★★★★☆ The service was very bad it took them 15 minutes to give us our water, And they were not even busy. We got the chicken wings, chicken biryani that's was good but the chicken vandloo was nasty. Posted on May 12, 2016 |

★★★★☆ Excellent Indian restaurant. Their food was a little bit spicy but what would you expect from an Indian restaurant. The portion size was small. The poeple were very friendly. Posted on January 16, 2006 |

★★★★☆ Amazing Restaurant. Great atmosphere and phenomenal food. My best food experience during my trip to San Francisco.
It's in the basement, but it's very well decorated, and there's a fountain too. The music was cool - an Indian Music Remix CD from DJ Doll which was a nice complement to the meal.
I myself ordered the meat mix dish which had chicken, beef, lamb, etc. My cousin ordered the Lamb chops which were amazing.
Great extra touch with the lemon water at the end to dip your hands in to clean them without having to make a trip to the bathroom.
The only thing keeping this restaurant from being excellent is the men's bathroom. What a horrible place within a fine restaurant. Not sure about how the women's is - but they need to fix it up. There's no excuse for this. Posted on August 11, 2005 |

★★★★★ VERY GOOD. PERIOD. Posted on July 3, 2005 |

★★★★☆ Good food & lovely decor for decent prices. You will find the usual suspects on the menu--the tandoori is quite excellent. One of the few places in the City you can actually have a nice sit down desi meal. [Caveat: They have recently begun DJing on the weekends so sometimes the music sets a jarring atmosphere--I can't take too much frenetic bhangra music with my curry!] Posted on July 26, 2004 |

★★★★★ Mela is as good as if not better than Shalimar garden. They improved the decor a little, and it is clean. I wish they would clean up the bathrooms a bit more.. although in comparison to the typical halal joint, this is ultra clean. This resturaunt has the opportunity to come up to par with other non halal standard resturaunts, because it is very good already. Posted on February 11, 2004 |

★★★★★ Mela Tandoori Kitchen is by far the best Indian/Pakistani restaurant in San Francisco. Check it out for yourself. Posted on February 6, 2004 |

★★★★★ Previously known as Shalimar Garden, it's new emergence as Mela Tandoori Kitchen brings forth an amazingly re-done decor, an expanded dinner and drinks menu and live dj'ing on Fri. and Sat. nights. A long standing popular underground hideaway, Mela offers all things Indian and Pakistani at the most reasonable prices, within mere walking distance of Union Square, after-dinner entertainent is also located conveniently nearby, with plenty of parking to boot..All major Credit Cards are welcomed! ★★★★★ "It has the same owners and menu as 'Shalimar', which is just around the corner. The food as good as that in 'Shalimar'. However, unlike the original 'Shlaimar' this place, i.e; Shalimar Garden, is very clean! You have to take a flight of stairs down from the street to get to this very descent restaurant. It is good enough to even entertain your American guests." Posted on July 6, 2000 |
