectionately refer to the area as the "Tandoor-loin".
