Kabul Restaurant |
|
106 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106
Philadelphia's first Afghan restaurant since 1990. This understated, long-running BYO sleeper takes you out of loud Old City via delectable Afghan dishes and a quiet setting that charms. There's nothing more you can ask for besides an excellent value, and a staff that is as attentive as possible. Added on August 20, 2001 and last updated 3 years ago

★★★★★ Was craving Afghan food with my girlfriend last night so I decided to try Kabul instead of Ariana for once. I must say..I was very surprised when I first walked in due to the nice decorations and music. Furthermore, The food was incredible, the staff were great... It's safe to say that this is my new favorite spot to eat Afghan food. I'm definitely sold Posted on May 4, 2015 |

★☆☆☆☆ I just visited the place (25 April 2015) for dinner. We were two families (4 kids, 4 adults) but they avoided us. May be families are not welcome there but I guess they should clearly declare that. It's more like a Bar with food served there. I left the place as I understood their compulsion. They did not want to bother their bar customers with the presence of kids! Sad!!! Posted on April 25, 2015 |

★☆☆☆☆ I can't figure out which one is worse.. The food or the service!! Total waste of my money Posted on April 12, 2015 |

★★★★★ Don't know what the negative reviews are talking about. This is the best afghani restaurant I've been too and that means a lot cause I've been to many. Excellent food, great staff, cool decorations, etc.... Highly recommend it and will definitely come back in the future. Posted on December 27, 2014 |

★☆☆☆☆ The worse food I had ever eaten before. I was visiting from Mississippi for the conference. I thought I am gona eat some good kabuli pulawa. This the worse Kabuli pulawa u can eat. The food was old, uncooked and very expensive. This restaurant is giving the afghani food a bad name. Posted on April 28, 2014 |

★★★★★ I'm not sure what the March 29, 2004 review is talking about but I've never experienced nor witnessed anything like that. I have seen guys holding hands walking in here and getting the same level of respect and courtesy as anyone else. If they're not making them feel uncomfortable, I find it extremely difficult to believe they would make an interracial couple feel awkward.
With that said, I LOVE this place. On weekends, it's good to make a reservation because they get packed. Their food and service is exceptional every single time. If they mess up, which is rare, they make up for it in some way.
I've been eating here for at least 8 years and I will keep going back if they keep offering the same level of service. Posted on January 25, 2012 |

★★★☆☆ greg -------- what you experienced is unacceptable. i've always been fond of the food/restaurent... but i can live without it. i've witnessed negative attitudes like that before in restaurants, and it's so counter-productive and destructive. a real shame. i wish you had confronted them and voiced it to the owners'. anyway, i'll avoid 'em. ★☆☆☆☆ I thought I should make everyone aware of a situation this past weekend that may make you rethink your decision to eat here
My girlfriend and I entered this establishment at 9:30 on Friday night. Waiting at the appointed area to be seated, we were eyeballed up and down by the entire staff. After an uncomfortable amount of time, we were escorted past many empty tables in prominent places in the restaurant to be seated in the rear. At this point, we then had to wait for menus, while looking at the menus we were never spoken to again. Customers who came in after us were given water (something we never received); eye contact was avoided at every turn by any waiter or host, while others that came in after us were waited on immediately. After about 10 minutes, which I feel is more than enough time to at least be acknowledged. At this point, we left. No effort was made to stop us, which I took as an admission of their rotten treatment of us.
I feel the need to point out that I am white, my girlfriend is black, and this treatment is unfortunately not unique.
I strongly urge everyone who cares about civil rights, unity and equality to boycott this hostile establishment Posted on March 29, 2004 |

★★★★★ Food was absolutely fantastic. Although they do give small portions for the price. Good atmosphere and well mannered waiters gives this place a thumbs up. If you don't eat too much but want really good Afghani food, this is the place. Posted on January 18, 2004 |

★★★★★ My husband and I come here to celebrate special occassions. The food it great, especially the kebabs. You can call in advance and reserve the takht where you can sit on the floor and eat Sunnah-style. The staff is really friendly! Its a must to take visiting friends and relatives.
