★★★☆☆ This is the only full restaurant Indian buffet in the neighborhood. Signs in the window say that the meat is halal. I have not checked up on their meat vendor. My husband and I go here for the buffet - we've never ordered from the menu. The food here is adequate - nothing spectacular, but decent - different masalas for each dish. Buffet usually includes at least one dal, goat curry, and usually 2 chicken dishes, plain basmati, pakoras, naan, saag and one other veg dish (usually aloo gobi or aloo matar), a dessert item like gulab jaman or kheer, and the fixings for salad or chaat papri. I think ice cream (there are 2 or three flavors) are included in the buffet as well. The chef used to be a guy, but lately the person cooking has been a middle-aged desi woman. I've noticed that the food has improved since she has been cooking, tastes more home style and more from scratch. Plus, the buffet is pretty cheap (I belive it is $8 for lunch and $9 for dinner). The restaurant is run by non-Muslim Punjabis. I had thought they were Sikh because they wear steel bracelets and the restaurant has some decorations with the Guru, but then one of the waiters explained that they are actually Punjabi Hindus who accept many of the practices and devotions of Sikhism. The restaurant does serve alcohol and there is a full bar along the back wall - in full view as you enter. The restaurant is clean and isn't a dive though usually the lights are off or very low and it really isn't upscale. Just a neighborhood place. Crowd is a mixture of desi and non-desi neighborhood folk. Staff is friendly and service is good. Posted on April 26, 2006 |
