★★☆☆☆ The food was good but it isn't the right place to dine-in, I personally prefer it for a take-out, the place is not clean and it isn't a family friendly place. Posted on October 16, 2011 |

★★★★☆ This is a very nice, INEXPENSIVE, addition to the Halal offerings in Philadelphia, specifically the University City area.
The food is decent and has a home cooked feel to it. Some of the dishes are better prepared than others and overall I'd place the quality of the food about a rung below Saad's. So by this I basically mean that it's on the Kabobeesh level (i.e. 6-7 for taste on a 10 point scale).
However, where it really shines is when it comes to PRICE, QUANTITY, and FRIENDLINESS of the staff.
The entire staff is almost always full of a smile and ever willing to make accommodations. When they are not busy, they will personally bring the food to your table despite it being a sit-down sort of place. Furthermore, I don't think that they'd have any problems doing substitutions and the like.
As far as price and quantity goes, I think that they are the cheapest option in Philly. I mean an entree of chicken, accompanied by LOTS of rice (Basmati cooked with turmeric, no Uncle Ben's), salad, and navy beans cooked with lamb on the side along with a soda cost me just $8! You really cannot beat that price.
Additionally, they have a fairly extensive menu that has both typical middle eastern fare on it (e.g. Shawarma, Falafel, Hummus, Ful, etc.) as well as some Sudanese specialties.
Overall, I'd recommend it for when you are on a budget or when you are REALLY hungry and want to make sure that you'll walk out feeling full. Furthermore, if having friendly and courteous staff serving you is important to you, then give this place a try insha'allah. Posted on September 21, 2011 |
