★★★☆☆ We went to this restaraunt to eat for the first time and to tell you the truth we didn't really enjoy it that much. We ordered some chicken wings and for some reason the wings were a little crunchy. We didn't really get that good service there. Overall I would rate this place a 3 1/2 star cuisine. ★★★★★ I went to Al-Ittihad for the first time and was amazed by the cleaniness of the place and the welcome and professionalism of its staff. The food was absolutely delicious. I thought it was very good value for money. I promised my family to take them back. Posted on February 2, 2004 |

★★★★★ The Best Afghani and Iranian Cuisine in the GTA. This place is a must visit. My sheer experience dining at Al-Ittihad was blissful... the quality and the quantity was superb.
After talking to the owner I figured out that the place was opened a couple of months back. They also own the Al-Ittihad Groceries in the same plaza. The menu itself was very pleasing and my taste buds were all excited even before the food was ordered.
We tried the family dinner... we were a group of 14... so... we went with 3 family dinner combos. The plate included 3 skewers each of Chicken kebob, Shami kebob and tikka kebob with a huge plate of rice... it was simply out of this world experience.
The rice was perfectly steamed and buttered... the other kind of rice was perfectly spiced. The crunch was worth all the effort.
The salad was unlike any salad I had ever seen in my life at a restaurant. It was a completely royal with genuine calamata olives dressed with mint, olive oil and lemon. Perfect to the last bite and I was surprised it was not soggy at all. What that meant was... it was prepared-to-our-order.
The music was not loud and was at a perfect tempo. One could concentrate and listen to the lyrics and, at the same time, take to the person sitting across the table without getting bothered by it.
The decor was astounding. The place has no dark spots/corners... etc. I liked the fresh feeling of the place.
I brought the menu home with me... and I discovered that they have home delivery too. And tons of other items on the list that I am going to try soon.
My friend called it Tajik cuisine... a mix of Afghani and Persian food. I recognize many of the terms from Hyderabadi cuisine... like Firnee, Ash Reshta, Palau and Khorist Qyma.
The naan they serve is made in the restaurant and is of the top quality Afghani breads in town.
Well... I have run out of words to describe my experience at Al-Ittihad (unity in Arabic)... I look fwd to going there soon. And I higly recommend those of you who like... well done, moderately oiled and spiced (aka homemade) food and down to Earth prices.
Its located on Pharmacy and Lawrence in the plaza on the South of Lawrence. Bon Appetite! Posted on October 1, 2003 |
