★★★★★ This place is amazing...we visit every time we go to San Francisco. My favorite items on the menu are the eggs Benedict, sausages, jambon...actually you can't go wrong. We've tried most things on the menu and we don't even live there. Last time I tried the French onion soup. It was hearty and delicious. Can't wait to visit again. I always eat so much there I don't have room for dessert but I noticed they also have gelato. Posted on April 25, 2014 |

★★★★☆ A clean and decent location. Lots of parking, as it’s in a small complex area. I had the chipotle burger. The bacon was a bit too cooked, but the beef was good. I would come back to try their breakfast options. It is family friendly and 100% halal. Owner is Algerian. Posted on September 1, 2018 |

★★★★★ Food was delicious! Everything was fresh. We had a variety of things and everything was good, savory crepe, wrap, and a platter. We finished with a wonderful chai latte and gelato Posted on August 19, 2016 |

★★★★★ What can I say that others haven't? This cosy place has the most amazing crepes, breakfasts, North African specialties, and more. Worth driving out of the way to get a truly memorable (and inexpensive) meal! Posted on February 22, 2016 |

★★★★★ One of my favorites in the Bay Area. I'm a sucker for ambiance and decor of a restaurant and this place nails it in that regard. Definitely different than most Halal restaurants and that is clearly evident in their predominantly non-Muslim customer base. All their meat is Halal, and not only that they use organic chickens and free range cows as advertised on their website. Really impressed with this place, more halal restaurants should aim for excellence in all regards like this place does. As for my favorite dishes, it would be a toss up between their grillades burger and tex mex philly panini. Their Algiers Marguez crepe is also great. Their dessert crepes are great too, I recommend the banana creme brulee crepe added with their house made gelato. Posted on September 25, 2014 |

★★★★★ I always try and eat at Care Grillades at least once when I'm in town. This time it's been 2 years since I was in the area. The good news, the food and service is still as good as ever. The bad news, none! Enjoy! Posted on September 5, 2014 |

★★★★★ I have had food at this place several times...and almost tried every type of savory crepe and steak on their menu...there is not a single item on the menu that is not delicious...the gellato is pretty amazing too...I highly recommend this place if you are looking for something different yet very delicious Posted on December 3, 2013 |

★★★★★ باركم الله , we were visiting from Chicago and ate here twice, could not be happier. The owner is a very nice brother, the service was excellent. No doubt better than any halal outfit in Chi-town,. Had the ribeye steak once and a burger before that, recommend both highly. The steak was cooked perfectly as requested, juicy and not overdone. ★★★★☆ We were there last night and food was very good. I spoke to the owner few months ago and she confirmed everything is Halal but I spoke to her again today and was told they buy their meat from Restaurant Depot. Dijon mustard on the table has white wine so be little careful when you dine there. Posted on June 2, 2013 |

★★★★★ Was visiting SF from out of town. Based on the reviews from Zabihah I took my family to this place (twice). Both the service and food fantastic, the kids' Panini's and Crepes were delicious. I had the rib-eye steak both times, it was juicy and tender. I'd definitely reccommend this place to all. Posted on June 7, 2012 |

★★★★☆ Both the food & service were excellent. I had the Portabello Burger & I can honestly say it was the best restaurant burger I ever ate. I did not see the halaal statements on the menu though I was told by the syaff members that everything on the menu is halaal. Also the dijon mustard placed with the condiments on the table had white wine listed as an ingredient. I probably will not go back because I am skeptical of the halaal status. ★★★★★ This is my favorite restaurant not just favorite halal restaurant. It's small with a nice decor. The waiters are usually polite and friendly although sometimes a little slow. I love the food and desert here. I like the owner too. He's a great guy, polite and friendly. Try banana Crepe Brule and their Chai tea and you never enjoy any other desert. I like panini here too, our favorite are chicken pesto and cafe steak panini. I like the fact they don't serve Alcohol and they have a full halal menu. Usually you won't find a full halal restaurant which has good food, environment/decor, and service/waiter. It has it all. Posted on February 28, 2012 |

★★★★★ AoA,
I've been to Cafe Grillades over 20 times, my husband over 50 (last 5-6 years). Hands down we come back over and over again because of the food and service.
I read a sister's really negative review and was saddened. This is hands down one of the two best halal restaurants in the Bay Area and doesn't deserve that kind of review. There are tons of halal options in the Bay Area, but none like this. None are this family friendly, have amazing service and different one of a kind halal food.
The service is amazing and whom I think is the owner's wife (no uniform) served us during Eid (how many halal restaurants are opened on Eid?), during a super busy lunch day service, said salaam, was so nice and came back to check on us.
The owner himself has often served us and is incredibly attentive, remembering us (the other staff do as well) and one time even pointed out a really well known Muslim scholar, who was dining there one day, to us. I didn't even recognize the scholar, but the owner did.
That's why the sister's questioning the halal status of the restaurant is really uncalled for. I guess she didn't read the review, of the owner himself, posted on February 21, 2006. Also the owner and the staff will tell you that the food is halal.
The first time a server, upon seeing my hijab, told me, without me asking, of the one thing, at the time (back in 2009), on the menu that was not halal. The staff, whether Muslim or not is really knowledgeable. The menu online at the bottom says "All meats at Café Grillades are Halal. We feature a healthy, alcohol-free atmosphere."
Halal means halal, zabihah, whatever you want to call eating only according to Islamic dietary laws. That's it. There should be no questioning and there should be no doubt when a restaurant out in the open declares it is halal. The staff openly tells you it is halal, the menu says it is halal, there is no alcohol served, there is a prayer area upon request, what more does one want?
It is unfair and without proof, it is also not conforming to Islamic guidelines about spreading rumors/lies.
Now back to the food:
I've brought family, friends, muslims, non-muslims, picky ones and they love the place. Last time I brought a friend who was also with her husband and small child. They are so particular, that if one thing is wrong, they will send the food back no matter what.
Well, this time was no different. My friend thought she ordered a crepe, but had ordered a panini (because only they come with the choice of salad or fries). When it came she sent it back, no fuss from the server. The server was completely understanding even though it was my friend who made the error and the food came back within a reasonable amount of time.
My suggestions:
Algiers Merguez, chicken pesto (panini or crepe), any of the strip steak ones. Both the buckwheat and flour crepes are wonderful (the fact that there is even a choice is pretty amazing). I love the flavored mayonnaise that comes with the fries. Also, dessert whether it be gelato or a sweet crepe is nice. The one I had most recently and loved was the mango brulee. ★☆☆☆☆ This is the first time I have ever left a review for anything but I felt compelled to after my experience with this place.
Based on the rave reviews, my husband and I went out of our way to visit this establishment during our trip to San Francisco. To say the very least, we were extremely disappointed. Before heading there, I called here to make sure that they were serving actual Zabihah meat since we encountered much shadiness on this matter at other establishments in SF such as Supremo Pizza. A lady answered the phone and when I asked her about the meat, she was unbelievaly rude to me and said "all of the meat is halal!" I then specified that I was asking if the meat was Zabihah, not just the ambiguous "halal". She again repeated "I don't know what you're talking about, all the meat is halal!" I then asked her where they buy their meat from and her response was "I don't have time to answer your questions" and abruptly hung up on me. As offended I was, I called back hoping to speak to someone else because let's face it, I wanted some halal crepes!! Thankfully, a gentlemen picked up and told me "All of our meat comes from a halal supplier and I apologize for the lady you spoke to before". I wasn't completely satisfied but still we made the trek via the BART and walked an entire mile uphill to the restaurant. We ordered the New York and the strawberry/nutella with mocha gelato. The savory crepe was extremely bland and under-seasoned but we were starving and tired so we sprinkled some salt and scarfed it down. Sadly, the dessert crepe was also subpar with random globs of nutella in an undercooked crepe and the accompanying gelato dense and yucky. Our flight out of SF was soon after so we also ordered the Algiers mergeuz panini to go which was also terrible and a ripoff...again, globs of mayo, some tomatoes and lettuce, and 3 thin strips of sausage (!!!!!) in a big focaccia. Overall the husband and I were very disappointed but he was a good sport and didn't say anything since he knew how much I love crepes and how badly I wanted to try this place and he is even stricter than me when making sure about Zabiha meat. No doubt that this establishment is questionable when it comes to that based on the two very different responses I got from the people running this place. Posted on July 15, 2011 |

★★★★★ mashallah, one of the BEST halal places in the bay... the customer service is excellent, very warm, welcoming and inviting. the food is excellent, especially the grillades burger with halal beef bacon. the dessert gelatos are excellent, as are the coffees/teas. i highly recommend this place! only thing is that it closes a bit earlier than other restaurants, so try to plan ahead and get there early. ★★★★★ So this is what I've been missing out on all this time! Finally, a place where I can try halal savoury crepes! This little gem of a restaurant is heaven sent! Their menu is extensive with lots of different types of breakfasts, sweet & savoury crepes and tasty gelato's. My husband and I went late on a Saturday night and inside there weren't too many cusomers at the time, but in the outside seating area there were hijabi's eating away. Immediately I felt reassured that this place would be good. Inside, the decor was my kinda thing - lots of coffee and mocha pictures with a very European vibe to it. Our waitress Caroline was extremely helpful in helping us decide on dinner and dessert. We were really pleased to see that not only is everything halal, but most things were organic and freshly made, some were gluten free and even dairy free. You just have to ask and they're happy to tailor it to your needs. We tried the Lentil Soup, the Poulet crepe, the chicken kebab, and the red berries crepe with mocha gelato. Everything was fresh and tasted amazing! It just doesn't get any better than this! Can't wait to go back and try their breakfasts! I think we've definately found a new local haunt! ★★★★★ This is THE place to have dessert crepes!! went there the night we landed in San Fran. The savory crepes were good (I chose to have them in organic buckwheat since i like the earthy flavour to it) but what really made us eat twice at this place during our short stay were the dessert crepes. We tried the nutella and strawberry, nutella and banana, banana crepe brule and strawberry crepe brule; they were all so good that i cant even choose one as a favourite! Do have the scoop of gelato for that extra flavor with the dessert crepes. The people who served us were really friendly too and helped pick out the good stuff from the menu. The Muslim lady behind the counter was specially helpful and let us try stuff before we could pick out what we wanted to eat. Will definitely go there if i'm in San Fran again! ★★★★★ I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu! My favorite are their crepes. I usually share half a savory and half a sweet crepe with someone, which is a perfect entree & dessert portion. Posted on May 14, 2010 |

★★★☆☆ Ordered steak with rice, and mango smoothie. Smoothie seemed to be devoid of much mango taste and was extremely sweet. Steak while succulent, was extremely small and definitely not worth the premium price. Would probably go there for the desserts - waffles and crepes looked peptizing. Posted on April 3, 2010 |

★★★★★ Despite the 30-odd mile drive, a name change and the disappearance of the orange crème smoothie, we are die hard loyal fans. How so? Jaan, you've drooled all over your pillow, what were you dreaming about? San Franciscan! Honey, what do you want for breakfast? San Franciscan!
Love, can you help me with the laundry? After we've had a San Franciscan! I rest my case.

★★★★☆ This is a very nice place that serves Algerian/French dishes. The place is clean, the staff is friendly. The prices are a little on the higer side. I asked if the meat is halal and they said everything except turkey is halal. They also said it is hard to find halal Turkey (I guess she meant halal Turkey ham. BTW I wonder how some halal Chinese restaurants can find and serve halal duck) Ham in their menu means turkey ham and is not halal. No alcohol served. I am not giving 5 stars for the non-halal turkey and the higher prices. Otherwise compared to many other muslim owned restaurants, the quality deserves 6 stars. Posted on January 7, 2008 |

|
★★★☆☆ I enjoyed every dish there except for this one time I ordered chicken breats on skewers and had 3 peices of chicken with lots of tomatoes and onions; the rest of the dish had salad. 3 pieces of chicken and the rest salal for $11 is not worth it! Everything else is great! Posted on April 25, 2007 |

★★★★☆ I've been here for breakfast, and it's a very nice and cozy place. The waitress is very attentive and friendly. The food is nice and if you prefer to eat non-desi food, than this is the place to visit. Posted on March 23, 2007 |

★★★★★ I have been going to this place for three years. I cannot say enough good things about the staff and the quality of the food. I am always highly satisfied to to see the taste, style, variety, and caring end to end execution. Also with courtesy and customer service on the decline in many areas, I am further delighted to see the maturity and sincerity of the staff and can only guess that there is some effort by the management to bring this about. I have been there again recently for several lunch time and dinner time visits and always feel as if I have a creative caring chef at my disposal during visits to the Peninsula. ★★★★★ We went to your restaurant last night and were a little confused about the name change as we had not visited zabihah.com and saw the posting about the name change...but we asked the wait staff and they said everything was the same--same owner and still halal so we again enjoyed our favorites for dinner. Thank you so much for creating such a warm and inviting restaurant with great HALAL food. It really is worth the drive from Sunnyvale up to San Bruno. We also appreciate the friendly staff and the food is always excellent! Posted on May 7, 2006 |

NR AssalamU Alaikum,
I am the owner of La creperie Du Monde, I would like to apologize for the confusion regarding Pork. Our new server was probably confused on what Halal is and thought that Ham is Pork or that we serve pork.Aagin Ham does not mean pork , it is the way the meat is processed, our ham is Halal turkey ham. Let me say that we have never serve any pork in our restaurant , all the meat is Halal and only Allah know the trouble we go through getting Halal meat even thoug 98% of our customers are non muslims. Just to give an example; Halal beef bacon cost about $4.75 per pound compared to pork bacon that only cost$.99.
I would have loved for see is at least a phone call to ask for the owner or managment to confirm that we do sell pork before posting such a review that is read by thousounds of people.
I would like to thank all those who supported us and come all the way from far distances to enjoy a meal at our restaurant.
We will be changing the name to " Cafe Grillades" starting 2/28/06 and will soon open our second location in Hayes Valley, San Francisco InshaAllah.Check our webiste for grand opening www.cafegrillades.com.
Thnak you wassalauAalikum Posted on February 21, 2006 |

★★★☆☆ My friend and I came all the way from Oakland to the restaurant and found that the restaurant serves PORK. The waitress says they keep the ham separate, but they serve it nonetheless. I don't know if they clean utensils/pans that come in contact with the ham. We were disappointed. Posted on November 21, 2005 |

★★★☆☆ Haven't been here yet but researched it's Halal Authenticity. Talked to the owner (seems a very polit person)and he verified that they get their chicken and beef from Indus in Berkeley and their turkey and other product from Extel Corporation (East West Foods) in Sacaramento. Both are very well know Halal outlets. He also clarified my doubts about the Ham on his menu saying that Ham is not pork but it's the way it is processed and the Ham mentioned on his menu is of Turkey (East West). I am really looking forward to going to this place- Inshallah. Posted on March 25, 2004 |

★★★★★ Had a chicken crepe, and a beef steak. Chicken crepe, was absolutely out of this world. Beef steak was just a bit on the dry side. But the dessert was excellent, took me to heaven (the caramel coffee ice cream crepe). Its is a great place. I wish we had more zabihah options like this, where they serve american or european food. We have too many desi or afghan resturuants which isnt bad.. but american muslims tend to crave what we cant get easily, like this resturaunt Posted on March 11, 2004 |

★★★★★ This place is ALL THAT! and a bag of chips! Don't be fooled by the name. They serve more than just crepes (although their crepes are outta this world!) TRY the cheeseburger and fries. It is sooooo good. For dessert, I strongly suggest the white chocolate with toasted almonds crepe -- of course with a side of ice cream. I drove out here all the way from the east bay and will continue to give this place my business as much as I can, Insha-Allah. The decor is very neat and clean; not your typical Muslim owned establishment (sorry to stereotype, but it's true!) Posted on February 21, 2004 |

★★★☆☆ This place serves delicious crepes and omlettes and smoothies. I would advise against their steak and chicken dishes. Posted on January 18, 2004 |

★★★★★ Excellent savory and sweet crepes. They don't overdue it with the whipped cream or sugar, so you can enjoy the flavors in the sweet crepes. Owners are known well enough to have catered Zaytuna events. For those that don't like crepes (is that possible?), they have a cornucopia of other choices, as noted by other reviewers on this page. ★★★★☆ "Cool beans. Muslim crepe place. Not quite as good as the one in the Mission across from the drag strip club (16th and Galvez), but this one is zabihah. Big difference. The panini sandwiches are great; reminds me of Echo in South Park (SF). BTW, asked about the meat and was told it was kosher (I'm assuming the waitress meant halal because she seemed a tad confused about what to call it)." Posted on March 23, 2002 |
