General Manager Ali Abu Baker grew up with the dream of one day opening a restaurant where his passion for good food and good friends could come together. Ali grew up in Yafa, an area the coastal countryside in Sothern Yemen. As a young man, however, he decided to leave for the land where any dream can become a reality, the United States. In 1973, Ali moved to Costa Mesa, California, where he labored building engines for large ships to earn a living. He bought and revamped a grocery store in New York after all of the years of hard work, just another step closer to realizing his dream. San Francisco was calling, and Ali came to work at a family-owned business. The Yemeni Restaurant opened in early 2010 and has already become a favorite amongst the locals. Ali hopes to spread the love and world of authentic Yemeni cuisine to all. Added on May 29, 2010 and last updated 3 years ago

★★☆☆☆ Nice place to sit and eat with family but for us the food was quite bland and not what we expected. We had madni chicken which was very soft but no taste and soft chicken skin was not nice. My husband tried lamb shish kebab( thin strips of lamb) it was a little tough to cut. Only lentil soup was nice and service was great. Oh and the ladies washroom was DISGUSTING, not at all clean. I wonder if they have ever gone in to clean it. Posted on January 8, 2016 |

★★★★☆ The food was really good. I ordered the kabsah and mandi. Both were really delicious. This was probably the best Lamb dish i have eaten for a while. the service was a sort of a let down since the server didn't havea good grasp on English and we had to ask for a refill of water. ★★★★☆ Had the Chicken Ghilaba, which is mainly a breakfast item, but was still great for lunch, as it came with a large plate of chicken pieces and vegetables in a spicy sauce, a big piece of Naan and some chili sauce on the side. I also ordered some Yemeni tea, which as great! very flavorful and sweet. Plenty of seating inside with nicely decorated interior. Service is friendly. Prices are reasonable. I will be back here again when I am in the area. Posted on September 29, 2012 |
