★★☆☆☆ When i flew From South Africa to London, had a nice Airplane and the food was OK. Service was good. i recently flew from SA to Munich and the flight was delayed so missed my connecting. The food was OK and the worst part was that i had a moulded salad!!i was extremely shocked at the deterioration of SAA Posted on July 11, 2008 |

★★★☆☆ The light snack, which is served on the internal South African flights, leaves much to be desired. The benefit of ordering the Muslim snack over the non-Muslim one is that Cadbury's Dairymilk chocolate is usually served with the Muslim meal snack as opposed to the less appealing and much sweeter, Cadbury P.S. white chocolate bar, which is served with the regular snack. On international flights, the Muslim meals are generally above average when compared to their western counterparts but below average when compared to a Middle East airline. The drinks that are served on South African Airways, and in particular the still and sparkling mineral water from Franschhoek, South Africa bottler La Vie de Luc (see this) and the 100% fruit juices (no sugar added) from Ceres, South Africa are some of the best I have tasted. ★★★☆☆ Halaal meals (referred to as "Moslem meals") qualify as "special meals" have to be at least 72 hours in advance. The food is fairly decent. Breakfast is usually fried egg with tomato, mushrooms and chicken sausage (usually served with bread and a small yoghurt). The lunch and dinner meals are usually a rice or pasta dish. Light snacks would be a vegetarian or chicken sandwich. All meals are certified by the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) in South Africa. Posted on March 30, 2006 |
