Nando's was reported closed or not Halal 9 years ago Nando's Flame-Grilled PERi-PERi Chicken tantalizes tastebuds all over Canada. But even as we grow, our aim is not to be another chain of restaurants. We want each Nando's restaurant to be individual reflecting the local characteristics of each area. Visit some of our restaurants and you will see that although they serve the same great chicken, each one has something unique. This includes many restaurants that serve halal chicken. We are known for our PERi-PERi chicken, which has a truly unique taste. Fresh, never frozen, A-grade chickens are butterfly-cut and immediately marinated in the top-secret Nando's marinade for a full 24 hours to ensure that the flavour penetrates right through the meat. The chicken is flame-grilled right in front of you and basted thoroughly in your choice of sauce: Lemon & Herb for the not so brave, Medium PERi-PERi for the slightly more adventurous and Hot or Extra Hot PERi-PERi for the real daredevils. Flame-grilling the chicken means that half the fat of the chicken literally disappears in the process, and the result - the finest tasting chicken in the world. The staff of this restaurant has verbally confirmed halal status. Not all Nando's outlets offer halal chicken, but the outlets listed here have been known to do so. Please check with the individual outlet first. From the management: 'All our restaurants in Ontario serve halal chicken.'

★★★☆☆ Food was ok but long wait and a bit on the expensive side Posted on November 3, 2012 |
|
|
★☆☆☆☆ Machine cut meat. Please confirm before ordering. Posted on October 11, 2012 |
|
|
★☆☆☆☆ We have been to this location a few times and have yet to get good service. The waitresses are so snobby and stuck up . One time we went and there were no plates or cutlery left and every table was dirty. They gave us paper plates and plastic cutlery...and then they announced they have no buns! I do not go to this location anymore but now go to the Bovaird/Hurontario location. Nice service and very clean! Posted on November 28, 2011 |

★☆☆☆☆ They serve Maple Lodge Chicken.
Maple Lodge is no Zabiha (Hand slaughtered) Posted on September 22, 2011 |

★★★☆☆ We went here and their chicken is certainly not bad. The spicy chicken is actually quite tasty, but there is no variety. Everything on the menu tastes the same with some minor variations.
It is very expensive when one considers the quality of food involved here. Overall it's not too bad, but I would much rather go to some of the many other great halal restaurants in the area. Posted on July 31, 2011 |

★★★★★ excellent service but definately very expensive but i dont get one thing are they halal or not because one day they saying its halal they get there meat from medina but someone told me no they get there meat from Maple lodge please confirm whats going on but food is good Posted on July 14, 2011 |

NR I am no scholar however, you may want to read the following article and decide for yourself if Maple Lodge is Halal or not. I think it is quite clear from this article that Maple Lodge is not Halal. Posted on March 11, 2011 |

★★★★☆ I have eaten at this location over 5 times now and even placed some orders for take out. I found it to be a healthy alternative to KFC and Popeyes.
Food is delicious but a bit pricey. I would highly recommend the chicken breast sandwich with a Mediterranean salad with peri peri fries! Posted on March 3, 2011 |

|
★★★★☆ The food is great here, but i dont like that they took off the halal sign Posted on January 27, 2011 |

★★★★★ One of the original Nando's in the GTA. Bringing halal delicious Peri Peri to Canada. The chicken is ISNA certified Maple Lodge chicken which is machine cut. Posted on December 22, 2010 |

★★★★★ Great place for grilled chicken... They do have different flavors ranging from lemon and herb all the way to "hot if you dare" so choose wisely. Their peri peri sauce/marinate is world famous!! I've been here a couple of times and I'm always satisfied with the food and service. Also they have STOPPED serving alcohol at this location as well. Posted on October 26, 2010 |

★★★☆☆ I was there yesterday food was different I think they have changed some ingredients spice level was also very low????? not same as before. Posted on July 14, 2010 |

★☆☆☆☆ Used to eat regularly-thnx to friends who informed that meat from maple lodge-no more nandos. How could alcohol serving restaurants claim to serve muslims with Halal ????
Halal+taiyib(pure) is what is required Posted on April 17, 2010 |

★★★★☆ The taste has changed since my last visit a year ago. Wonder if they went from halal to non halal meat? Posted on February 19, 2010 |

NR I just have to comment on phrase 100% Halal. Either it is Halal or Not Halal but there is no percentage. Further, Nando's locations use only Maple Lodge chicken which the Maple Lodge has announced on its website to be exclusively Machine cut and not Hand zabiha. They have their own justifications and for people who are strict followers of hand cut zabiha and not the machine cut of Maple Lodge, must inquire before getting lured by the advertisement Posted on February 2, 2009 |

NR October 31, 2006:
I just returned from my second visit to the Brampton NANDOS and can't contain my disappointment. I was intially attracted to the Brampton Nandos because of the good meals I enjoyed at the Illford (UK) and Cape Town Nandos AND the "halal" sign displayed in the front window (It is very difficult to find halal restaurants that are not kebab and curry joints). The chicken was on par with the other Nandos I visited overseas. The "qality" of the food is not in question. On my second visit to this restaurant I noticed the "halal" sign was missing (strange?). I asked the owner about this and he said that he removed the sign on orders of the "head office". The owner stated that serving halal meat was driving away business from the Sikh community. The owner VERBALLY assured me that the meat served in his franchise was halal despite having removed the "halal" sign from his window. He was unable to produce any sort of halal certification (Popeye's restaurants usually have a "halal certificate" from one of the organizations concerned with the regulation of the Halal meat industry). I am not entirely convinced that that this particular Nandos branch serves halal meat. (**Note to "Kanadiankite" - if the owner of this Nandos restaurant wishes to bolster his 'halal' status, he should get certified by a halal organization and post this certification on a wall where people can see. He clearly stated that he had to hide Nando's halal status for fear of the Sikh community. There were not enough Muslims buying Nandos chicken to support his business) Posted on March 30, 2008 |

★★★★★ I would like to take a moment and respond to couple of reviews below. This location DOES NOT serve alcohol. The same menu is printed for all Nandos in Canada but I assure you that the mississauga and brampton nandos don't sell alcohol. Second, the Franchise does not allow to hand halal sign in windows. You can visit any Nando's around the world and you will not see any halal sign hangin in the window. And that is why the owner had to take the sign down. Owners are known muslims and if the owners say it's halal, you really don't need any further clarification. I have never seen or heard of anyone walking in hundred's of Halal Nando's in U.K. which are run by non muslims and asking for Halal authentication. So, that you all know, food is halal and if you dine at this site, you will agree with me that it has the best quality of Peri Peri chicken. Posted on October 16, 2007 |

★★★★★ I love this place! lol, well last time I went there was a while ago, since I recently moved... so I don't know what it's like now, but it was great. The peri peri sauces, the chicken, the bread... it was all amazing... I'm going to Canada this summer to visit some relatives, hope we go to Nando's again. Posted on July 27, 2007 |

★★☆☆☆ This location has added beer and wine to the menu (probably on directions from the corporate office), although the management remains unchanged. Posted on April 9, 2007 |

★★★★★ I have eaten at Nando's in Richmond Hill, a couple of times and always found the grilled chicken exceptional. After having moved to Brampton, we tried the Queen's street location and were not disappointed. We ordered the party pack which costs around $50 (including tax) and comes with two whole chickens (8 breast/thigh pieces), three regular sides and 5 portugese buns. The chicken was just heavenly, with the Peri-Peri spice complementing the grilled flavor. Staff were courteous and friendly and the service was fast. I would unreservedly recommend this place to anybody looking for a break from the usual curry-biryani routine. Posted on August 28, 2006 |
