★★★★★ Went there with my husband last week for out anniversary, we were very impressed with the dining area and the cozy atmosphere. The place was packed yet the service was great, our waiter was nice and professional. We went for iftar, yet the food came out really quickly. We got complementary lemonade which was delish. The wings to start in the Brazilian sauce were the best wings we had ever had, we both ordered NY strip steak mine in medium rare and my husbands in well done. Both were perfectly cooked and the fries were delicious too. Will definitely come back. Posted on July 5, 2015 |

★★★★★ This restaurant really surprised me - I was quite impressed with the food and the quality of the finishings and was even more impressed when I learned the restaurant isn’t a chain.
I visited with my family yesterday - the restaurant is located in Scarborough which is far for us and I was sceptical about yet another halal restaurant trying to put out good food. The food was delicious. Our table ordered sweet potato fries, Black Ox poutine, beef wellington, stuffed chicken and Panang curry. Wow! I’ve never had beef wellington before and lets just say I’m addicted. The restaurant was a little short staffed but the manager was great and seemed to have things under control and our server was polite and attentive. Posted on May 5, 2015 |

★★★★★ Tried Black Ox for the first time last week. We went as a group of 5 and we were all very impressed. The manager came by and chatted with us and that put the service over the top for us especially since the restaurant was so busy. The food was delicious and our entire group was very impressed. I ordered sweet potato fries, a mojito, philly cheese steak sandwich and cheese cake for dessert. Our group ordered everything ranging from chicken to steak. Only negative was that the booth was too small for 5 people but we were forewarned so its partially our fault for trying to squeeze ourselves in. All in all, we left happy, will certainly return. ★★★★★ I have visited this restaurant twice already and this is my only time to post a remark here... I wouldn't mind spending a little time to just say, "Thank You, Black Bistro!" for the wonderful night I had with the place. It was the place where I and my fiancee got engaged that night... and the place was just remarkable. The staff even helped me orchestrated the whole plan I had...
We celebrated with a wonderful special menu they provided us. And what can i say, those guys are the best! The ambience was perfect really... its a classy resto for Muslims like me. My fiancee and I are even planning to come back soon in this special place... VERY SOON!! Posted on March 30, 2015 |

★★★★★ I went there for dinner. My partner ordered the New York 10 oz steak. The meat was dry aged 28 days and we weren't disappointed. It was cooked exactly to order and the flavor was very enjoyable. I ordered the penne carbonara and the portion was civilized and flavorful. The staff was attentive but not pushy. I would eat here again. Posted on September 29, 2016 |

★★★★★ Went to Black Ox Bistro for dinner and really enjoyed the experience. Nice restaurant. The service was impeccable and the food was memorable. I enjoyed an excellent steak. I recommend this restaurant and will return. Posted on September 22, 2016 |

★★★★★ My husband and I had dinner at Black Ox Bistro on a Monday evening last month. The atmosphere was elegant and quiet. We shared two appetizers and enjoyed them both. Our entrées were filet mignon and new york striploin. Both we ordered medium rare and it was served appropriately. My husband's portion of striploin was quite large. Definitely will come back! ★★★★★ Went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Not too busy. Restaurant was very clean. The place is attractive with a modern ambience. Staff was friendly and attentive. Service is in a league of its own. The flatbreads are wonderful as an appetizer. I had the philly cheesesteak and the portion size was fairly big. My wife had the juicy luicy and as its name stands, it was thick and juicy. Had we told them it was our anniversary, we would have been given a piece of pie. Oh well, maybe next time. Great choice for dining. Posted on September 3, 2016 |

★★★★★ Black Ox Bistro is a very nice restaurant. The food and service were outstanding. We were in a bit of a hurry because we had a movie to catch so our waiter managed to get us our food and drinks quickly so we could enjoy our lunch and get out on time. I have been here seven times now – LOL. I love it here. will visit again for sure!! Posted on August 28, 2016 |

★★★★★ The atmosphere was great, good service as well. We went for lunch got seats no waiting. the waiter was excellent, he gave us space to talk and eat and did not bother us throughout the meal. That's a plus for me. The food came on time and in order, there was time space between appetizer and entree. I recommend this place for the steaks. Best in town! Posted on August 9, 2016 |

★☆☆☆☆ Not sure where to begin. This restaurant is a sad story, and to top it off, some of the business partners of this restaurant are from Halalfoodie. I thought they would’ve had a better market insight on quality, however, it was nowhere close to savory.
Food – ordered the poutine with pulled meat; the meat was smelly and felt old, just covered with sauce! Next, main course was rack of beef ribs with side of Caesar salad (additional ~$4 or so) – caesar salad was missing caesar, it literally felt like cut and paste, the lettuce was soggy, with a bit of cheese spread on top – the salad was not even tossed or mixed with any dressing, it was pale and bland! Ribs was filled with fat 90%, and it was more bone than rib meat – imagine getting a 4 inch drumstick, but the meat is only 10%. The plate even came with mashed potatoes – which was essentially a scoop of real/unreal potatoes (just like you get 1 scoop of an ice-cream), with no flavor, nor did it have basic ingredients (i.e. seasoning, butter, pepper). When asked to the server why the mashed potatoes don’t have any taste, response “…this is how our mashed potatoes taste”
The ambience of this place is great, however, if you are going to pay $50 on average for 1 person on a meal, I don’t think it’s worth the visit and or the ambience, unless quality is significantly improved, or the owners/chef need to go back to the drawing board and rejig the whole menu. I’ve heard similar comments from family and friends, however, upon trying it myself, I was convinced that this was definitely not a restaurant worth spending your money. Posted on July 4, 2016 |

★★★☆☆ Went here with 4 other people for Sahoor in Ramadhan. It wasn't packed and the place was clean and possesses a beautiful decor. Washrooms were spic and span as well. The service was top-notch. The brother that waited on us was courteous and helpful. As for the food, we ordered various chicken, fettucine and rib entrees and weren't thoroughly impressed with the portions in relation to the price paid. We still felt hungry after having our meals. The chicken dishes were done nicely and tasted great. The ribs weren't as plentiful as imagined and almost 35% of was fat. You have to kick yourself if you don't compare this place with Affy's which have prices that are lower and they give more food with almost (if not more) the same type of quality. With that in mind, for someone from the West end, not worth the drive again here, but good experience and wishing the management team nothing but the best of luck. Posted on June 28, 2016 |

★★★★★ Wow I cannot say enough good things about the dinner we had at Black Ox Bistro. We dined on the churrasqueira wings (to die for), filet mignon and grilled garlic butter jumbo shrimp. The meal was a 20/10. The filet mignon literally melted in your mouth and it is served with a creamy cafe de paris butter. I am literally drooling as I write this review. SOOOO good. Definite return trip. Posted on December 27, 2015 |

★★★★★ This place has slowly become one of my favourite place, it honestly is the only "premium" Halal restaurant in town, great place to take family, guests and non Muslim friends. The food is different than our normal Halal desi joints and the service has improved drastically over the past few months. A little pricey but that's obvious. My recommendation to leave some room for dessert, I know it will be hard here with their delicious and unique menu but it will be worth it especially if you order the Mango mousse. 5 out of 5 for me. Enjoy! Posted on December 18, 2015 |

★★★★☆ I went here with my wife on a recent trip. We have been to other nice steakhouses, but this one really impressed us. The service was impeccable, and the food was amazing. We both had fillets with jumbo shrimp with garlic butter (wow!). We also had salads (a caesar salad and a special which was a grilled chicken with romaine hearts and herbed croutons). I don't have anything negative to say about our experience. Posted on November 27, 2015 |

★★★★★ We visited Black Ox for a late dinner seating, following an awesome day in the city. We were seated immediately, and drinks were served nearly immediately. We were shown the Black Ox's meat offerings, and soon after we were dining on our steaks. My wife ordered the Rib Eye and I had the filet mignon. Our steaks were cooked perfectly. Flavorful, tender, juicy, and delicious. We had lobster tail with lemon herb butter as our side. The food was delicious. The portions are gargantuan and are best shared. Posted on November 19, 2015 |

★★★★★ Made reservations when visiting this joint. It was great. Walking distance from my home. I love the location. It can be romantic and for business all in one. I enjoyed my meal -- I got the Filet Mignon cooked medium and side of aged basmati rice. Make a reservation and enjoy fine dining at its best. Posted on October 25, 2015 |

★★★☆☆ Ambiance of the restaurant is good but food is not worth the money. Had Philly cheese steak which was kind of dry, kids burger was horrible and felt like it was not even beef. No refills on soft drink. If I compare it with Affy's premium grill, Affy's is way way better than this restaurant. Posted on October 24, 2015 |

★★★★☆ Good food, prices are on the higher side however, but perhaps that's due to the amazing ambience and level of service they have to offer. We tried their wings as mentioned in other reviews and there was nothing too special about them to call them 'best wings in toronto'. Overall a great experience and a good place to take that special someone with you as your wallet is gonna feel it. Posted on October 23, 2015 |

★☆☆☆☆ I'm so sorry to say this but this is by far the worst managed restaurant I have ever went to. The first time my wife and I went here we thought that it's a new restaurant and that was the reason for the countless mistakes that were being made. I talked my wife into giving them another chance because it really is a beautiful place. But unfortunately 7 months after... It is still the same and maybe worst because this time the "manager" came to justify the mistake. Our food was below room temp and what we ordered certainly didn't match what we received and the food needed a lot more flavour for our taste. I am posting this comment in the hope that the owners will see this and make some changes before we loose another beautiful halal restaurant. Unfortunately I don't think my family or myself will ever eat here again and as of now I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to any of my friends or family. Posted on July 28, 2015 |

NR Very bad experience from the word "Go" arrived the place 5 minutes before the reserved time and kept on waiting to be seated for next 15 minutes
No one was manning the reception counter , finally a lame excuse was tabled by saying "sorry we didn't see you".
More than needed hype is there , these are the initial inputs basis on the saying First Impression is the Last Impression
Will never recommend to anyone who loves to follow time lines Posted on July 14, 2015 |

★★☆☆☆ I ordered philly cheese sandwich with fries-taste was ok but nothing over the top to recommend to friends-cost me $17 -had to wait about 20 minutes to get my order.i didnt get anything with my order no napkins,no ketchup and the sandwich was actually really small for $17 -where I normally get my philly sandwich it cost me around 10 -it is double the size-this is the first time I visited black ox maybe my last Posted on June 4, 2015 |

★★★★★ We went to Black Ox as a family few weeks ago for mothers day and we had a wonderful experience in this place. The staff was really attentive and the food was delicious. My mom doesn't dine out often but she said to our server she'll be back for Eid. This is not just a nice place - its a well thought and caring restaurant.
Good job Black Ox! Posted on May 25, 2015 |

★★★★★ I decided to check this place out and judging by all the positive reviews and the strong Facebook following and the packed dining halls I can tell I was right in ignoring some of the fake negative reviews here.
Let me start off by saying that I was very excited about this place opening since the winter. I really think our community is ready for a place of this caliber. Everything is done at a much higher level and its about time
I arrived around 7:30 on Friday night with my family, I was greeted by a warm hostess who showed me to my seat with no wait time. I scanned the room which had amazing decor, modern lighting and spectacular seating and tables. I couldnt believe this was a Muslim place.
All the guests looked so happy and were clearly enjoying their food so I couldnt wait to get started. The waitress attended to us immediately and was super polite, always smiling and was able to answer all of my questions.
I ordered some specialty craft sodas ($3) and the wings to start. These were BY FAR the BEST wings I have ever had. The brazilian sauce was awesome ($12) typical price for wings.
The much anticipated steak is what I was waiting for. I ordered the filet mignon and I had it medium rare - the best way to have it. Lots of hype in the community about this being the best halal steak in Toronto? Well it lived up to the hype folks. It was just AMAZING! It came just the way I like it and I was blown away. I paid $3 extra for the premium mushroom sauce and I was very happy I did. Best halal steak in Toronto indeed.
I was very happy with how fast everything came out and all the prices are the same as you would find at a Milestones or Moxies.
I also inquired and all the meat is hand slaughtered from HMA sources which for me at least is super important.
Finally our community has a place to be extremely proud of - I know where I am going for all my special events from now on. Posted on May 8, 2015 |

★★★☆☆ Went with my wife for the first time. Very impressed with the dining area and the cozy atmosphere. Waiter was nice and professional. Ordered one of their most expensive dish "The King Rib". Was served in 15-20 mins. Don't mind the wait coz it takes time for a 2.5lb rib to cook.
Food arrived...looked really good..We tasted and it was stone cold from the inside. Me and my wife looked at each other and decided we are never coming back.
I cannot deny that their Piña colada was superb. Loved the fries too. Not going back as our first impression didn't go well. Posted on April 30, 2015 |

★★★★★ Went to eat week night with family. Ordered New york steak, philly cheese and chicken sandwich. Steak was really and good size but have to remember their medium was well medium so order accordingly. Philly cheese was really good but chicken sandwich was bland and card board tasting .. some cheese or sauce would have done good things to it. The service was good and manager came by to greet us. We will be visiting it again soon. BTW the fries were better than Affeys .. Posted on April 25, 2015 |

★★★★★ I came to this place about two months ago when they first opened and I had an excellent time then and so this time my fiancee wanted to come with me so I figured I would try it out again. This is not just a nice place - this is by far the ABSOLUTE BEST halal steakhouse in GTA. Period!
I read a bunch of reviews here - half are very positive and half are exaggeratedly negative. The point is people need to make up their own minds. One thing no one denies is the place is always full which means there are tons of repeat customers and happy customers telling their friends as I have been doing. So you definitely need to make reservations. If the negative reviews were real that wouldn't be the case. Maybe when they first opened they had some issues which is very normal but I personally have always had a great experience.
Secondly the way that Yelp works is that they sort all the review by star so you have to go to the last page to read all the good reviews and work your way back from there.
Also they have 3,000 likes on Facebook and they just opened. That is thousands more than any halal restaurant and there are tons of positive comments on Facebook and amazing picture posts. Once again casting doubt on the negative reviews written by a certain jealous competitor.
First the service in the place was amazing. All of the staff are clearly very experienced and my server told me he worked at Milestones for many years so I can tell that not only do they have a lot of wait staff per table bu they also went out to hire the best of the best. You can by the service you get.
I ordered the black OX brisket poutine with quebec curds which was awesome ($10). I also ordered the Mango Lychee ($7) cocktail to start which was delicious and refreshing at the same time. Drink arrived in 5 minutes and poutine in 10 minutes. Awesome timing and a great start. The waiter kept coming by to chat and check up on us. Great service all the way through.
While I waited for my entrees I looked around at the ambiance. Now this is the type of place I have been waiting for my whole life. Amazing lighting, great cushy chairs like no where else, very expensive plates and expensive cutlery, real fabric napkins, hardwood flooring and modern full wood décor on all the walls. All while I sit on my sweet butcher block table. The lights were turned down dim. I felt like I was at a super fancy downtown steakhouse.
Just as the busser came to politely clear my table I could my steak coming out. Awesome timing.
I had ordered the NY striploin ($24) which is the same price as anywhere else along with a double baked potato. After my first bite I was in heaven. You can taste the quality in their AAA 28 day aged Canadian beef. Folks this is is steak quality you JUST DON'T GET ANYWHERE else. You taste the superior quality difference.
It is very suspicious that the competitors are showing up religiously every single day to post fake harsh negative reviews, there is no restaurant in the GTA that gets this many reviews. They already have half as many reviews as Ruth's Chris !
Honestly, my muslim brothers and sisters this is an amazing that you have to just try for yourself and be sold for life. Posted on April 23, 2015 |

★★★★★ I visited Black Ox with a group of 7 people yesterday. I shared with my sister - we started with Chipotle Flatbread, sliders and the Brisket poutine. Although there a few good choices for apps this was the second time we have ordered these items because they're soo good. I loved how big the Brisket portion is and the tenderness of the meat; there was enough food for almost all of us to have a bit to try.
Their spa spring salad is wonderful! I recommend asking for the dressing on the side so you can put on the amount you prefer. I had it with chicken added & loved it!
One of my male carnivore friends ordered the King ribs and he described it as 'love at first sight' - the dish was presented beautifully and also tasted awesome. This meat was also very tender and juicy Other faves at our table were the stuffed pasta, Chicken fettuccine, and all the steaks. Everyone really enjoyed the steaks. We had a fantastic time and the the staff was courteous and attentive.
My only issue is the prayer situation - I'm not sure why people insist on praying in the restaurant when there is a mosque up the street. The restaurant is small and people were trying to cram into a small corridor. I think management should tell people to pray in the front lobby or outside since the weather is warming up. I know we have to pray but people need to be courteous of the restaurant and other diners. Posted on April 21, 2015 |

★★☆☆☆ I visited this restaurant tonight with my husband, my sister in law, and her husband. From what is indicated online, we were expecting top class dining and exceptional food and service.
We ordered appetizers and drinks after just a few minutes of being seated. We waited about 8 minutes after we ordered before we were served water, and my sister in law waited about 15 minutes for the antioxidant smoothie she ordered.
For our main courses, my husband ordered a filet mignon steak with a lobster tail on the side. The lobster tail was $12 dollars extra. I ordered a filet mignon as well, and asked for my steak to be cooked as medium. When our food arrived, my husband’s lobster tail was the smallest I've ever seen. Once it was removed from the shell, there was less than 3" of lobster meat. For $12 it was an absolute rip off, and we were not pleased at all. The steak was also about 4" in diameter and at less than 1” thick; it was the smallest filet mignon we've had at a restaurant.
My steak was extremely dry and very stiff and it was done as a well done steak rather than medium. I told one of the servers, and he took it back to the kitchen and said they would remake it. I waited 16 minutes before I had my food brought back to me, and by this time everyone else had already finished eating. Once my new meal arrived, my steak still wasn't medium but rather medium well to well done. I didn't say anything, because it was better than the first steak, and I didn't want to wait again for another replacement. The sides that came with the meal were very tasty (Veggies and roasted mashed potatoes).
The steak was not what I would have expected for an "upscale steakhouse". I've been to other halal restaurants in the GTA that have served me the exact steak at a bigger portion, had a better taste, and for a much more reasonable price. Our dinner came up to $83 for 2 entrees and one appetizer. Considering the small size of the steaks and the lobster tail, it was not worth what we paid.
The service is also slow, especially considering that the restaurant was more than half empty. The restaurant was very clean and really beautiful inside. They really need to work on their service, and the chefs need to focus on the proper way to cook a steak when a customer requests certain doneness.
All in all, there are some positive parts of the restaurant, but clearly more negatives. It’s definitely not somewhere where we will be dining again. Posted on April 19, 2015 |

★★★★★ Went there on Thursday and it was a full house, I assume people kicked off the long weekend early. The wait times were good - it was about 10 min for salad and apps and a little bit longer for mains. The star of the night for me was the poutine and it was great - the brisket was tender and the curds tasted authentic. I also had a large order of the filet mignion - it was soft, buttery and cooked perfectly. My mom ordered the stuffed chicken and we were surprised at how large the order was - 2 people could have eaten that - suffice it to say she had lunch for the next day.
To summarize its a destination for warm service and happy full tummies. I suggest a few more hight chairs for kids, other than that I had a great time and wouldn’t change anything. Posted on April 19, 2015 |

★★★★★ My family and I booked a reservation for 15 people on a Saturday evening for 7.30 - The hostess l I spoke with indicated they could accommodate us more comfortably earlier at 6pm. When we arrived the place was quite busy, because our party had reserved in advance we had a good location in the dining hall. I brought a birthday cake and some decorations and they helped us look after both things - they even provided us with a table for us to display our gifts on. Everyone in our group really enjoyed the food and service - my cousin came earlier when it just opened and she had a long wait but decided to give it another shot. She was very happy and mentioned the place has made a 180. the service was excellent, considering the size of our group and the demands of each customer. The food was very enjoyable - the party got their food exactly as they asked. I ordered steaks and ribs and both were phenomenal! My only complaint is that they are so far from Oakville and the music was a little too loud where we were sitting.
Thanks to all the staff who made our party memorable. Posted on April 14, 2015 |

★★★★★ There are just so many great places in Toronto to eat and this definitely is one of them.
I came in the first week Black Ox opened and came again last weekend. During my first visit service was a little slow and things were a little disorganized, now a few weeks later things seem to be running much more smoothly. The servers seem like they could be a little more personable but the overall service is warm and professional.
My order? appetizers- bacon wrapped scallops and grilled shrimp were perfectly executed. The mocktail menu was diverse and I went with the interesting sounding antioxidant. It was delicious and I didn’t feel guilty about sugar or empty calories.
I ordered the Flank steak - it was sliced beautifully and moist and tender served over yummy garlic mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. My mum ordered the chicken breast sandwich which was served with a house salad.
my mum was very impressed with the decor - even the washrooms have beautifully chosen wallpaper.
To top it off I had the signature cardamom creme brûlée - it was smooth, light and had a perfect hint of cardamom.
They have ample parking, close to Islamic foundation and close to the highway - it took me only 2 mins to get their from the highway.
One note would be to have a little background music to make the place feel a little casual and relaxed. Posted on April 10, 2015 |

★★★★☆ I was invited by my colleagues to check this place out and judging by all the positive reviews and the strong Facebook following and the packed dining halls... I can tell there is something to discover in this place...
Let me start off by saying that I was very excited about this place opening since the winter. I really think our community is ready for a place of this caliber. Everything is done at a much higher level and its about time to have this kind of bistro... simple but elegant!

I somehow liked the chcken wings -- BY FAR the BEST wings I have ever had. The brazilian sauce was awesome ($12) typical price for wings.
We actually ordered the most famous Black Ox steak.... I ordered the filet mignon and I had it medium rare - the best way to have it. It was really a blast to taste the tender juicy meat! ★★★★☆ We went with a large party to Black Ox Bistro a few weeks ago for an anniversary party and it was a memorable experience!
I should say that the service was friendly, always smiling, very polite and extremely knowledgeable about the product. The had a lot of servers so I never had to wait long to get someone's attention and they kept coming to check in on us to see if everything was OK.
All of our food came really fast so far... It didn't take awhile when our drinks and appetizers arrived first and about 20 minutes for my main course. All the food arrived at the same time, the plates and food itself was all warm when it arrived.
Everyone in the party had a blast! Thanks Black Ox Bistro for the awesome service and food!!! :) Posted on March 24, 2015 |

★★☆☆☆ I'm only giving this place a 2 star because of the waitress who was super nice to us. As far as food is concerned, I would give it a zero. We ordered chicken wings which was pretty much wings with Tabasco sauce. Chicken was so overcooked, tasteless and their sauce was disgusting. Hubby ordered steak which was also overcooked and flavourless. I only wish I'd believed all the reviews on yelp and not wasted $80. Posted on March 1, 2015 |
