★★☆☆☆ This is a completely halal Americanized Chinese restaurant located in Spanish Harlem at 2nd Ave and 110th Street (the two signs says "Halal Chinese" and "No Pork Halal Chinese".) If there's any doubt as to just how halal the restaurant is, the names of many items on the menu start with "Halal," e.g. "Halal Kung Po Chicken" and "Halal Sesame Beef" and "Halal Broccoli Fried Rice" (?) for some 94 of the 160 menu items (I counted). This restaurant is related to the other No Pork Halal Chinese restaurants (one in the Bronx and the third in Brooklyn). There is essentially no place to sit, so this is strictly take-out. Parking is available on 2nd Ave and on its side streets, but these streets are meaner than the Nordschleife, so you should leave the twin-turbo 1987 Ruf CTR Yellowbird (just 1150kg!) at home.
The restaurant serves an extensive menu of Americanized Chinese food, name it and they probably make some variation of it. The Halal Kung Po Chicken (small $6, large $11) is slices of chicken stir fried with green peppers in an indistinct slightly-sweet sauce with peanuts on top. Connoisseurs of Kung Po Chicken will, regrettably, be disappointed. The Halal Szechuan Chicken (small $6, large $11) is similar, slices of chicken and vegetables stir fried in a sweet and sour sauce a bit too saccharin for this reviewer's taste.
This reviewer, alas, has a cynical take on the cuisine here. Like most suburban Americanized Chinese food, the food here is bland at best and offensive at worst (given its happy complacency in sub-subpar food.) Granted, this is probably a winning formula in this neighborhood. But there are better halal Americanized Chinese restaurants to be found. Posted on February 11, 2017 |

★★★☆☆ But the workers doesn't know the meaning of Salam. They never reply to greeting (salam). Makes me wonder if it's really halal. Of a non-muslim serves halal food, it's hard to accept it. Posted on January 5, 2011 |
