★★★★★ This my place to go for Halal food, owners always accommodating with big heart, they do everything to make you happy, ask for them as not all the staff know everything, it saddened me the previous reviewer Tme gave the place 2 stars accusing whoever he talked to said no halal, who did you ask? with all the hate in the wold you need to show love and support to your fellow muslims, the place has been serving Halal since opening 10 years ago, thank you so much Saffron for providing Halal food for SOMA San Francisco. ★★★★★ Great Mediterranean restaurant, family owned by Muslims, l've been coming here for years for a date or with casual friends, they do put their unique spin on classic recipes, surprisingly making them even better than the originals, some dips / side dishes really unique & tasty, pomegranate walnuts dip, organic Moroccan carrot dip, on the spicy side, fire spicy green pepper, yum, presentation is pretty appealing. Over the course of nine years l have tried many of the Items .
Now go try it for yourself. Posted on November 10, 2015 |

★★★★★ We're regulars here at Saffron 685 and come for lunch or dinner. It's also safe to say we've had everything on the menu. Nothing disappoints. It's all super fresh.
The lentil soup is excellent, beef steak is favorable & succulent, konafa dessert from heaven, honestly, it's all really good. Posted on August 29, 2015 |

★★★★★ We invited a friends from the mideast to this place as we live a few blocks from it and we come here regularly.
I'd like to give my compliment to the chef, hands down, and thanks for the server who made the event a delightful experience.
Otherwise, it was pretty favorable food, amazing kebab and if you want a fresh homemade baklava this is the place, they have pistachio or walnut beside the fresh mozzarella w/ricotta Konafa. Posted on April 3, 2010 |

★☆☆☆☆ I thought I would get some takeout food from here this evening and walked into the place at 8.45pm. (It closes at 9.00pm). There were a couple of customers eating at one of the tables but no one at the counter serving. After standing there for approx 4 minutes, I heard noises from the kitchen area and called out with no response. I then literally popped my head around to the kitchen area to ask if I could order some food. I assume it was the owner who then rudely snapped back that that the place was closed and that I shouldn't be back there. Complete lack of class and won't be going back! Posted on March 10, 2010 |

★★★★★ I had a friends coming from next door state Colorado, my wife and I took them around Ashoora, I'd like to say thank you, thanks a bunch to Sami for all the efforts he and the staff they did for making us feel like being back home. I highly recommend the place for 1- the quality and 2- the use of Halal meat (ritually approved by Islamic law). Posted on January 13, 2010 |

NR In response to the previous review, I'd like to assure you that the meat is Halal not all the staff know where we get the meat, the owner is Muslim and the is Kimberly not Kim as you said, again the staff don't know everything, if you google the place you'll find that the name of the owner is Muslim and his nationality is Syrian, everything on line in this day and age, I hope that answer your questions Posted on June 30, 2009 |

★☆☆☆☆ I ate at this place last week, and in retrospect, I wish I had not. The food was absolutely delicious, but after speaking with the manager, I have some serious doubts about the authencity of the halal-ness of this place.
When we walked into the place, there was a sign saying all meat is halal and even the menu went out of its way to say all meat is halal. The manager/cook also looked Middle-Eastern, and although there was alcohol being served, I still did not doubt this place was halal. We ordered, ate, and went to pay at the register. In an attempt to avoid awkwardness, me and my friend started to make conversation with the manager. We asked him where he got his meat from and after stumbling for a few seconds he said "we have our own distributor"...as if getting meat was a big secret or something. We asked him who the owners were and again he seemed reluctant to answer. Finally, he responded and said the owner was a white lady named Kim. At this point me and my friend started to get suspicious. So we asked if the owner was Muslim and he responded "I didn't ask".
After considering all the facts, one would have to be skeptical to whether or not Saffron is legitimatlly halal or not. They serve alcohol, the owner is a white lady named Kim, and the manager does not care to discuss where he gets his "halal" meat from. Now, I'm not saying this place is not halal for sure, but I'm saying personally, I have some serious doubts. Unless someone I trust can validate that this place is halal for sure, I will not eat there again and I would not recommend anyone that eats halal only to eat their either.
