★★★★☆ Good chicken kabob, as one of the early reviewers said, nothing to write home about. I also tried the chicken soup, which was good and the jerusalem lemonde which was pretty good. Servings are a bit small for a Mediterranean restaurant. Posted on May 20, 2014 |

★★★☆☆ Good roast chicken and kabobs, but nothing to write home about. On the plus side. the family running the place is nice and they have a parking lot. 3.5 out of 5. Posted on March 5, 2012 |

★★★★☆ I needed a quick bite to eat before heading to Oakland Airport. Found this place on my GPS and it was a good choice. I asked them to serve me fast as I was in a hurry and I had my order in less than 10 minutes. Food was tasty, but portions a little small. Cleanliness and decor are bottom side of OK, but definitely would go their again. Posted on September 4, 2011 |

★★★★☆ I was told by several people that service was slow, but food was excellent. We were lucky and both were good. Service was good. FRIENDLY, like going to your mom's house for dinner if you get the wife to wait on you, she is a sweetheart. We ordered MAQLOOBA- rice was sticky but it tasted great anyways. CHICKEN KABOB- juicy and plenty of food. We're going back! Yummi...Zaki! Parking lot too! How great is that! Posted on April 18, 2010 |

★★★★★ The food at Zaki is excellent, and the family who runs the restaurant is extremely friendly. (I have lived in the Middle East and know how authentic Middle Eastern food tastes!) They have also done a great job cleaning up a property with a long history of being a blight on the neighborhood. They have also really improved their service, which was pretty slow when they first opened. As far as the reviewer who has a friend who claims he saw the owner was buying meat from a non-halal source: May I suggest, in the short run, that, rather than hearsay claims that can neither be confirmed nor denied, concerned Muslims simply call the business in question and ask the owner or manager where they buy their zabihah meat, then call the meat supplier to confirm. In the long run, may I suggest that concerned Muslims organize your community to institute a halal certification agency, similar to those for kosher restaurants? Posted on March 16, 2010 |

★★★★★ We ate dinner here last weekend, and the food was really good. The service was excellent. As to the previous review concerning the halal status, how far do we need to go when it comes to trusting fellow Muslims? They have "halal" written on the menu, as well as on some certificates on the wall. Did this witness ask the brother why he was buying all this non-halal meat? Perhaps he has another business, or was buying for someone else. We should not be suspicious of each other, and should be forthright and ask if there is a concern. If I go here again I will ask, and accept their answer. Posted on June 16, 2009 |

★☆☆☆☆ My husband and I were excited about this place when we saw it was opening up practically across the street from us. The restaurant that had previously occupied the property had also been halal, and the owner of this new Zaki Kabob had previously run a halal butcher shop on San Pablo ave. (now under new management). Due to all of this we were confident that Zaki's would be a legit halal place. When we ate there we found that the food was good, although a little over-priced in my opinion.
A few weeks later a good friend of ours told us not to eat there anymore because he did not believe the meat was halal. He told us he saw the owner buying large orders of NON-halal meat at the downtown wholesale provider.
In light of this I am no longer comfortable eating at this place and I think that anyone who wants to go there should really press the owner to show them a receipt or stamp directly on the meat he has in the back to confirm that it actually is zabihah or not. Posted on May 22, 2009 |
