HALAL SUMMARY
The menus at this restaurant clearly state that Halal food is served. From the website: 'Halal real meat with no msg'
★☆☆☆☆ Hmm... where do I start? How about the name; I didn't want to go here for a long time because it is called "bar & grill," but then I found out that they don't sell alcohol. So it turns out the owners were confused as to what the name "bar and grill" implies.
This is one of those desi restaurants where they want to make a little bit of everything: Indo/pak, Afghani, Middle Eastern, Burgers, Thai and I think I even saw "italian salad" being offered. My suggestion is stick to one region.
Anyway, the first thing we decided on was the afghani chicken which was $11.99. When I ordered it I was told they were out of chicken and I had to order lamb which was $14.99. It seems if you didn't order enough chicken I should not have to pay an extra $3.
The second thing I noticed on the menu was "lamb falafal." So I went up to the counter (which was crawling with ants) and asked "so is lamb falafel made with ground lamb and chickpeas?" The owner, who was clearly desi, replied "no, we are middle eastern. It is pieces of lamb." Then he tried to convince me that the things made from chickpeas are not middle eastern falafels, and that a real falafel is chunks of marinated meat (which is actually closer to shawarma). In case the owner reads this, here is a link to show you what falafel means: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falafal.
The food comes in to-go containers because the owner says that he is too short handed to bus the tables. Even though we were the only people there at what should have been a peak time.
Also, there are no napkins, instead each table has a box of kleenex. Not exactly made for cleaning your hands after eating oily food.
The food itself wasn't the worst I've had, but it still wasn't good enough to save them from receiving one star. Posted on September 1, 2012
