La Sophia |
|
46 Golborne Road, Kensington & Chelsea, Greater London W10 5PR
Located near London's fashionable Portobello Road, La Sophia restaurant may at first glance look like the fine French bistros that many Muslims would like to sample but can't. However, La Sophia is a rare exception. Featuring most classic French dishes like Confit de Canard, Tournedos Rossini or Escargots de Bourgogne, La Sophia is 100% halal, even down to the rabbit and foie gras. Opened by a chef who has worked with Gordon Ramsay and others, La Sophia adds their own touch to French classics - for example Argan oil with its unique nutty taste, chocolate balsamic, and Pastis mustard. The clientele on any given day are largely non-Muslim diners who know their French cuisine - as good as an endorsement of authenticity as an ethnic eatery packed with recent immigrants. But for a Muslim diner looking for a window into one of the world's most celebrated cuisines, you could do no worse than a table at La Sophia. Added on November 25, 2010 and last updated 8 years ago

★★★☆☆ For halal French food this is a place worth considering a visit. Food is tasty and nicely presented albeit a little pricey for the portion sizes and the area in my opinion. Posted on January 2, 2014 |

★★★★★ The place is definitely fancy and the food is amazing. But yes the only draw back is the bar. :S But I do wish we had more places like this in America. Posted on May 29, 2013 |

★★☆☆☆ Having booked a table on the phone because I was told it was halal and run by muslims, I was deeply disappointed to turn up with my wife and be confronted with a large well-stocked bar as soon as you walk on. Yes the meat may well be 'halal', but i refuse to patronise restaurants run by muslims which serve alcohol. Posted on April 7, 2013 |
Our upcoming site upgrade will allow you to filter out restaurants that serve alcohol. |
Dear rzahmed: Thank you for your feedback and making the time to write your review. It's very disappointing to receive a comment like this. At La Sophia we work hard to communicate our message of being an 'entire halal menu'. As we offer halal French food, we often receive many calls asking if we are halal? We ensure to try and get the message across -The food is entirely halal, ie all meats, no alcohol or pork traces are entered into the kitchen or in the food. If asked if we sold alcohol at the restaurant we would always mention we do sell alcohol at the restaurant. It may have been misunderstood or from our end not communicated clear enough. We also make note of this on our web site. We do apologies for your experience and for the message to not been clear. You're welcome to try the take away service if you did want to try the food. You will get to taste halal French cuisine cooked and prepared at a high standard. We also respect if you choose not to try our food at all. Kind regards, Sousan |

★★★★★ We were a group of 20 people. Majority had halal diet requirement. I came across this web site to help me choose the restaurant for our group dinner.
La Sophia is one of those hidden places that one feels blessed to have discovered. Food is amazingly good. On the menu there is something for everyone. The Prie Fixe menu is excellent value there is a good selection of starters & mains you could choose from. The staff was helpful from the start, and had organised the dining room well. All the party have mentioned what a great evening it was and how good the food was. My guests were impressed and I think I was double surprised as I was not expecting this well above average. ★★★★☆ I wasn't impressed when I walked in, the atmosphere of the restaurant is a bit shabby (for its price range) and the area it's located in is not great. However, the meal was fantastic. The lamb I ordered was succulent and tender, it is very hard to find this kind of food in halal restaurants.
I would definitely recommend it to any Muslims looking to try good (and halal!) French cuisine, just don't come with high expectations of the restaurant's looks. I really wish we could see more halal restaurants of this type closer to Central London. Posted on September 26, 2012 |
Thank you very much for your feedback and positive comments. We work hard to offer good Halal French & Mediterranean food and friendly, efficient service, and its lovely to hear you enjoyed the cuisine. Your right there should be more restaurants that offer high standards cooked & prepared of halal cuisine.
I will pass your feedback on to the team, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Kind regards
Sousan

★★★☆☆ Sorry, we thought it was only average. Posted on July 15, 2012 |

★★★★☆ I was really eager to try London's first and only French Fine dining restaurant and it did not disappoint.
In line with high end places the menu was very limited but had lots of good quality exotic halal meats to try - Ostrich, Rabbit, Snails, Ox Tail, etc. They also had 'halal Champagne' and black Truffles for good measure.
The staff are very friendly, the owner is a nice man who used to work for work famous chefs.
The prices will be a bit too high if it was not for the TopTable 50% off offer.
Be warned ! French food is not for everybody (my wife hated it), it can be bland and meat quite raw. Ask the waiting staff what the French words mean, if your not sure. Posted on September 21, 2011 |

★★★★★ What a fantastic discovery! Halal French so we tried it for the Itfar buffet which was more of a Mediterranean buffet but you can order off their a la carte which includes more French dishes. We were a group of 22 on a Sunday evening and found La Sophia on this web site. The food was excellent, the portions were generous, great buffet with a price tag of £17.95 includes a drink and, best of all, the service was exceptional. Very good value for money and we felt very welcome. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody looking for high quality food and service that is different, without the high price tag with the food being all halal. Posted on August 11, 2011 |

★★★★★ Amazing at last there is a French Halal restaurant we can go to some where different not the usual type of cuisine that is halal. Unbelievably good food. Everything we had was the perfect portion size and tasted phenomenal. Service was excellent –warm friendly and knowledgeable.. It’s expensive though but you pay for what it’s worth the quality of the food, and the friendly warm welcome in service. I tried rabbit and duck where is my husband and our friends tried the lamb and pigeon there menu is halal and all so good. The deco is lovelyl. Great restaurant to add in London. Looking forward to returning and telling my family & friends about. Posted on February 18, 2011 |
