★★★☆☆ Went here for an early dinner (approx 6pm) on a Sunday evening. The parking in this area (Mission District) is very difficult. When we got in there were plenty of seating, but they did not have a lot of the popular dishes available (no Haleem, no Nihari and No Chicken Kofta). So we just got some Tandoori Chicken, Seekh Kebabs and Daal along with some Naans. Food was good. Self-service like most Pakistani places, but this location did seem a little nicer in terms of decor and cleanliness. Downside: they let people bring in their own wine/beer, and the prices are a bit higher than other locations, but I guess because it's in a hip & trendy location of SF, they can get away with it. Complimentary tea was strong, but perhaps that was the dish soap that we could still smell in the cups! The restaurant is cleaner and better decorated (for a Pakistani-get-your-own-dishes-service kind of place), and the crowds are always present, supporting the deliciously seasoned foods. Both SF Pakwans are owned and managed by the same person and thus the signature dishes are reassuringly consistant. Any visit has to involve the chicken tikka masala although experimenting with the daily specials sometimes delivers other gems, such as the traditional haleem or the wonderfully fresh chicken keema, all reasonably priced. The restaurant has become extremely popular with the local crowd and is now packed every night of the week. Alcohol is not served but people do bring their own.
