A NOTE ABOUT THE HALAL STATUS OF GREEN STREET SMOKED MEATS
| |
|
This restaurant is listed as sourcing some/all of its meat from a known supplier of Halal meat. This means that the management or employees of this restaurant may not be aware of their own halal status if asked. However, they may be able to confirm their meat supplier is Creekstone Farms, in which case you can proceed if you feel comfortable eating there. Feel free to click on the name of the supplier and/or certifier listed in the Halal summary to learn more about their Halal procedures. Even if you do decide to eat here, we recommend you politely ask that they clean their grill and ensure no contact with non-Halal meat or alcohol. |

NR Sad but they switched their supplier. Nothing here is halal anymore
------------------------------
This is not a muslim owned or operated restaurant, as pork and alcohol are a major portion of what they serve. However the manager was very enthusiastic about catering to Muslims on his own initiative and the brisket was amazing. When I got in line to order, I simply asked if the brisket was from Creekstone. He gave me an emphatic yes, and asked me a little about what halal means. He then ordered the person preparing our food to use a separate cutting board and knife for us, and did this without me saying anything which I really appreciated. So let them know you are eating halal and they will go out of their way to be accommodative. Let me emphasize the brisket was delicious, full of flavor and melt-in-your-mouth tender. Muslims only have access to high quality food preparation like this in a few places in Chicago, and it is great to get traditional american bbq as a halal option. Posted on October 3, 2022 |

★☆☆☆☆ This establishment doesn't use meat from Creekstone Farms anymore. They get their meat from Demkota Farms.
I have read that Demkota also provides Halal and Kosher meat products but you should do your own DD.
Most importantly, the restaurant confirmed that they smoke the beef and the pork in the same smoker, so there is cross contamination between them. Posted on August 5, 2021 |

NR This place should be avoided because the beef, while Halal from Creekstone Farms, is cooked on shared grates in their smokers with pork. In fact, they use a rotisserie smoker, guaranteeing juices from pork shoulder, ribs, and sausages will drip onto the brisket. ★★★★★ I have been to this place 3 times. There brisket and ribs are from Creekstone. They always use a separate cutting board and knife and also change there gloves everytime as soon i inquire about meat for the day. The meat was delicious, with smoke rings around and melt-in-your-mouth tender. Also the sides of elote style corn is to die for. This is the real taste of american smoke meat, we muslims can have. ★★★★☆ Had the brisket sandwich, it was very good. This place is very unique in that it's an authentic and well respected BBQ place where one of their key items is halal, so for that reason I'd definitely recommend trying it once. Nice seating too! Posted on August 25, 2015 |
