★☆☆☆☆ I have been to this place multiple times, all of them per invitations to party/dinner being held at the restaurant. Food is so so quality, their chapli kabobs were good though.
Recently they ran a groupon, but would not honor it as on a Sunday as they only serve their buffet and won't even let you order from the menu, they should have clearly indicated this in their fine print. Customer service is non existent, waiters are rude, the owner/manager lady who sits up front, super rude and not an ounce of customer service to accommodate and make a customer happy. I would stay away from this place. Posted on December 9, 2014 |

★★☆☆☆ I had a party here and I was v disappointed . What their practice is when u go to pay the bill , they give u bill for double the number of people that u booked for . Now that all people have left , u have no proof how many people came so u just have to pay hundreds of dollars extra . I mentioned this to my friends and they all said that lalqila did this to them also . Posted on July 7, 2014 |

★★★☆☆ The place layout is good. The food quality is very average and prices are high compared to the quality. We tried Nihari, Kabab and Chicken Handi and did not like any of these items. Posted on July 6, 2013 |

★★★★☆ Food is definitely good.nihari doesn't compare to other nihari places such as Devon,Chapli kabobs are very good. The okra and spinach dishes are very good as well. The location is kind of outside of mainstream area, but worth the trip. Posted on February 7, 2013 |

★★★★☆ Pretty decent food. Nothing like the Lal Qila back home in Pakistan haha but still pretty good. Good venue for parties and events. Their chicken pakorays snapp. Recommended! Posted on July 3, 2012 |

★★★★★ Excellent food and service. The chapli kababs just melt in your mouth and have the perfect amount of spicyness to it. the butter chicken is perfect. The whole family loved it. The best desi restaurant in the suburbs in my opinion. They also have a banquet hall for event as well. Posted on February 11, 2012 |

★★★☆☆ We went there on two occussions once on Sat and once on Sunday in the month of Sep 2011. On sat i had to pay per person around $10 and $15 plus tax on Sunday. But annoying thing was there was no goat or lamb dish available on both Sat and Sunday and when i asked them they replied to order it as an extra item. Another wierd thing was that they added the tip of $5 even without asking/approval of us and when i asked about it they told that it is mandantory here to pay this tip dependign on percentage of your bill (normally tip is based upon the service level you recieve which was crappy), anyways we did not want to argue with them upon it and paid whatver they were asking for. I will probably go to another place next time. Posted on September 26, 2011 |

★☆☆☆☆ I just moved the area, from Toronto. I regularly follow zabihah.com to see local businesses in my area and I was thrilled to see that a halal restaurant was close to my home. We went there with my in-laws and I am very disappointed. The décor inside was lovely, the outside is a little deceiving – near to a liquor store. The food really did taste old. The meat tasted like it had been cooked and re-used to make different dishes. I did not meet the owner but I did ask the server about it. Even my mother-in-law said the saalan had an old taste to it. it might have been the oil? I will continue to try other eateries in the area but I do not think that I will be coming back here. NR My name is Sana, i'm the owner of Lal Qila and manage the restaurant. After reading some reviews, I wanted to provide some feedback on what I've been reading.
We do try try provide the best possible customer service and atmosphere for our customers when you come to our restaurant. If anyone ever has an issue we are very accomdating.
I have been reading some reviews, some of which, I don't really believe and seem to be some competitors way to hurt our business.
We do not serve old food,we serve fresh food on our buffets every day, our buffets are very popular and when it comes to refills and customer needs we strive do our best.
Reading reviews about the chicken tikka masala, being old and burnt, seems very over exaggerated. We do not serve old chicken in our food, everything we make is fresh, and if a customer does have an issue we are always ready to take care of them when they call us.
I had to chime in here, because it seems that a lot of the information I'm reading seems over exaggerated and not true. And, I wanted to provide our customers that read this some feedback on these reviews.
If anyone has any questions or concerns please feel free to call me. Posted on January 18, 2011 |

★☆☆☆☆ i will never return to this restaurant. I would give this restaurant an overall 1/5 stars. There are other places near by that are cheaper, better service, and over all better tasting food. I recommend using this place as a last resort when looking for a halal place to eat. Save yourself the trouble and eat elsewhere. Posted on January 10, 2011 |

★★☆☆☆ the butter chicken had tandoori chicken pieces in it. i asked them why is that..they stated that they cook the chicken first, then use it it the gravy to make butter chicken. i stated, you mean to tell me that you cook tandori chicken first, then remove the meat of the bones and then use that to make the butter chicken. the reply was yes. then i noticed them taking the left over chicken from another table to back so they can clean the table...i asked if they used left over chicken and he did not reply back, and stated if i did not like it i could order something else...NOT HAPPY. AND NOW I WANT TO KNOW WHY THE CHICKEN PIECE INSIDE MY BUTTER CHICKEN HAS A "SKEWER" HOLE AND IS BURNED BECAUSE THATS HOW THEY LOOK COMING OFF A SKEWER IN A TANDOOR!!!!! ANY OTHERS OUT THERE. NOT HAPPY!!!!!!!!!! Posted on January 6, 2011 |

★★★★★ I don't get what people are complaining about. I have been here 3-4 times and I (as well as all my guest) love the food every time. Hands down there is no desi restaurant like this in chicagoland. All other indo/pak restaurants are dirty and not a good atmosphere. Lal Qila is beautifully decorated has amazing food and its zabiha halal! I highly recommend Sunday brunch and sunday dinner buffet. Posted on November 24, 2010 |

★★★★★ I must admit after reading some negative reviews about this place, I was hesitant to go. However, I decided I would give it a try, and let me tell you I really enjoyed it. I honestly do not understand why people say the food is not good. I have not been to a restaurant like this one. I came on a wednesday afternoon for lunch buffet with a few friends. The buffet was good had a nice variety after we got our food our waiter brought us fresh naan and sizzling chicken tikkah to our table. Everything was delicious and the place is very well maintained. I really suggest that you go thee and try it for yourself ...I am eager to go again. Posted on November 24, 2010 |

★☆☆☆☆ I went to this place a few weeks ago. I was not impressed at all. The food we had tasted fine but the portions were downright ridiculous. Upon making a complaint, there was absolutely no recourse. In fact, the woman behind the cashier who might have been the manager was belligerent. I think these people are too focused on the money and the decor but not on their customers. There are MUCH better options not far away...go there. Posted on November 17, 2010 |

★☆☆☆☆ DO NOT CATER FROM THIS RESTAURANT:
For my brother's valima this past summer, we didn't go with our usual caterers on Devon and went this Lal Qila because the owners are family friends of our new in-laws. Though they actually asked for FULL payment (we've done 3 weddings and numerous events in the past and this was NEVER asked for) we didn't think anything of it because of the friendship so we paid fully weeks before the Valima.
Come the Valima day, when the food is being delivered my uncle noticed there was far too little chicken and kabobs but too much spinach and rice. He said something to the owners (who were at our event as guests) but was rebuffed quite rudely. Of course, as expected the chicken and kabobs (which were cut into 1 inch pieces btw) ran out before people had even gotten 1 plate, let alone 2! It was absolutely mortifying.
Worst of all, the owners do nothing to rectify the situation and sneak out of the valima...they actually left...no phone call, no discussion they just left. At some point, we get a phone call after dinner is over about sending more food but my father, rightfully angry, said no way, dinners over, you ruined our event. In their credit, they still did drop off some food...but MORE spinach and rice!! Even the bread ran out...and that never happens.
Ultimately, we paid for 350 heads and I guesstimate we got enough food for maybe 200.
Post event, there was silence on their end until MY parents called them. There was some meager attempt to refund some of the money (still not enough for those who went hungry)...but the CC refund NEVER CAME THROUGH.
Because of the friendship with our new in-laws, we had kept this all quiet but at this point, we give up and are warning any and all Chicago families who want to have a decent, dignified event NOT TO CATER FROM THIS RESTAURANT...If they treat their friends this way, one can infer how they'd treat customers... ★★★★★ Excellent time for dinner! I was there on Wednesday with a group of 30, great service and great improvment on food. It's better and better! Great deal to, it was buy 2 dinner entrees get one free! Posted on December 18, 2009 |

★★★★☆ The decor was nice, the service is the same as pretty much any other desi restaurant (okay). The food was really good, as part of the buffet (well priced,) I went at lunch time and at Ramadan for iftar, both times the food was really good. I have gone once outside the buffet times, and it was not good, even though it's more expensive than the buffet. I would recommend going there during their buffet times ($10 or $14,) enjoy the decor. ★☆☆☆☆ The decor is nice and one doesn't come out of this place smelling like a bag of spices. Those are the only positive aspects to this place. The service has to be the worse that I have experienced in a desi rest. To be more accurate it is non existent. The food is below average and they are really slow in refilling the buffet dishes. No one will ever come to your table and ask if you are doing OK. They always seem to be short staffed even though you have to book for the buffet in advance and put up a deposit. It seems that they just dont care about the customers. Posted on September 24, 2009 |

★☆☆☆☆ I go a week ago, and the resturant experience very bad. Decoration was beuty, but food was really bad. Lots of oils and foods was not tasty. It was bad. The waitering service was really bad too. Tall guy who was the waiter was slow, and not very friendly. The food was very costly. The food came in late. We wait avery long time for naan to come. Food is expensive, and not much meat in the dish. Don't go here and go somewhere else or save your money and make at home. Posted on July 28, 2009 |

★★☆☆☆ the decor was nice but the food was mediocre. Biryani looked and tasted like it was from 2 days ago and was microwaved. quantities of food was very small for the prices listed. I Don't plan on going back anytime soon Posted on July 25, 2009 |
