★★★★☆ We visited this restaurant at the Sunday breakfast/brunch time. They do have a buffet, but none of the meat on it is halal (would've been nice since the price is good) but it does have plenty of other stuff like pancakes, eggs, fruits, etc.
You definitely do have to ask for halal to make sure you get it but the waitresses are well versed in what items are halal and available. We ordered a couple of the turkey clubs -- no bacon, but fries included (one of the few restaurants that actually have halal lunch meat), the chicken quesadilla, a burger, a cod fish sandwich and some pancakes. The club sandwiches were really great and filling, the quesadilla was well packed with chicken and vegetables, and the kids' foods were enjoyed by all.
Our waitress was really sweet and the hostess, Jestine, was pretty amusing. The kids liked them both. The staff generally is friendly and helpful.
The restaurant itself could use a renovation. The carpet is old and well stained and the tables could use a little work. The bathroom was one of those use-in-case-of-emergency-otherwise-hold-it types. When we first got to our table/booth there was an odd smell but it disappeared quickly (not sure what it was). There were no flatware or napkins on the table when we sat down and the waitress had to reach between each person to put them out.
Overall it was pretty good. The food was great but the restaurant could use some work or at least a good deep clean. 8 out of 10 Posted on July 3, 2013 |

★★★★★ Good place and when we went there, the only thing halal was burger and chicken tenders. I went with family and atmosphere was nice. Posted on September 14, 2012 |

★★★☆☆ They confirmed they sell some halal dishes. But be careful, only a few dishes are halal. The environment inside is not very family-oriented. I would suggest taking food out. Big boy burger was excellent. Posted on April 8, 2008 |

★★☆☆☆ You have to ask and specify that you want halal food. My first experience was bad, the food was not to my liking. But eatable. I don't think I will try there again. Maybe it was just the cook that was in at that time. Posted on October 6, 2007 |

★★★★☆ Great for kids, Delicious Deserts. Love their Pasta Dishes. Family is huge fan of their Burgers, but burgers are a little blah for me, no salt or taste. otherwise Two Thumbs up. Posted on October 16, 2006 |

★★★★★ We visited Detroit for the first time recently. The first clearly marked halaal place we came across on Michigan Avenue in Dearborn was this Big Boy, as they had 'serving halaal meat' on their big sign. The restaurant seemed new and well kept. They had wonderful hamburgers, fries, and sandwich melts. The dessert menu also looked very appetizing, with a variety of milkshakes, pies, sundaes, etc. They made my burger exactly the way I like it. We were starved from the drive and thoroughly enjoyed the great food. The staff were friendly and helpful as well, although a bit on the slow side.
Please note that you must request that they use halaal meat. We were told that they could make our menu items halaal, so be sure to ask for it. I would definitely return here to eat in the future. Posted on November 6, 2005 |
