Marino's Pizza & Subs Sports Bar was reported closed or not Halal 8 years ago Marino's Pizza & Subs was established in 1958 and is family owned and operated. We use quality ingredients, such as halal and kosher (by request), and no pork products. For example, we use a great bread that costs much more than other lower quality substitutes. We create our own sauce and dough from scratch on site, we use the highest quality steak for our subs, and much more. Open 11am-11pm daily. Dine-in, carry-out and delivery available. Comfortable dining room and separate private dining room/meeting space available. Easy access and plenty of free parking. This restaurant is located on the former site of Chikzza restaurant. NR Went here and waited more than 15 minutes for someone to come to the front to take my order. I even called their # while standing there. No one came. The excessive amount of alcohol turned me off too. Not going back. Sad. I was a loyal customer when this owner was on Richmond Hwy (they opened Marinos there where Chiczza used to be... By the way Chiczza was the best darn place in NOVA for fried chicken and gyros... Owner of Chiczza...Pleaseeeee come to Springfield if you are reading this!!!) Posted on May 23, 2013 |

★☆☆☆☆ Asslamamu Alaykum, I hope to shed some light for anyone visiting this place. Let me first begin with some logistics. There are two locations for this place, (3100 Jefferson Davis Highway Alexandria, VA 22305 Tel: 703-548-85440 and (6558 Backlick Road Springfield, VA 22150 Tel: 703-451-8544). Second, this place is not called Marinos Pizzza. Its full name is Marino's Pizza & Subs Sports Bar. For those that have been around for a long time in the area can be assured that this is NOT THE SAME PLACE as in Arlington that has the square pizza slices. That is what lured me here at the Springfield location I didn't even know this was a halal joint. I would like to document my first and last visit…
I made my order online and went to pick up and pay. Once I got there I saw hookah signs on the windows. I was taken back but I did not think of anything. As soon as I entered I was presented with a smokers odor. I went p to the counter (which is a bar) and made it known I was here for a pick up and waited. As I turned around I noticed there was a deejay table at the front of the place, a few colored flashing lights, speakers, and some more lights in a string around the ceiling. Then I looked at one of the TVs they had up on the wall and noticed a "Jadoo" hooked up to it. For those who do not know what a Jadoo is please visit their website (http://jadootv.com). In short it is a small USB device that captures Internet TV broadcasts. From what I know Jadoo is widely markets to South Asians. Then I became more curious and looking to the side I noticed a short hall which led into a dark "smoke out room" with couches and another TV on the wall. When I walked back I began to notice the various certificated on the wall. The normal ones but also a halal certificate and alcohol permit. Then another one listed its management who were mostly, "Butt" family. Another one said the the parent business was Nafs… something. Getting back to the bar I looked at the back wall and it has a large assortment of hard liquor bottles. I could not believe where I was and the things I saw. I got my order and left. As far as the food- not that special. I ordered brochette which was not at all the dish many of you have gotten elsewhere. Also shrimp alfredo for my wife who is American and she said the did not make it correct and that it was not even alfredo sauce. And the pizza was paper thin and not tastily.
Finally, I would like to comment on the fact that patronizing establishments that serve alcohol should not be in line with any practicing Muslim. Especially a place which is contradicting itself by having a halal certificate and at the same time having music, alcohol, and hookah. Also that fact that it is also a "nite club". And if any of the owners read this review please seek refuge from Allah. Posted on June 23, 2012 |

★★★★★ *(Just had to amend that they have relocated to 6658 Backlick in Springfield, VA)* They are really friendly and accommodating. You have to tell them to make it halal, otherwise they use regular products --- they don't have halal cold cuts, pepperoni, and bacon. At least 3 times I forgot to tell them to make it halal when I called in without realizing, and the woman in the back saw me as I was leaving and stopped me and had her employee make me a new one each time. Their Philly Cheesesteak is probably the best I've had in this area. Posted on March 6, 2011 |

★☆☆☆☆ I went to this location a while ago when Chikzaa was at this location and liked the pizza we ordered. We recently went back thinking the food would be the same and ordered a cheeseburger and chapli kabob. The prices were not that good and the food was totally tasteless. I don't even think they put salt in the meat for the burger. The chapli kabobs were made extremely thin and also did not have any flavor.
Overall I was very disappointed with the food and will not come back here to waste my money. Posted on August 2, 2010 |

★☆☆☆☆ When you ask for Halal, you are asking for the most tasteless and gross food you will ever have. I had the buffalo wings (halal) and they just put unseasoned buffalo wings into the oven and added hot sauce at the end. The chicken smelled and when I asked the employee why they had cooked it that way he told me "it's healthier". Also, the pizza tasted like they had taken regular Afghan bread and put cheese and burned ground beef. The cheese was brown and there was no pizza sauce in sight. I do not reccomend this place if you want good food. Posted on July 3, 2010 |

★★★★☆ Like others mentioned, make sure you tell them that you want Halal food. Their cheese steak was good. Posted on February 19, 2010 |

★★★☆☆ I ate here once, their pizza is just average.I ordered Chicken Pizza and they used fried chicken as topping. Their Beef Pizza was better but crust was too thick and too much cheese. Customer service is good. They really need to improve their pizza. Business before them "Chikzza" had an excellent Chicken Tikka Pizza, which i really miss. I haven't tried other stuff but will write up about their burgers and appetizers later. Posted on October 31, 2009 |

★★★★★ members of zabihah, someone had falsely accused the new restaurant not to be halal. they do have halal items on the menu and clearly explains every customer that walks in asking for halal. i have never had customer service the way i recieved here. praise to the staff at marinos for providing halal items that we crave for expecially steak and cheese, chicken pizza toppings and wings. try it and u will be pleased.
